According to Russ, it tastes exactly like cigarettes. I tried it. Depending on amount of nicotine it ranges from nothing to nothing with a dash of pepper.

Had a cigarette yesterday (stress, and my first vape-aversary). It's disgusting. Definitely worse than unflavored nic.

Not just any cigarette, 24 mg in 30%pg / 70% VG tastes just like Marlboro light to me.

Actually, better :)

Sergey, not sure where you get your nic, but mine aint laced with pepper :)

Sorry to here about that cig, but congrats on the anniversary bro :)

Thank you TM and the answer to that would be "no" because I can't figure out how to get the coils and air hole in the correct position from the way you described it.

When I vape my Reo is positioned so that the button is facing down (towards the dimple in my chin) and the RM2 is pointed so the centre of my coil is straight up ( pointing towards the tip of my nose). The air hole I try to get so it is smack dab in the middle of my coil, both in width ( eg if it was a 10 wrap, try for wrap 5 - but I can never get that exact) and height, I prefer the air to hit the coil directly, not flowing ove or under.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense.

Also, I could be totally wrong, but this is how I enjoy it. S_X_D and others with more experience are way better to listen to then me.

Good luck.

All you coil gurus out there let me know if this makes any sense but I think the source of my foul taste has come from me contaminating my coils! I went through a few days where everything I vaped tasted terrible no matter if I put in cotton or ekowool wicks, 30 gauge kanthal or 32 gauge kanthal, 7 coils, 12 coils, wrapped around a green luer needle, or a pink one.

I put my coil building under a microscope and I think it had to do with me burning my coils red hot, then squishing it with my tweezers to get the coils closer together. Not sure what comprises the chrome finish on these tweezers, but I'm suspecting that when they are exposed to the hot coils, they were leaving some sort of residue along the the outer coils.

Today I have eliminated the step with the tweezers, and tried burning the freshly built coil clean several times and quenching under a water faucet. I'm not getting that nasty taste anymore but I'm still a long way from the vaping bliss I was couple weeks ago when I built the Igo-L with the packaged silica and 5 clumsily hand wrapped coils. I might just be going through a bad taste bud period.

Liveone, can you post a pic?

I have found that very close wraps, touching wherever possible, with some random tiny gaps are good. No need to tweeze-squeeze em. Just push em together cold with your finger against the plastic part of the needle. I preburn my wire before wrapping the coil.

Additionally, with cotton, it takes about 5-6 break-in hits for the flavor to get right.

Is your airhole situation good (just asking cause it has come up several times over the last several days) ? :)

This one is about 1.7 ohms with cotton. Lot of throat hit but muted flavors. Tried moving the coil up and down in relation to the airhole but not hitting any sweet spots. Thanks for looking! :toast:

You could try pulling the coil in towards the posts a bit next time. It looks like it could be very close to the airhole. Nice coil. Does the airhole end up directly in front of the coil when you screw the cap on?

The next thing to try is a 2 ohm coil same size bore. :) it'll surprise you how a wrap or two (higher resistance) will change the vape on these micros for the better :)

Sennie, your coil looks like its sitting too low. The air is probably just grazing the top of the coil while the rest of it is hiding behind the threads of the base. Put your screw driver back in it and lift it up so the bottom clears the edge. Air will go over the top and bottom giving a much better vape.

Super_x_drifter, a quick question. You probably already stated it and I missed it but what is the reason for heating the wire prior to making a coil?

Hey Roger, I'm not sure man, but I saw it in juicejunky 's original tutorial, so I never questioned it. I do it religiously with each piece of wire before I wrap. I sometimes do batches of 4" strips over the gas burner on the cooktop. I think it may burn off any machine oil and / or other impurities on the wire too.

I have subsequently learned that the process is called annealing and some claim that it makes the wire more pliable?

*nods* - i wrap it on silica as best i can and blowtorch the lot! Wire - wick and all. It's easier to mess with the wick then and if you cut the wick it cuts a lot more cleanly after a good rasping with that.

After all - if i never used the torch, HRH would use it to make meringues that have crispy tops.

It misses all the "it tastes crap only for the first 6 hits" - no no. If i wanted that i'd buy coils and a Provari, promptly curse both and carry on as before.
