Were there any notable difference on failure rate between chrome and black button?
My Cutlass 5.1 is chrome button and it never gave me any problem, where as my Destroyer is black button and it used to act up once a while although it's been working flawlessly last couple months. I was wondering if the black coating inside the button has something to with it. My friend's Cutlass 5.1 has black button also, and he said he used to get occassional mis-fires for first while but then it all went away and works perfectly now.

You're on the right track in your thinking. The Stainless steel (SS) switch failure is about 2:1 over the Black and Chrome, and the Black and Chrome are about even for failures. I have stopped ordering and stopped using the SS switch and have just kept a couple on hand for repairs/replacements for people who insist on SS instead of the Chrome switch.

I wish I could find a push button and catch cup combination in a nice Brass finish. I think brass as hardware would look so totally outstanding in appearance. Ah well, haven't found any yet ...

I've owned my pair of Cutlass for about
9 months now and the zebra with chrome button in heavy rotation has not failed neither has my bloodwood with black button which is in light use. However, my zebra dread, and teak burl Destroyer, both with ss button has misfired and been replaced. Since then it has been flawless. I just chalked it up as luck of the draw. I've been using my yellowheart Destroyer a lot and has performed perfectly this far. It too has ss hardware. Since you archived all mods by production number, and have ordered parts correspondingly, then it could as well have been a bad lot. It does happen.

Ahoy! Time fer a short ecf break. Am busy making front and back panels tonight. Kinda bummed as I was making a wench II and realized I didn't have the correct panels for it so had to jump on E-pay, find a pretty set and order them. Gonna delay delivery I'm afraid .. ah well.

Would a mechanical button work to activate the vv chip? How would you map the wiring?

I usually use the push button between the positive input (battery) and the rest of the circuit, whatever it may be. The kill switch is immediately after the push button so it will kill the hot to the circuit when off.

Hi Cappy! any where I/we can see a pic of a "wench II" & the other new vessels you're working on for us? just curious about the appearance/configuration of them....

Hmm, well, not much to show atm, the boxes are cut to size but square blocks of wood, the panels are somewhat shaped but need the tails cut off.... I suppose I could take a pic of the parts box and you can see what I'm up to :D

Well, here are the parts for batch 14. Lots to do yet. I have to finish cutting the panels, then make panel channels in the back of the boxes and glue in the back panels. Next I will start working on the insides of the boxes, that will take a couple more days right there ... the prettier I make 'em, the longer they take. Arrr
