just thought i'd post a quick video on how to remove the wick out of your atty. some find it creates the burnt taste but personally it solves the problem for me and not only gets rid of the burnt taste but the atty performs better.

this is something really just for drippers i dont think that it'll help cartridge users.

Good video, phee. I've found this do be a big improvement to the stock 510 atty's. And as you said, it's best to do this when they're new. If they're used, usually, some will fuse and get left behind. Then all we can do is suffer 'til the last is burned out . Again, good video .

yeah, if you can get a super small pair of needle-nose tweezers you can work out some of the fused-burnt/melted threads but you risk damaging that coil =P

Added bold and separated caution to make it more noticeable. If this was done by cart user the atty would probably render itself unusable unless dripping.

On another note....I had a friend do this and he loves it! Think he did it on a 801 but not sure.

I am a cart user and have done this on a few of my attys. They perform great and I will probable do it to any new ones that I get. I few that I removed were burnt on the ends, and I noticed a big difference after removal.

This burned out tea kettle taste is a cryin' shame, I have two newish BE112's that work great apart from this burnt problem.

So are you all saying this is the fiberglass wick causing the burnt taste, and not the coil, I've reached down with tweezers and pulled the wick out, but the bad taste is still there.

This is cool. Thanks for the vid. I just looked in the atty I have on my Copper. I've been dripping on it lately, but I notice it doesn't have any treads. I can see the coil. I guess I already smoked the threads.

Just thought to mention this. After seeing a similar thread i removed the wick from both of my original 510 attys. Needless to say they went from excellent to crap and no amount of dripping/cleaning could bring them back to their original vaping capacity.
I might be a beginner, but from personal experience and what i read on the forums this is really counter productive.
Just think about it, if the wick wasn't necessary, it wouldn't be there. They would NOT put something extra in there, even if for only financial reasons. Extra stuff costs extra money.

Is it really that much of an improvement? I was also amazed at how much bigger the 801 atty is. Is it any better vapor wise than the 510 or 901?

If all you are going to do is drip, then removing the entire bridge (there is a thread on this) is probably in your best interest.

If you're not going to drip, then removing the 510 wick is probably not wise.

This should also come with a warning to new vapers
Cart modding might be ok, but leave the atty modding to more experienced vapers

No way am I about to do this with good tasting attys, but for an atty that's ready for the trash I'll try anything.

My next step is a looooong dry burn to see if I can burn that stuff to crisp and then a few hours in my fish pump vibrator with denture cleaner.

not ALL attys have the threads so there's no need to remove them in those cases.

a moderator did go in and emphasize that THIS IS FOR DRIPPERS and yes you can also remove the bridge completely but its much more difficult to do so than the threads.

on another note the threads are there because the attys were initially designed for carts, not dripping which is why the threads and bridge are there (to help juice from the carts run down to the coils).

yes the 801s produce a noticeably more amount of vapor but sacrifices a little bit of throat-hit or flavor to do so.

long dry burns are ok on standard batteries but be warned you can very easily pop them on the high voltage mods.

This worked out very well, two BE112's back on the road, burnt taste gone and smoking like new.

I washed them in hot water, dried them, then did several dry burns using my Radio Shack 4.5v 1600mA powered nico box, then into the fish pump/denture cleaner....Rinse in hot water, dried them, then more dry burns, but this time I ran them red hot a few times for about 40-50 seconds ...I was shooting for a minute but chickened out ..Back in the fish pump/and water for an hour, then dry.

They took quite a bit of coaxing to fire up, primed them good and started puffing....unresponsive,... blew them out from both ends and reprimed, blew out again from both ends, and loaded a fresh cart~~~~~Hullo vapour!!!

It's quite possible some of the wick is still in the coil, just can't see behind the bridge.

In this video i'm showing you my method of removing the bridge out of your atomiser. Be warned: this is something for drippers only! Cart users will likely not benefit from this and risk burning out the atomiser.

Let me also reiterate that I DO recommend this for drippers on 3.7v or lower but not so much high-voltage vapers. Personally I don't like how warm the vapor is at higher voltages but it feels fine at 3.7. Yes I do realize that the vapor is already kind of warm when you move to high-voltages but when you take the bridge out the vapor is even MORE warm; i can forgive the warmth with the bridge but when you go bridgeless its super super warm.

This mod is not for the faint of heart, I found it to be quite easy but some of you may not - its definitely a step beyond removing your wick, so please, do this at your own risk and as always: happy vaping.

Interestingly enough I did this last night, had a burnt tasting atomizer so I figured why not. Yes the little string was indeed burnt, and after a little bit of rinsing now tastes and hits great.

Anyways, I'm not dripping on it. Rather I'm using your (I think it's you) auto drip mod and it's working beautifully. Not sure how it'll hold up to a regular poly filled cart yet though.
