Another update.

Been slowly changing all my toppers out to Rayon, I'm over half way there now

"Rayoned" another Russian, this time with a Dragon Nano coil, superb results.

kayfun Nano, got the same treatment, but just with a basic horizontal micro coil.

Finally had a try at the Kraken. I've been running this on SS rope with just a single coil so far and I've been really happy with the results. But decided to try a dual coil this time. Two micros wicked with Rayon, coming out at 1.3 ohms. It's that good, I was actually getting a bit nic dizzy. So I've put the Kraken down for a while

This wick seems to work flawlessly in Kayfuns, Gennies and even my Ithaka

What is it that you really want to see dear?

If the right density isn't used it doesn't work the same. Too much rayon it will gunk up the coil and/or you may taste it. not enough the coil will start to dry hit. Too much you'll gunk in a few days the right amount you have the beautiful coils pictured here after two weeks. I'm over 80 mls vg on mine and still looks excellent.

This was from the beginning of the thread. Wick from my vertical oddy - rinsed to see the wick.

That was the best producer of the three rayon wicks I tried. Im not knocking rayon, I think its very good, just not sure how it will hold up to a NET with a good bit of particulate. Is that wick you show after using a NET?
Give me a few days and I will post pics of rayon and cotton rinsed and unrinsed.

Oh to clarify I bought 2 types of wool claiming to be 100% rayon but on delivery both were 100% cotton wool.

I pretty much had the same problem,although my fault.I went to sally's and assumed when the box said graham cellucotton,that it was rayon.That's what i get for assuming,it turned out to be cotton.I went back,and they don't even carry the rayon at the store by me,just the cotton,so guess i will have to order some and wait.

Cool,thanks for the link.I had just looked on ebay a few minutes ago,and for some reason that one didn't come up,it's a bit better deal than the ones i did find,plus they are only 1 state away so it should arrive faster.That 12' should hold me over for a year or so haha,so plenty of time to get a box ordered.

Why did I wait all week to wick this Russian 91% with CC ?!?!?
Rebuilt using my standard 28ga 1.5 Ohm micro-coil, same mod, same settings, thereby eliminating all variables but the wick.

Observations

• Unbelievably good clean taste
• Incredible vapor production
• Wicks e-liquid very very well
• Had to adjust my airflow - which is saying a lot with Boba's Bounty and this Russian already dialed in
• Zero taste on the first draw, none since
• No irritation whatsoever
• Definitely a better nic hit

Continued testing in progress because I cannot set this thing down
Will post follow on observations.

You really like the vertical coils. Are they better than horizontal or easier or its just you like vertical coils? Better would be things like more taste, vapor, etc. Easier would be building, attaching to posts, wicking etc.

Bingo, two of my Kayfun clones had the same problem and I had to open up the channels and I haven't figured out how to open the air holes without a drill press. Opening the channels was hard enough with a Dremel and several bur tip mill bit. Whatever kind of Stainless they use it is hard as He11. Opening the channels solved my wicking problems with cotton and rayon.

I'm familiar with this frustration. I'm new to fiddling with drilling / milling, and I tried drilling out the center pin with a cobalt 5/64th's drill bit with my dremel. It only went down about 4 mm's into the pin and after 1 hour more of drilling with no progress left me with a black burnt pin and a black tipped bit. I couldn't understand why I couldn't cut into it anymore! (And I still don't btw.)

I stopped being lazy, grabbed an electric drill that's older than me, (probably from the mid 80's) placed my bit in and BAM. My bit drilled through the pin in a minute, and same with the base. I can't believe I used to try to drill stuff out with my dremel. The amount of hours I spent trying to do so was ridiculous.

Here's a vid that helped me look past my stubborn self and borrow my dad's drill. Drilling out Kayfun base + Center Pin.

Edit, he talks about breaking bits while boring out the KFL base compared to 3.1. I had no trouble with my cobalt bit. It went through so fast I slightly hit the inside wall opposite to the hole.

I have been using cotton in my Klite, and have a little ocd thing of rinsing out my old wick to check out the condition of the cotton.

Naw, wasn't a you're a foreigner thing at all. Just explaining my rather arbitrary distinction between better and easier. I could easily see someone say xxx is better because its so simple to change wicks or its easier to use because I get more vapor.

And that is because every different metal requires a different speed of drilling. Of course, the smaller holes could be drilled at higher speed. Stainless Steel is not hard at all, but it is very tuff. Therefore you need good quality sharp bits and slower speed drilling. Your Dremel was too fast for the job and your dad's slower drill from the 80s was just right. In this situation too slow drilling is better then too fast.

I enlarged the juice channels in my ToBeCo 28.5 mm Kayfun Lite Plus as well. Because I was getting not enough wicking issue. I took three shots at it. And my final try was successful. Only I used a different way of doing it: I made a steel nut 4mm tall, threaded to M12-0.75. The same threads of the chimney. Screw that nut onto where the chimney goes flush with the deck. And drilled right into the vertical channels with 2 mm drill bit. That way the drill bit will cut one half of the metal of the nut and the other half of the juice channel. The channel comes out perfectly strait (cylindrically shaped) and exactly the same size on both ends. See for yourself:

Edit: Ah yes, use a little lubricant/coolant when drilling SS. Your own saliva works well.

I tried using the dremel as a drill and had the same experience as you burnt bit and it took about 15 minutes to drill about 2 mm. I finally remembered that I had a drill motor packed away some where and that made all the difference.

I didn't give the KFL a go because I broke off three dill bits on my RSST trying to open up the air hole in the cap and I had brand new sharp bits. I figured if I broke one off in the KFL air hole I would never be able to get it out.

I don't know for sure if SS is hard, soft, or just a PITA but it sure gave me a bad time. By the way the channels didn't come out as nice as AMDtrucking but they function much better than the factory slots.
