I think cigarettes are simpler and they can rock a throat hit in a very quick manner. To get those things, it takes some work/effort. Sadly, Big tobacco made it very easy to keep smoking.

I figured vaping would be a different experience and I accepted it.

When I first started vaping it was a ween myself off cigarette thing. Then I got a decent setup and put them down completely. But at first I was a "dual user" something about an actual cig that a vape just can't mimic. No matter the setup. But the closer it gets the more accepting you get and eventually I started to enjoy vaping more. Hence the no more stinki nasty cigs.
I know for some it's more a hand to mouth thing. I think that's why my girl enjoys the BLUs more than MVP or provari. Cause I knows gear puts out more vape than the BLU.

Quitting was a gradual thing for me, and I did both for a while.

I always smoked much more when I got drunk. 3 packs in one evening wasn't unusual when I normally smoked under 2 PAD. (I'd wake up with my lungs feeling as bad as my head.)
Sometimes when I drink, vaping doesn't seem to supply enough nicotine, and I can't put the thing down.
Well, I've upgraded my device and keep some 36mg/ml on hand for just such an occasion which does the trick.

I've always wondered if alcohol flushes nicotine from your system somehow.

Similar effect. Interesting
My perception is that the nicotine isn't working as well.

But I'm curious as to why some folks (even former heavy smokers) are able to break away from analogs completely, and often very quickly, while others either are unable to do so, or prefer to do both.

Perhaps it's how they look at ecigs. When I quit (almost two pack a day smoker) I looked at ecigs like a type of NRT not as a replacement of smoking. For me, this mindset was critical and it worked for me.
