Not intentional on my part, Brian. Totally unintentional. Just part of my fallibility as another Bozo-on-the-Bus.

I'm always amazed at how human beings (myself included, of course) can be so very smart, aware, and creative, yet in the next second be stupid, thick as a brick, and lost.

:?:I resemble that remark.:oops:

The feed system does not / has not leaked. That said, between inconsistent fit between Attys breath holes, and connectors, plus a wet LR atty and gravity, juice will leak out between the connection in time.........Cleaning up a little juice is not an issue for me. Just sayin, I hate it when it penetrates and stains the wood over time. :(

Lol, as another bozo on the bus, I resemble that remark too. :laugh:

Ok, well, seems to me, that any system used for leak containment would be useless if the unit is laid on its side, it would just leak out. So no use putting on something large when most leaks would never be more than what, 3-5 drops? More? If more than that, you messed up and deserve to be grabbing for the paper towels.
So, hmmmm, I already seal the atty top pretty well, after the first coat of finish, I put in the atty connector and the next few coats I make sure finish gets around the connector to seal it in. If I drilled a well, sand it, then do my usual finish routine, maybe making sure the finish buildup is nice and thick around the atty and indented well, it would not detract overmuch from the appearance and also give the occasional accidental leakage a place to pool until vaped or cleaned up.

I'm just guessing here, but that sounds about right to me. The only time I personally have to deal with leaks is when I'm dripping an 801 and don't pay attention.

It would be a quick fix, else I would have to put everything on hold, scout around and try to find a fix, test a few solutions and come up with an answer to a problem I didn't think I would have to solve in the first place. Yarr.... Being able to visualize a solution is easy, but finding the material, cutting it, shaping it, drilling it, mounting it, testing it all takes time. I would prefer to not have to pause just when things are starting to flow nicely.

Well, think I shall sleep on it.

Thanks for the posts and PM's though, It always helps to get some outside opinions :)

A routed, recessed juice well (rather than a finish washer catch cup) seems spot on to me.

That's a change fono made to the Phidias a couple months back. I read that he's also made some internal improvements to his gravity-based needle feed, but I have no first-hand experience so cannot attest to that. Compared to my 2nd gen Phids (where a long needle pressure inside the 3ml feed bottle's screw-on cap simply goes up through a hole in the atty connector), I'm sure your internally sealed feed design using soldered stainless steel and fitted plastic tubing is superior for minimizing/eliminating leaks inside the box.

KISS rules apply. Simpler is better. Don't want to overtax the master craftsmen.

And yes, nothing prevents leaks 100%. vaping is an inherently messy affair involving sticky fluids and cheap plumbing, rather like the body itself. No way to eliminate the necessity of cleaning. Comes with the territory.

Arrr, ECF ate my post, lets do this AGAIN;

For the people asking, this is the only bottom feeder I have left atm, more Scallywags will be posted in the next couple days;

Mark-III 'Scallywag', 3.7V, 510 atty, 14500 batt, 3ml bottle, sealed juice system, Black Cherry with Koa inlay
Price still $110, free shipping/insurance via Priority Mail

More mods can be found here - Red Sky Mods in the For Sale section.

Thanks for looking

Oh, and JC, I'm slowly making the Mark-IV's, but as this is a pre-production shake-down cruise, I am going slowly, taking careful measurements and trying to solidify the process so future ones can be built much faster and efficiently. I also have to keep up some production of MK-3's as those are currently my bread 'n butter mods. Theyre coming, arrr....

Hey Brian, sorry for the late reply but I just wanted to let you know that I am very happy with the 2 mods that I purchased from you! I love that extra kick from the 5v, what did you do to it to get it to hit that way?

Good soldering, solid connections, sufficiently heavy wire to hand the amps and other secrets that if I told you .....

Glad your liking the mods, more on the way.

I understand but i bet once you have the Mark IV's ready-they will become your bread and butter, only with more butter!

I played with this little unit all day today while working. First of all.. what performance! The mechanics/feed/fit of the bottle, door, squonk window and button placement were perfect. No leaks, only had to stop and replace battery because I put a used one in.

Apologies for the iPhone pics, but you can see the inlay and detail that the craftsman put into it. All the joints are tight - perfect fits. Finish is comfortable in the hand.. satiny. Even the way it was packaged, you could tell this was a craftsman who was proud of his product - double parchment around all pieces, and then bubble-wrapped. The extra bottles and hardware were even enclosed in one of those tulle-ribbon bags that you get at some hotels.

My only "learning curve" comment is a reflection on the end-user: I have chubby fat fingers and when I'd tip it to squonk with my thumb, the door would slide open just a tad. I learned to use the side of my thumb and this solved that speed bump.

All in all.. IMO, and with my limited amount of exposure to other wood mods and their price points, I'd have to say this is quality craftsmanship, value and performance.. and will stay in my collection.

ar <-- (I can't speak pirate, but I'll play one on E.C. ..(F).:p

Very kind of you to notice the little things, I think they are also important. When I see a picture of a mod in someones hands, I get a bit ....hmmm, jealous? I remember working that mod, the problems I had and the time I had it in MY hands, sanding, finishing, chiseling, scraping, cursing ... makes me a bit sad too, wonder how long this will go on? LOL

Heres a pic I posted before, for using your pointer/index finger to 'squonk, you got some big hand my friend!

Do you really think more people want the 18650 than the 14500? I had assumed the smaller battery mod was more popular, but I may be totally wrong! Someone should start a poll or something.

P.S., hey all, please visit Red Sky Mods to see available mods. Sometimes the ones for sale get lost in the thread.

Yarrr....

One last post for the night, and so you all don't think I quit working on mods;

Here are the next 5 Scallywags, #309-313 coming up through the system.

Bloodwood, Rosewood, Padouk, Bubinga, Koa, Black Walnut and Red Maple are represented in this batch.

And here are the test run of 3 18650 bottom feeders. Is Buccaneer a good name for em?

Mahogany, Melokhia, Monkeypod wood, Zebra wood, Black walnut, Yaya (white wenge) is making these guys up. They are preorders if they are found acceptable when complete.

Yarrrr! You hear that me lads? It be a grog callin me name!

Those Mark IV's look a bit too squarey-is that a word? They may look better if rounded out a bit-just my opinion. Also do you have darker woods?

Not the greatest pic, but one of them is black walnut. Those 3 have just had basic part fiitting done. When I finish putting in the final inlays I will sand them, then edge them. Either round, semi-round or angled edge. I'm not sure which yet.
