Here are the links to what allegedly happened :( Prayers for this gentleman and his family.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/puresmoker/79545-so-discussion-exploding-batteries-4.html (4th page)

This is why I reminded everyone the other day NOT to use your Powerizer batteries in any other mods, they are not protected batts! BP has all kinds of protection built in but a lot of other mods don't.

The bp powerizers are unprotected, however bp has mod-level protection for current, temperature. Also, the notcigs mods have multiple vent holes at the bottom. Finally, on bp and ip, the delrin cap at the bottom is a natural "give" point.

Switching from a single large 3.7v battery to stacked 3 volt unprotected, on a mod without protection, is not so good. There is a reason for vendors to state things like "DO NOT use unprotected batteries! Also stacking batteries is not recommended." Why people ignore the manufacturer recommendations beats me. Unfortunately, a mod is built to take normal cylindrical cells, so people need to pay attention.

Buzz' devices I have zero concerns with. He has a good design.

Thanks for posting this, Vikki. Very, very scary. I have a tube mod(metal flashlight type). It's a Diamond from Parkes Vaping. It has a gas escape hole but I have no idea if it has a blow out plug. Where would that be located?

I guess any kind of ecig could explode since they use batteries. Looks like manufacturers of mods would have to comply with some sort of regulations. A lot of lawsuits would sure give vaping a bad name. I think the government is already mostly against it. Maybe there will be mod that doesn't use batteries and we can avoid such potential hazards.

It would also be nice if we had a list of batteries that are considered safest. I'm using Ultrafire and Tennergy 18650's...haven't a clue if they're the most safe. Probably a lot of other people are unaware of these safety issues when they go to find a good bargain on batteries.

There are multiple posts from Admin on battery safety on the forums. Most suppliers who sell mods do tell you what is best for their product. Too many vapers take it upon themselves to look for "cheaper" batteries without understanding batt chemistry or dangers. I'm not saying that is what happened in this case, but I see posts every day from people using batteries in an unsafe way :(

Best suggestion is that vapers take the time and responsibility to educate themselves on the basics of batteries :)

That's horrible. Even as bad as it is, I hope everyone reads it.

I also hope it prompts design changes for the mods that rely solely on the button hole for venting. The two problems that exist with that design are that 1) the user blocks the vent every time they fire the device and 2) when a battery vents/flames out/blows up, it does not maintain its shape and parts of it can block the vent. At least one hole big enough to vent the gasses *under the spring* so the spring doesn't allow a chunk of battery to block the hole is the most common design and probably the most reliable. Flashlights were made that way for a couple of decades and it proved reliable... but people didn't put flashlights in their own face a hundred times a day, so it's sure nice to see mods with other safety features in use as well.

Thanks for posting this , however ( and do NOT take this the wrong way !!! ) this type of thing has been posted before and it was BS ! I am NOT saying this is BUT it has been done before as a way to get back at a supplier.

IF this is true it is NOT GOOD ! for the industry and for the USER ! as you all know Notcigs has ALWAYS had protection in ALL of its mods BUT batteries do go BAD from time to time regardless of what we do so always take care and be smart about what is happening , the BEST defense is YOU !!!!!!!!! If a battery gets HOT GET AWAY from it or toss it away from you ! .

Do NOT use batts with broken or torn Outer wrapping !! throw them AWAY , NO protection can help you in this case !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are several reasons why I do not buy these postings yet ,
1. The posters are NEW members
2. they gave very little info
3. they have not replied to the ?'s from Steve at PS
4. the posts are now dead , no reply no more info , nothing from the actual Wife of the person etc,

In ANY case I NEVER want to see anybody get hurt using a PV !

when I got into this business SAFETY was our first concern , not to boast but Notcigs made the FIRST protected device on the market and ALL of out devices are protected and will always be protected.

Anyhow I hope we get to the bottom of this and that everybody is OK ! :vapor:

What I posted came from Rolygate one of the forum mods. I haven't read anything else about it. I just figured if he's posting something about it, then there must be some truth to it.

But bottom line, it does bring up an awareness that too often gets overlooked.

that point I will NOT argue with !! , we all want our customers to be safe , even the un protected mod makers , the vaping world has changed A LOT over the last 2 yrs and we have heard of only 2 incidents to date , the old one turned out to be user error in a bad way , he used non rechargeable batts on a 3.7 volt charger and they went bad on him , BUT it can happen so be aware at all times.

Which is why I trust your product without question . I can't, and won't say that for all vendors

Anyhow I hope we get to the bottom of this and that everybody is OK !

Damn! How horrible. I just got my Infinity Pro (haven't been able to try it yet, the batts are still charging) and this is the first news I see! Makes me nervous to even try the damn thing. I was so excited too! I sure hope Buzzkill is right & it isn't true. Nonetheless, I just got an education on batteries, so its better to be aware. Still, what a bummer!

Glad you got an Ipro Liz... Mike's pv's are totally protected, so there is no worry. Usually when the accidents happen, it is someone trying to be a modder and not quite understanding everything. OR using the WRONG batteries...

There is absolutely no reason to be leary of using your Ipro... I use my Bp and Ip all day every day. I use Mike's batteries. He ONLY sells what he has tested... I WOULD NOT vouche for him if I thought for a second that he was selling anything inferior...
