Going away in 6-10 drags is fine.. At least you know there is enough in there... Only downside is you won't reach 100ml with it. A tighter density than needed will lead to premature slight gunking... But hey if you get 50ml that's still great right.

Does having more vs less or the just the right amount mute flavor?

In my experience, coil set up and the way you wick it is what will mute the flavor or give you best flavor.

Every RDA, RTA, etc are different, thus each one has to be coiled and wicked in a specific way to get the best flavor. At the end of the day so some extant, flavor is subjective.

Its not 2+2=4. Its not that simple. There is a wider range of combinations of coils and wicks that you have to experiment with to find a perfect balance that YOU like. I Love sub-ohm spaced coils. Another person likes coils that are 1-2ohms on same RDA/RTA. You have to find what you like on your own. Thats the beauty of vaping; no one is right and no one is wrong when it comes to taste/flavor.

But, Rayon has to be wicked in a specific way to get the most out of it; its not more or less, it has to be just right -/+10%.

I'm confused about the latest posts :) I'm using Sally's Rayon. If I want to try better Rayon, what shall I get?

This one

TIDI Cotton and Rayon Balls - MedSupplier.com

or

Delasco - Rayon Balls ?

Or the Bright Viscose stuff?

I buy my Rayon on eBay. Manufacturer is GRAHAM PROFESSIONAL and I always search for "CelluCotton Rayon". You have to make sure that the box says, "100% Rayon" as they also make a "100% Cotton" variety. If the box number is 44060 or 44043, you should be good. I end up spending about $5 for 25 feet, and it lasts for a while.

Here's one link as an example:

100 Rayon 44060 Cellucotton Best Wick for RDA RTA Vape Lot 5 10 15 25 50 Feet | eBay

Wow cjpeltz... that's one heck of a markup from clep7329 on ebay! 3# bulk is $83... versus <$15 (+s/h) online at Sally's. I can see someone wanting to only buy up to 25 ft for $5... but wow, once you reach the 100ft price, may as well buy a big box directly from Sally's Beauty Supply. I only show $22.41 including tax and UPS shipping.

That's where I bought my sample from, since they were close by Illinois I figured it would arrive quickly. I didn't want to invest in the 3 lbs box until I had tried it. ;)

yeah, it's best for small lengths IMHO, and at small lengths I think it lets people get an inexpensive intro to Rayon... but the bulk options are 4x retail. I also noticed that their organic cotton balls and Rayon are both advertised as 'best wick'... so, I guess there was a tie for 'best' ;) Seriously though, I get it... keywords in the titles... gouge the consumers as much as you can. That's fine, but I have added this seller to my naughty list... I wont do business with them, and I'll make sure to alert others as/when/if I see fit. Obviously, you and everyone else can make their own choices of who to buy from...that's your choice and not my concern :)

Fact- too much density causes muted flavor.

Too little causes a burnt tasten

What amount causes you to taste the rayon for the first few hits? I've been using rayon for a while thanks to this thread and just recently started running into wicking issues. I'll do a new build or have one already and the taste and performance is incredible, then I notice discoloration so I reckon I have to rewick it or my coil gets gunked up, so I dry burn and rewick and I soak the wick and try to wait a couple minutes and then boom faceful of weird rayon-y taste usually I try to power thru it for an hour or two and the flavors okay but that first wick experience is always fleeting.

And lately I've started making single twisted micro's in my holmes and magma and I've been trying to add less and less wick to the point my wicks are so loose trying to adjust one side freely moves the other side as well, maybe I need to try getting the wicks thicker? Or maybe I'm just in a bad wicking rut

I think this depends on the individual, and perhaps some other factors like coil geometry, air flow, and the exact source/type of rayon. I find if I don't get some "rayon taste" from the first few hits, I probably won't be happy with that wick for very long. That said, one of the reasons I switched from GCC to Tidi balls is that I get far less of it from the latter.
