    What has the unwanted smell?
It's not that it has an unwanted, or bad, smell. VT Milkshake Base has an unequaled smell. It almost has the smell of a cardboard box that has been soaked in water and been left that way for days.

Once past that, and to my sense of smell, there is a very noticeable malt smell. Overall the smell, to me, is just off putting for doing a SFT of the flavor.

I just did a knuckle taste test and totally get the flavor of malt. It would be insightful to see what others get from the knuckle test.

Each persons sense of taste is unique likewise each persons sense of smell is also unique. Together they go hand-in-hand in creating a persons complete sense of taste. With our sense of smell getting the upper hand. Most people agree on generalities in taste and flavor. The specifics of any given flavor are where we part ways.

"The nose and mouth are connected through the same airway which means that you taste and smell foods at the same time. Their sense of taste can recognize salty, sweet, bitter, sour and savoury (umami), but when you combine this with the sense of smell they can recognize many other individual 'tastes'."

"Our sense of smell in responsible for about 80% of what we taste. Without our sense of smell, our sense of taste is limited to only five distinct sensations: sweet, salty, sour, bitter and the newly discovered “umami” or savory sensation. All other flavours that we experience come from smell."

Although I have sniffed a few flavors I’m not in the habit of doing it. I know personally that a juice can smell fantastic and taste terrible. I would think it would be the same for single flavors.

I’ll try to remember to do a knuckle test.

No I wasn't around for that. Sounds like I missed a fun time with that experience. I love blueberries in real life but cannot vape anything with blueberry. I've tried many blueberry flavors. None tastes anything like they do in real life to me.

I always mixed bilberry with blueberry. Finally just admitted I can’t taste blueberry vapes.

    Want a good Random chuckle?

Moderna stock was $23.76 on March 16, 2020. That was shortly after we knew they would be making an mRNA vaccine for you-know-what.

Today their stock closed at $422.90.

1000 shares bought in March 2020 would see earnings of just under $400,000 today.

    :w00t:

Sadly I didn’t have the foresight to buy Moderna. I did get SiriusXM several years ago at .37 per share if I remember correctly. I think I still have about 180 shares left. I sold some a couple years ago. Wish I had gotten more.

Out of total curiosity I pulled out my NF Malt flavor. It has a very pleasing smell. I just did a knuckle test and it has a sweet and slight nutty flavor.

In real life malt flavor is sweet and nutty. The reason for its sweet, almost dessert like taste, has to do with how malt is made from barley.

The thing that distinguishes a shake from a malt is the malted milk powder. A milkshake is made by blending ice cream, milk, and additional flavoring. A malt is sweeter, has a thicker consistency, and is made with the malted milk powder, milk, ice cream, and additional flavors.

I haven't decided how to proceed with making one or the other yet.

So far I'm thinking... FA Milk (or VTA Milk Fresh), yes; Ice cream, yes. Malt? IDK yet.

I sure would like a decent milkshake base (and possibly a malt base). :)

A recipe I have been tweaking for a while that I think is finally done. I was trying to clone a favorite retail eliquid I use to purchase called Honey Mellow. Honey mellow was a very light banana flavor with hints of graham cracker and honey.

I like it. It's a 4 week steeper and gets better the longer it steeps.

    Honey Mellow
    Banana Puree WF 2.5%
    Biscuit JF 1%
    Butter Pecan FW 1%
    Graham Cracker Clear TFA 3%
    Graham Cracker FW .5%
    Milk and Honey FLV 1.5%
    Sweetener TFA .5%

If you use Super Sweet Cap lower the percentage to .25%. TFA's version is very weak. @chanelvaps do you remember Honey Mellow?

Dang, I don't have Butter Pecan.. Added to the wishlist for a future order. I'm trying not to add to my stash, it's out of control and no I'm not counting it! Ignorance is bliss.

That’s a thought. I have TFA Malted Milk but no idea of how much to use.
ELR's flavor notes have an average mixing quantity of 1.9% in recipes.

One person says: A small amount (0.25-1.5 / 2%) adds a rich, malty texture to a mix. Effective as a thickening/smoothing agent, great for milkshakes! Not creamy. Use with extreme caution as will mute other flavours above 2%.

Another says: 0.25-1.5% is probably going to be an acceptable range for this flavor to add thickness/mouthfeel, though I would definitely start low and work up as preferred. Much above that and it gets rather funky and can easily over-power and mute other flavorings. This flavor is proving to be rather tricky to use and is going to be more of a small % additive as it is rather over-bearing and funky. This concentrate also has a very subjective taste and may not be enjoyable to everyone.

And from Enyawreklaw on diyordievaping.com: Malted Milk is one of TFA's stronger flavorings. What you get up front is malt. Malt being this kind of nutty creamy flavor. That's mainly what I get from this ingredient and not much milk at all.

I would probably start with 0.5% and go from there.

Thanks much. Will use one of my small plastic bottles for a small mix.
