When I was new I liked all the different responses, either it be advanced or simple. When it was advanced I researched it.

I'm new and I'm like you, I love reading even the hard stuff because it helps me learn, but I also need the easy stuff cause after all I truly am clueless....... And then there's, do I need to learn? Probably not, I'll probably be one who is happy just carrying around a lil 650 ego with a clear tank (yes, I now know that's called a clearomizer).... (ok I admit since starting here on the forums my mind it starting to shift a lil, I did just order a lil Itaste VV/VW) but all and all I love both, I enjoying learning.....

I love my hobby! Drives my wife nuts though when I'm rebuilding and what not. She thinks I'm not paying attention to what we're watching etc. Heh.

I love all of my hobbies. My garden pond has gotten a bit overgrown, though, and I can't see the fish. My planted aquarium has a case of the blue algaes. My scanners all need reprogramming. I haven't restrung my Ibanez Artwood in weeks and I really, really need to get that SNPA into bottles tonight.

My wife says I'm undiagnosed ADD/HD.

"Honey, come look at the Provari in what looks like Crimson red. Waddya think?"

I love my ego setup. I still use them daily, even take them to work.

They're not all I have and use, but I'd be lost without the simple set-up.

Now that I've added the Twist to the collection, I have some great portable eGo options. joyetech eGo vv 1000mAh, Joyetech 1100mAh Twist, 4 Joyetech vv 650mAh and a 350mAh. With EVOD heads they all fit comfortably in my carrying case and I can add an iclear 16 or Protank to the rotation with ease. Now that I have the twist, I can also use my carto tanks with the eGo setup also meaning I don't always need the MVP to deliver the volts required.

Since I find the Protank, iclears and evods to all be in the 3.7 to 3.9 volt range for optimum vape, the eGos pretty much deliver all that I need.

What is a Noob anyway? I've been vaping for less than five months and if I'm lucky, my next purchase will be a Poldiac and a Nimbus. I use either my Vamo with a Protank 2 or an Ego twist with an Evod at work and a modded K100 or my Chintinel with one of my RBA/RDA's at home and I would still call myself a Noob. I don't even have the gear I started with and probably in a short amount of time, I will be donating my carto tanks as well. My signature says I've saved about $1200 and with the mondo Poldiac/Nimbus purchase I will have spent roughly half of that on vaping. I guess what I'm getting at is had it not been for this forum and the advice I've been given and read on other's posts I would probably have spent the entire $1200 trying to find what works for me. Over-advising ended up saving me money IMO and made vaping a viable option to quiting smoking.

I agree that there's a lot of technical info that we all share, and it may seem overwhelming, but on the other hand, newb OPs don't always make their first post very informative either; some don't even list their equipment! It goes both ways.

What I do find lacking, is the maintenance/cleaning advice. Few noobs even know it's needed. It seems it only comes up, if asked.

I agree that it's important to read and understand the "noob" question, and to answer it accurately. Adding additional info as seems fit, to help them on the path. Maintenance and cleaning, yes, BigBen's got that right! And that applies to any vape gear.

At the same time, adding in reasonable options seems like a good thing to do. Like many, I started with an ego kit and a CE5 (thankfully a 5 and not a 4!). Saw lots of other types of toppers online shopping, of course, but never thought to try any until reading more on ECF. And while the "what's best" question does get asked a lot, it seems, and can't be answered by anyone but the individual vaper, that seems an appropriate time to delve into other things, mods, toppers, bottom feeders, whatever.

Seems to me that it's often a matter of the responder losing sight of the OP's actual question.

I think often times they may not even know what they bought....they go to their local B&M and the clerk says oh you want a kit and they sell them a generic Chinese ego w/CE4 and usb charger in a case for $50-$60. Now I have seen some great B&M's actually sell them sell some of the better batteries with a T3 or at least a Vivi Nova. They will sell them the extra coils, etc all for at same or less. I have heard them explain different things not in and out the door take your money. I salute those shops.

+1

I started before tanks, bottomfeeders or even cartos. All you had was carts with fillers that needed filling all the time till the filler wore out. Some people came up blue foam filler which lasted longer then some genius invented the ZFM. Most of you have no idea what the heck that is. lol I guess you could call it the first tank. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...supplier-forum/53487-zfm-zero-filler-mod.html

My point isn't to remind you how ancient I am but to say there was no hi-end mod a vet could suggest when I started vaping. If there were I'd have bought one and saved hundreds of dollars chasing that perfect vape. That said everyone needs to travel their own road. :)

Thanks for all the replies.

It was a bit of a rant. But a rant designed to provoke some discussion.

As a newbie I was surprised to learn that I would have to replace my BCC coil after a while. Then staring blankly at the staff at the vape store when they asked me what ohms coil I wanted. This forum helped explain that, and now I happily vape on with my 1.8 ohm coil. They cost me roughly $2 to replace.

After a while I wanted a deeper hit and more flavor, ad these forums led me to dual coil carto tanks. But which brand of replacement cartos? Boge? Smoktek? Ikans? It seems everyone has a definite opinion about which is best. (I like the Boges with the big laser cut hole)
They also cost me around $2 to replace.
Now I read about single coil cartos!!!

I get the point about trying to save money by rebuilding and tinkering, but........

Time = money,
Stress+frustration+wasting rebuilding materials while learning how to = money
Throwing what was previously a perfectly good vaping device at the wall because I broke it trying to improve it = money

I think I am happy with stock products.
I think I am happy with stock replacement parts.
I know I am happy this forum exists.
I know I am happy to have gotten good advise from posters here.
I know I am happy I no longer smoke analogs.
I don't know if, or how much money, I have saved yet, but I know I will in the long run.

Thanks

I don't know about you, but when I can tell something is crap, I quickly climb to the better things. No matter what areas we are talking, be it vaping gear or or anything else. Monetary restraints aside, of course.
These people, that offer this advice to you, don't want to see you waste too much time. That is why it seems they offer upper-level advice from the start.

Enjoy your stay.

I agree with the OP somewhat. It does happen, but IMO not that often. When it does get a bit crazy other people usually pipe in with more sensible comments which is great.

Also, post count or time on the forum are not always good indicators of vape experience, knowledge or lack of those. Reading a post carefully can help but sometimes you just have to ask questions to get a good idea of what the poster actually needs.

As a newb, I was shocked to learn that my eGo battery is a consumable and would eventually need replacing. "What? But it's rechargeable.!!!"

Then I realized that based on my use of rechargeables for other purposes, such as tools, GPS and surveying equipment, "rechargeable" doesn't mean "immortal."

In fact, I need a new 18v battery for my drill motor.

The biggest general point the OP is making, and the issue I see most often, is peeps don't listen to the question being posed. If someone is asking questions about an eRoll maybe asking them why they are interested in that to better understand if they are making a good choice - for them - is the better way to assist. Not blowing right past their questions with "That sucks! I like what I got. You need a mech mod. Get 32 g wire and some mesh and you can build a coil in 2 seconds." Happens too often.

Yes. Bold above is mine. Can I give that another yes?

Reading a post carefully can help but sometimes you just have to ask questions to get a good idea of what the poster actually needs.

I think we've all been guilty of just saying go with an EVOD or a Spinner or something. Sometimes it's in response to a direct question from the OP, but other times I know we're just saying what works for us and might not be the best choice for the OP's circumstances.

So I agree Ryedan, often all it takes is asking the OP why they decided to go that route, what is their budget or what are their needs before offering suggestions.

I really dislike the threads that start with the OP asking for advice because their CE4 isn't working right and all someone else posts is buy a Protank 2 and a Vamo and throw that crap away. How is that helping?
