I posted this in the big kayfun lite thread because the discussion turned to rayon wicking.

This is what I've learned about trying to use CCr. As pretty much everyone has said you need more inside the coil because it shrinks down a bit once fully wetted. But for me at least, on kayfun builds and Fogger V4, that leaves tails that are too bushy for me to work with. I've found that trimming the ends into a V shape, point at end widest part at shoulder by coil, is needed. I've seen others say just trimming across at an angle works for them. This leaves enough wick to place at the channel without so much it ends up clogging the channel. I've done this with both attys, not into channel just filling the space directly above them. Took me a bit to figure out what works for me.

On another note... I think I must have vaped the Kayfun dry and burnt the wick without tasting it. Then refilled and wasn't too far through that tankful when the complete lack of rayon in the coil started to show. I still can't believe how completely it was turned to ash. Yet didn't produce a single hit that tasted burnt. The shoulders of the wick managed to keep the coil moist enough, that's how well this stuff transports liquid.

So, still playing with the Cellucotton, and here's my experience so far:

Vapor production is as good if not better than cotton, so that's a win.

A couple of times, my coil has gunked up way faster than I would have expected given everyone else's experience (10-15ml), but the same would have happened with cotton, I'm sure.

Overall, I'm liking the CC, but I'm still not in love with it. Not like going from silica to cotton, lol, but I see some potential if I can get some of the bugs worked out.

Maybe someone who experiences *no adverse flavor from their CC could send me a small sample to compare and determine if I just happened to pick up a bad batch? :) Or
if interested, I could send a sample of mine to someone willing to brave it, lol. ;)

If the coil Is gunking it's from too much wick ime. This is also a reason for tAsting it. Are you rolling the wick? Did you try like I did in the video ? .... You may have got a bunk batch, it could have been stored poorly. THe bag is not sealed. Take a bit and make a little ball, with a wet mouth put it in, taste it, does it taste bad? ..
I suspect your wick it too tight.

After running CC exclusively for a couple of weeks now, I went back to KGD in my feeder the other night. The thing I like better about KGD is how easy it is to produce wicks of consistent density.

But there's no question that CC wicks better, and produces more vapor and more flavor, so the KGD only lasted one day in there, and I put CC back in last night. :D

I was also dismayed how much gunk there was on my coil after only one day with cotton in it.

Oh, and no matter how 'light' I make the wick, I can taste the rayon for the first few hits, however the same has always been true of cotton, so that isn't really any different. I'm not about to start boiling my wick materials but I am rather tempted to try some of the fancier rayon balls. If anyone would care to re-post the a link where to order them and thereby save me going backwards through this thread, I'd appreciate it.
Wow, trying to keep up with this thread is a real chore[emoji1]

I have the tidi, non sterile balls from Port city medical, through eBay, cost twice as Sally's. I thought it would be smaller box but I was wrong. I also get the cotton taste for a few hits. PM your address and I'll send anybody a sample.

That has been my suspicion as well. I'm trying to figure out how to get the right size - big enough to ensure the coil stays filled, but not so much as to choke liquid and taste wick. Don't think I've hit that yet. I got cotton wicking almost immediately - this may take longer...

And I wouldn't say the rayon tastes bad, but it does leave a starchy-bleachy type bitter aftertaste. Organic cotton does the same, though, so it may just be me. Makes my mouth pucker a little at the back of my tongue and kicks my salivary glands into overdrive. Same thing happens at the dentist, lol...

Ok I am returning for an update on the rayon cloud. Over 3 weeks ago I replaced this cotton cloud with rayon. I fiddled with the cloud the first few days, until getting it just right. Since then I have not touched the coil or the rayon.

Here is what it looks like now, after 23 days of regular every day use.

3x32gnano_3weeks2.jpg

The cloud has finally begun to darken in color, though it is still pretty white when dry. The coil still looks fairly clean, not much gunkier than two weeks ago. But some small flakes are building up in the cloud. Still hisses an spits like a tomcat in a fight. Not even thinking about rewicking at this time.

Gotta love it.

Hey man, question what is the diameter of the coil and at what power/ohms are you running? Mine is at 1/16 diameter and 18+ watts. Couldn't make it work in kayfun until recently with very small amount of rayon and lots of sucking. I will re wick again with a bigger amount because it makes sense more and it should work.

I use 3/32 ID. I stopped using 1/16 a while back because of dry hitting with cotton. Try 3/32 and the CC will keep it fed with zero problems. I also run around 18 to 22 watts.

porkchop_express,

What are you vaping in that thing Vodka? Who is your juice vender I got to get me some of that stuff.

Mine stay clean (except for NETs) but yours looks like it was just built and test fired. Are you sure you didn't slip a decimal point in the 23 day. :D

interesting take. I will try that. Now running a thicker than before piece of rayon in kayfun and it's going well. Not perfect I got 2 painful dry hits in 2 tanks. The V tails might help in wicking. I too have noticed that tails get too big and maybe not allowing the vg to flow correctly. Thanks.

It it as you normally work... but with one major change. Put as much through the coil as you possibly can... to the point you have to give it a slight twist and untwist to move it through the coil. This would be the point that it be too much for cotton, but great for CC. Keep your juice channels clear, but you don't have to be as .... as you are with cotton because this shrinks when it gets wet and won't go into the channel and then clog it as easily. I find it a lot easier to wick a Kayfun and faster with CC because I can turn my OCD off for once.

#1 shove thru the hole
#2 cut to length to touch the deck.
#3 keep it away from the channels slightly
#4 assemble the rest and fill her up.
#5 sit back and enjoy.

If you have OCD like I do.. turn it off. CC is like hundreds of little fire hoses who's job is to transport the liquid from where it got it (it doesn't care where) to the fire. That's what it does and it does it very well.

Also, make sure you have no vacuum leaks in your Kayfun, that would cause issues regardless of the wicking material.
The single twist untwist method worked like a charm. It allowed me to stuff in the rayon without being twisted in the middle which causes problems. I kept on twisting pushing then pulling back. Until it was able to get in untwisted.

I was just going to post the same thing. I kept getting dry hits with my Kayfuns and cc, and I discovered just by chance that if I twisted the cc into a tight roll, I could get it into the coil better with more density. When I let it go, it expanded. I've done this on both my Kayfuns on Provaris twice, and no dry hits for three days. I'm so delighted that I've found the solution to those nasty dry hits.

Man I wish my local sallys had a smaller size box of this stuff instead of the 500ft one...... I want to try out this miracle wick

sig-153231.jpg

Dude it's only 12.00! So what if its too much.

I'm sure you've wasted 12.00 on 30ml of juice you didn't like!

You can order 40ft for 12 shipped from amazon.

Or go the rayon balls route. I recommend those based on better consisantcy. As well as thier a little more pure. You just have to figure out thayas secret to ordering from there as a non business. Through thier cataloge for end users.

Ima just have to bite the bullet on this one, cotton has just never gotten the job done well enough for me. I'm gonna have to buy a box at the end of the week from everything I've read its worth it and more

Porkchop! That's ... incredible! The coil looks essentially 1 day old, wow!!!!

The cloud man the cloud is where it's at. ..

How does the gunking compare to your cotton clouds?

I find the flakes to be harmless. Seems like anything that build up in a dryish stage just gets boiled and popped off.

Jeremy, you must be getting used to your new phone: more typos!

I just had to remark on how I love the way this stuff threads through coils. It keeps its point and doesn't bunch up at the entry point like the other stuff I've used. So easy! (just did a bunch, no cussing)
