We really don't know for sure what kind of metal our $30 Chinese tanks are made from, so slower is always advisable.
Yea we do.

I didn't mean to imply the topic was getting old just that what a craftsman can do with a cobalt bit is not the same as what a doofous can do with the same tools.
BUT - I'd be almost willing to bet I can hold a hand drill as stable as a $50 Drill Press.Ok maybe not but darn close.
What we really need is a "Custom vape shop" you know you sketch something on a napkin and you send it off and it comes back properly machined. Come to think of it I saw a guy post a picture of a Squape he re-engineered and it looked really good... for the life of me I can't remember his name but I think his Avatar was some kind of four legged critter. Ah - it's OK it will come to me.![]()
That's my method 99% of the time, unless I'm programming a CNC
Use caution when consulting speed/feed charts: they're for perfect conditions, and that's rarely the case. We really don't know for sure what kind of metal our $30 Chinese tanks are made from, so slower is always advisable.
I heard on Vapor Joe TV these guys will make anything you can think of for you Custom Mod Creation
Yeah, but you guys do this all day and speak the same language.
AMD, you're destroying the myth! I pictured you with a machine shop full of venerable tools, not a Central Machinery one.
Sorry. Error.

If someone wants current information on rayon. Here is a comprehensive overview.
Viscose rayon - the oldest man made fiber - versatile fiber yarn
I found this supplier for loose rayon; but not in small quanitities.
Man-Made Fibers - Mielke's Fiber Arts
they also have ramie and a number of others for your experimentation.. I'll be testing ramie soon to compare. if your going to order something, at this point I would recommend ordering ramie if you want this Type Of performance from a wick. That tencel top looks good though. It's supposed to be lyocell a better type of rayon made with a nontoxic process. This article/ad outlines some problems with traditional rayon and how the lyocell is cleaner.

I had researched this before with out finding much, but just came across this mention that the smoke may Be a little hazardous. Typically though you do not burn the rayon because you keep it wet... Burn test description - Fabric Identification By Reaction of Fiber By Burn Test
This statement would make one want to get ramie as it is a natural degummed fiber, and from what I hear it provides very similar performance to the rayon. Looking forward to checking it out. Because it would be a safer alternative.
And here I sat in the garage thinking its normal using a cheap battery B&D hand drill, cheap Ryobi drill bits, and a little bottle of Remington gun oil, to drill out an EHPro KFL+ center post to 1/16" then 5/64", holding the post with a pair of needle nose, with the post wrapped in a latex glove to stop it from slipping and marring up the finish.
Bah, lathes and drill presses, pssh.
Jeremy,
Great thread, after reading for a couple hours...I bought ten pounds---![]()
What you describe is often too little rayon inside the coil. If you think that's the problem you can easily add a little rayon to the coil w/o rewicking. I use a doubled-over piece of Kanthal (I use 32 g) bent sharply, then inserted through the coil on the outside of the rayon. Insert the bent end through coil leaving the two 'loose' ends for pulling the wire back out of the coil. Think of it as a big needle threader. When this is done correctly you will see the wire against the inside of your coil. Then insert a small piece of rayon through the doubled-over end and then carefully pull the rayon back through the coil. Trim the added piece flush with the ends of the coil, then try it.Can someone post pictures of -- or offer advice/directions -- on how to wick a Lemo Drop? It's my first RTA and I can't seem to get the wicking right. I've been using rayon in RDAs for the past few months with much success, but on the Lemo it's like it's not wicking fast enough. If I take short pulls it's *ok*, but anything longer and it starts to taste like it's burning something.
Any help is appreciated.
After my box of rayon (Graham) arrived from Sally yesterday, I cant imagine what ten pounds would look like (small country is right) ...I thought there was a mistake at first when I saw the size, lolPlease Tell me you didn't.. Unless your buying for a small country.
Welcome, I'm guessing you made it past post 300 when we found the cellucotton and others are great and cheaply readily available.
Cheers!
go about its use methodically and check your work and you will be rewarded greatly.
Rayon wick.. The wick that just keeps giving.
Oh it may help you to fast forward through the thread up to post 1200 if you look at my series of blogs.

For anyone else unsure I'd how much you might need, I put a SX Mini + SqR on the box for reference...I don't think I'll ever need wicking material for the rest of my life...and I thought my 80 pads of KGD was a lot
Thats a good idea maybe I'll wrap all the tmods up with rayon when I send them out!
