That seems awfully premature.
Were you able to pull the wick out easily? If so it was too loose. It looks a little too light. You want it snug in the coil. Go a little thicker and trim the tails short. If you pull both sides of the wick near the chamber it will make it smaller so you can pull more thickness though without pulling the coil. When you get to the point it stops in the coil grab both sides and stretch it and pull the part that stopped all the way to the other side. You should feel and hear the rayon song (squeak) at this point.
When the rayon is too loose the coil loses contact with the wick and the coil will overheat causing gunking.
The wick did pull out fairly easy, it came out easier than it went in anyway.
I too thought it was premature, a learning curve for sure. I actually thought it was to much when I pulled it in because it was pulling the coil.
