The last few days have been busy. I removed the tree limb that came through the aluminum porch roof, and squirrel-proofed the hole and put a temporary patch over the hole, to keep water out. Have an empty garbage can under the hole, in case my patch has any leaks. Emptied all the furniture & stuff off the porch, and moved it to the garage. Got an estimate today (yikes!) and tomorrow, the insurance guy comes. My normal agent said they should approve it quickly and have the money transferred within 24 hours (fingers crossed). Estimator said prob 6 - 8 weeks from the time I say go, to completion, mostly because of the sloth-like speed of the city permit department.
The whole process has been a giant PITA. It's my first homeowners claim ever, in the almost 40 years in the house. I'm old school, but these days it's all self serve, online, login here upload there. Being a first timer, it's been an anxiety filled, confusing process. My usual agents have been a big help explaining the online process, thank goodness. If there is such a thing as good people, in the insurance business, they fit the bill.
