I typically read non-fiction, history related items. I enjoy a lot of the conspiracy theory, anti-religion/politics, etc. Richard Dawkins is good on those and his 'The God Delusion' is thought provoking, even though a lot of his work seems to be over my head. He uses a plethora of advanced terminology that I end up only gathering based on contextual clues. Another book that sticks in my mind is 'The Kite Runner'. One of my favorite line of books (Fiction, although based off of a lot of accuracies) is the Area 51 series by Robert Doherty. Outside of that, unless you consider Maxim and SI, books, I don't read as much as I used to.
And for the record, that question did seem a bit too deep for this realm.. But interesting none the less. Maybe we can continue these "highbrow" topics here and there..

The four horesemen! hah. Reading Hitchens and Dawkins is the only reason I've ever heard of Sam Harris, the biggest and smartest egghead of the four. They're all awesome though.
Honestly, im not much of a book reader, never have, never will be. I read about one book a year if it catches my eye. Now give me Uncles John's Bathroom Reader or a how to book, that I read, but novels just cant hold my interest long enough, must be my damn ADD. Last book I read was "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive" by Steve Earle. It was a fictional depictation of the doctor who gave Hank Williams the fatal dose of morphine, and how he became a back alley abortionist.
Quite the pot stirrers they are (were). They are up there with Bill Mahr as far as some of my favorite "against the grain" people go.
