Ahoy all! Hope the weekend treated ye all just fine.

I've spent a lot of the past week with family. The Commodore came home from the hospital after a couple days and the next day had to go back again. In and out but now she is home again now and the whole clan has been here this week wishing her well and visiting. We've had the oldest son staying with us for a week now too so I'm afraid that RSM has taken a back seat to the week long family gathering.

Back to work tomorrow. The only thing I've done is made a couple desk caddies that were ordered (only 2 orders this last 9 days, bummer), and a repair that is almost done and ready to go home.

As for the 26650 mod, it's going to be 2 1/2 inches wide, 1.3" deep and about 4.8" inches tall if memory serves. It's a monster to be sure! I'm planning on making 3 of them to see how it goes.

Have a good one, be safe, stay healthy! arrrrr

Ahoy! Arrr, was hoping you would hear about the house soon waho, I'll cross me fingers fer ye.

No, no plans concerning the DNA30 at this time, never know about the future though. I tend to go in the direction of popular demand as time goes on....but I don't jump on everything new right away.

It can pump out a whopping 10 amps, thats enough to run my bandsaw. I would have to step down to 22 guage wires, and those are huge wires to try to fit in a mod. Anyone who uses thinner wire is may be asking fer trouble... hmmm

Gonna have 4 mods to post for the website tomorrow, a Dest20 with the smaller hole, a MaranderHD a CruiserHD and a stanard Cruiser.

Also have a repair ready to go home, need to PM the owner tomorrow and ask permission to post some pics of the refurbished Cutlass 5.1

Later all, arrr

To me the real advantage of the DNA30 is the ULR capacity of the board, more than the 30W, it should in theory allow people to "simulate" a mech mod with all the safety of the electronic. I really don't care about the watt increase, but I wonder if being able to vape on a 0.7 ohms coil could increase the autonomy of the battery. Low res means less volts to get to say 20W, right?

Yes a lower resistance coils requires less voltage for a given wattage, but also requires higher amps shortening battery run time.

Interesting that with a .5 ohm coil and 30 watt max you cannot get to 10amps that requires only 7.74 amps. you either need a .3 ohm coil at 30 watts or a .5 ohm coil at 50 watts to pull 10 amps. The Capt'n would have build his wiring to published specs even if we didn't intend to push it, someone would.

Ahoy and Aloha!

Yeah, what FB said, the current draw potential would be very high. I don't think I like the way that might play out and seriously doubt I will follow this particular trend any further than I have already. The current amp limit of the VW mods is 6 amp, except for the HD models which have no regulator and can handle 8 amps.

Have a fine day all, arrr!

The worst thing would be someone uninformed or straight up ignorant using a battery that was incapable of handling that kind of load and having a disaster that way.

Safety features be damned, you have to take initiative for your own safety. I'll admit, I push limits sometimes, but I'm using 30amp capable batteries and metering my coils thoroughly when I do.

There's my GM safety mindedness coming through :D

That seriously is why I like you Cappy. Instead of trying to be the first modder to get the new big thing out and sell as many mods as you can, you think things through and stress test for weeks/months.
Anyway thank you for taking the time to explain some basics there guys, I'm still not so good with amps/watts/ohms and battery autonomy :D

Side note: Congrats to Seb for quitting, I know you'll read this, so well done mate, have a healthy trip :)

Seb quit vaping? Awesome stuff if so!!

Well, although my knowledge base is from schools taken 30 years ago, spending 3 decades in the electronics manufacturing trade taught me one basic fact. Electronics are run by magic smoke. If you let the magic smoke escape then they no long work!

I currently use 24 gauge, 7 strand wire for the non HD models. It can handle the 6 amps the DNA20 can put out. I use 22 guage 7 strand for the HD models as it can handle 8 amps before it smokes.

I would need to find 20 gauge 19 stand, or 18 gauge 7 strand wire to handle 10 amps with a safety margin for possible higher bursts. Not safe, not in my books anyway and I am going to steer clear of it. Not to mention 18 guage wire has almost a 1/10" cross section of just wire, not counting the insulation cover, that's HUGE.

David is posting the latest mods for sale on the website as I type. I also had a request for a custom desk caddy last week. They wanted a large tube mod holder with a combo holder accessories base. I thought It was also a great idea as this base has battery holder holes so I will be offering a third variation of the large tube caddy.

Good times, arrrr
