i recoiled the nautilus bvc and used rayon as the wicking material, not an easy diy job but not impossible, hardest part is keeping the rayon clear of the air channel through the coil, taste wise similiar to original, maybe a little cleaner, but too early to tell as im still experimenting

Easiest way I've found to keep the airway clear is to leave the drill bit/mandrel/etc in the coil until you're finished with the build, then gently twist the bit out. You may still get a bit in the way of the air hole, but for the most part it stays clear all the way thru.

ETA: Not sure if you know this trick, but here's how I get the heads appart (not me doing the vid):

This works for both BVC and BDC

Swapped my CelluCotton this morning after 115mL ran through it... coil is still running strong though. I now have some TIDI in there... only took me about 1/4 of a ball... including the bits I clipped off.

* Rayon wicking is the best wick for vaping *
I had to re-read first sentence only 10 times, to make sure you didnt vape 115ml of juice since this morning. Lol.

Yeah... I could have said that much better... just realized I also said I 'swapped' the CelluCotton.. which isn't true... I replaced it with TIDI brand Rayon ball fibers... and I sure didn't vape that 115mL this morning :)

I'm really impressed with how far the CelluCotton went... I didn't *have* to remove it, but I figured it was as good a time as any... especially to compare the TIDI in the same coil. I gave the coil a very very gentle cleaning... amazing how clean it ended up. The replacement wick is working well, but I may be slightly off on the density so I may replace it before I get too many mLs through it... I'll give it until morning, but I don't think it's going to get any better.

Yet again I keep being impressed by rayon. When I thought my wick was dry and needed to be rejuiced, I remembered this thread and kept vaping away. It looked bone dry from the outside but kept on giving me good, non-dry hits. I finally rejuiced with another flavor and within 2 draws the old flavor was gone.

I gave some to my coworker/vaping buddy of mine and he loves it as well. We are going to get the 3lb box once we finish my 25 foot roll.

25 feet is a lot itll be a while..

If you vaped it and were seeing the wick drying like that before you got a dryish hit you know you have it right.. Or plenty close enough.

Sounds like you really drained the wick and have a good build!

Just don't push it past a dryish hit.. If you get a dry hit what happens differently with rayon is that the rayon doesn't burn; but the coil starts to overheat and burns the juice to it causing a burnt coil taste.

Yeah jumping between different rayons can be challenging.. Each has a slightly different feel and the fibers are different sizes or have a different crimp in them. Different amounts of fluffiness to me.

To me Sally's seems to take the most, then balls, and the least pharmaceutical/ bottle.
---------
Coil cleanliness -
100+ ml run through a properly wicked rayon coil and there is no gunk. Rinse under water and try to dry burn it nothing happens the coil just glows. Nothing to burn off!

Sorry for the picture spamming, but this is how dry I'm able to get it while still retaining flavor and vapor. I could still probably get a few more vapes out of it but I don't want to push it and burn the coil (I happen to like this one!):

Looks good how many tries did it take you to get a good first wick?

4 ?

This was my second wick (first was not enough and left space between wick and coil). Maybe I just got lucky?

Anyways, I'm absolutely loving this stuff. Kind of kicking myself for sticking with cotton for so long. I just got a large order of juices in and I've been chain vaping flavor after flavor and not getting any weird mix of tastes. Also, I'm finding that since it wicks faster than cotton, I need to open up the airflow more. Flavor and vapor production are amazing, and the fact that I can keep changing flavors on a whim is just amazing.

Contact coils are Sooo 2014 :)

Especially with the introduction of the DNA40 boards. I initially tried contact coils in my first couple of nickel builds. Terrible, terrible performance. For me anyway.

I wick my drippers with rayon. I have about 7 different juices that I vape consecutively. I'll fill my RDA up with one flavor. Vape that until it's about done, refill with another flavor and bam! First or second hit and I am tasting the new flavor. It's rather amazing to me.

I have read where people will change out their wick so that they can change flavors. I couldn't imagine doing that for each flavor change. Totally unnecessary if using rayon.

Too much rayon in your coil can give a nutty taste at first that usually goes away after a little while. Try just a little less and see if that improves it. You can try pulling just a few strands out of your current coil. It will also wick better if it's not packed too tight since that can choke off the coil. Just make sure you don't go too light since that will cause the rayon to lose contact with the coil which results in burning of the coil. It's a delicate balance sometimes.

I've been using Delasco balls since they were first discovered on this thread. I've never noticed any taste from them, even from the first vape.

You were the first to try them. :)

Hmm. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Could it be that I have too much in the coil? Or, it's not saturated enough?

If your tasting rayon you have too much. Delascos and other balls take a slightly lower density in the coil due to the fiber be a slightly different amount of fluffiness... Read some of my posts from yesterday we were talking about this..

I've had luck separating some and pulling it back out of the coil till the taste goes away.

Happy vaping

World Wide Notice :

Public Service Announcement

If you have an off taste your density is wrong.

Too much you taste the woody/nutty flavor of the rayon

Too little you taste the burnt flavor of the coil dry burning.

If you actually some how manage to burn rayon it will taste like paper... impossible to do once juice touches it.

When correct, rayon imparts no flavor into your vape. :)

I knew I was the first to try them, I just didn't want to brag.

I'm surprised you remembered that.

And I guess that makes me the newest (in this thread) as I just received mine today! YAY... another Rayon to try out. I only bought 1K balls... hopefully that will be enough ;)

Thanks to the pioneers of using Rayon wicking for vaping!

If you decide to split them up and sell some to recoup your money I'd be interested in some, or I'll trade you for some Sally's :D Just kidding, I'd gladly pay you for some, I'd like to try them and compare to the Sally's I have. I'd order a box but I really don't want another life time supply of rayon that I don't know what to do with.
