Ahoy! T'was a good day today! Say, who am I talking to, its 4am?

Dragged my oldest son over and started teaching him how to do basic sanding, then progressed to finishing. Got 8 mods drying and 4 more started.

Tomorrow/today I will also be starting on the prototype for the Mark-IV 'no name' 18650 bottom feeder.

After using the Mark-III bottom feeder continuously for many days now, it has yet to leak anything inside, or outside for that matter.

It looks like the little seal compressed between the bottle snout and bottle cap ensures no leaking when squeezed. The tight fit of the flexible feed tube and the metal of the tube being soldered into the atty also doesn't allow any liquid out. I sorta borrowed much of the design from the feed system of inert gas to the waveguide of radar systems. :) Once I put in that little compression seal and soldered in the feed tube there were no leaks from day one.

So I am NOT gonna drill a well, glue on a ring or whatnot to catch drips that wont happen unless people grossly overfeed the atty.

The mod will look so much better that way.

You all want me to post some pics of the current state of the mods tomorrow? If not I will post some tuesday afternoon when they are ready for sale.

My collection of wood for End caps and Inlays is getting pretty large, I really need to start using the more exotic wood, but I hate wasting it on a prototype gone wrong. I will save most of it for pre-ordering, but I will not be using most of the wood below for the main mod body or I would have to jack up the price and I am already skating the thin line of profit vs man-hours. Note to self, tell the ol' ball 'n chain to STOP ordering wood for a while, enthusiasm is one thing but I got wood comin' outta me .....

So far I have African Teak, Bolivian Rosewood, Bubinga, Kamani, Koa, Macadamia, Asian Marble Wood, Melokhia, Mediterranean Olive, Bloodwood, Caribbean Rosewood, Canary, Cebruva, Cocobolo, Ebony, Guyana Rosewood, Honduras Mahogany, Makore, Mulberry, Padouk, Peruvian Walnut, Purpleheart, Sapele(Penkwa), Sycamore, Sumac, Tangerine (Inlay only), Wenge, Yaya (white Wenge), Zebrawood

Take a look at the website for more info. End caps & Inlay - Red Sky Mods

I have to work on a way to show pictures of all these types of wood on the site. At least maybe links. I will have the youngest son work on that, bout time I drag him into the process somehow and he's studying to be a programmer. He should be able to figure out how to do it!

After the next run is complete and all the processes are down cold, I will start taking pre-orders. People should be able to go on the site, pick the wood for the main body, then pick the end cap wood. I shall post a order e-mail address and I will send a confirmation e-mail with a estimated delivery date. Then send a invoice when it is complete. I'll talk about custom inlays some other time, but each one I do is totally unique and I can do special requests.

It's been hard sailing the last couple months, but seems like things are finally getting ship shape.

Didn't mean to write a book but it's about time I updated the thread.

Arrrrrrr.......

G'mornin you salty dogs, hope today is findin you all well!

The mods are looking AWESOME. Now my only fear is I put a ding or scratch into one when I install the final parts.

Another long day in the ships hold, I'll pop my head out on occasion to check the forums as usual.

Oh, I'm hanging around but don't stop working to chat very often. I want to get those first 4 mods done. As this is the first run I am also having to work out the bugs in the system, verify measurements, finding better ways to do things... all takes time.

I'm pleased so far with the way things are turning out. I was especially worried working with the rosewood and ebony, VERY hard wood to work and prone to splinters and chip-outs. Fortunately there were only a couple very minor chipouts and I don't have to scrap them and start over, Yarrrr!

I have to keep reminding myself this is wood, not plastic, so perfect is near impossible (but I can keep trying).

Arrrrr me hearties, back to work I go..

Avast ye!

Here is a pic just before I put on what should be the last coat of finish. I just lightly burnished them and they are looking fine. I will look at them again tomorrow and if they look ready to go will send out some invoices and ship them wed. I don't want to rush the drying and have them get to you with the finish sticking to the bubble wrap, Arr!

#301 - Laz, #302 - Drot, #303 - AG, #304 - Az

This is a pic of the next 4 coming up from da ships hold, Yar!
