Wow. I just saw this! This must be great with ni200.

I wonder if I can make the same on my erlprinz... What did you use to make those cuts? Any tips?

Sent from my keyboard through my phone or something like that.
I had just used a small fine triangle file, but the needle files that SlickWilly mentioned would do a good job as well. I am going to pick up a small round file to smooth off the edges of the grooves.

I just place one pointed edge of the triangle file on an angle across the post as seen in the picture, used my thumb as a guide for the file and cut by pulling the file towards me. Repeat this process a few times till the groove starts to deepen. Then you can cut both ways without the file slipping.

I have no experience with Nichrome wire and understand it is quite soft. So rounding out the groove edges might be a good idea.
It's easier to cut a groove with the sharp edge of a file and then clean it up with the round one.

I was going to use the Dremel but I had visions of that going horribly wrong.

Troll, the first thing that came to my mind was a Dremel.......:)

Ni200 is way softer than nichrome. In my personal case, it's not even softness as I'm using hardened ni200. The problem is that it's rather springy so unless I double wrap it around the screw, tension it with a pair of pliers and then tight down the screw hard with an oversized jis driver, the wire tends to want to wander off.

I even considered annealing just the legs to make them stick to the screws :/

All present tp boards require nickel coils for temperature protection to work.

The difference (I wouldn't call it advantage) is that nickel has a predictive resistance curve along a given temperature rise. That's how these boards are able to calculate the current temperature. Kanthal barely changes its resistance no matter how hot or cold it is so present technology can't predict the temperature based on the resistance differential.

I hear that, I've had to turn the temp down on the VS to stop getting dry hits when I first started rebuilding using kanthal and cotton....thank God I found this thread.

Well when you do, I only have one advice: stay away from regular ni200 and don't go under 29/30g.

Stealthvape in UK has hardened ni200 which is great to work with except when tightening down the legs under the screws (which is a PITA).

Annealed ni200 however will snap easily under the screws so choose your poison.

I rather fight with the legs but not the coil then fighting with both.

But you can easily buy the clones which work as good or better. At least that's what I read on other threads. I think those boards (kxd for ex) go for 20 bucks

I don't think I'll bother dipping into the TC pool yet but thanks for the info!
