Has anyone gotten delayed shortness of breath from their e-cig? I tried mine for maybe 30 puffs total over a few days, didn't use it again. A month later I starting feeling SOB, and some nausea after exercise. I'm 34 years old with no previous lung issues. The SOB persists nearly a month later, it's affecting my life at this point. I'm worried I have done permanent damage to myself. To make matters worse, I didn't even smoke! I was just really curious and figured trying it a couple of times couldn't do any permanent damage. Doctor said chest x-ray looked normal, and spirometry was a tad low, but still acceptable. I'm on inhalers now. I realize anxiety probably plays a small part into this, but I am really freaking out. I don't know if it has anything to do with the e-cig, but I can't stop thinking about it, it's ruining my professional and private life. I feel like such an idiot. It was a PG liquid, btw.

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear about your medical issues. One thing I've learned from this forum and a great deal of research is that e-cigs are relatively harmless and no more dangerous than a cup of coffee. of course, that's not to say that you might be allergic to PG or something, and some vapers are. Even so, I've never heard of a case lingering like yours has. Professionally, I am a cancer researcher for a major institution, and I've never heard of anything like this. It doesn't sound like e-cigs, but it could be anything and only a trained medical professional is able to help you with this. Only a doctor can even provide you with medical advice, or face serious penalties. You might check the search function of this website and see if you can find anything along these lines in any previous posting. I haven't been here that long and I've seen nothing like this. Hope it all works out for you and best of luck!

E-cigs are no more dangerous than a cup of coffee?? I don't believe that for a second. You are inhaling a bunch of chemicals. The flavorings are meant to be eaten, not inhaled. A lot of these come from China. I wish I had done more research on this before "experimenting". I wouldn't think an allergic reaction would show up a month later, that is what is confusing to me. But something is amiss, and the only thing I can think of is the e-cigs. I've never had any lung problems before. I could be totally wrong, but it seems suspicious to me. God, I wish I could go back in time and smack myself upside the head for even considering this.

Just curious, if you never smoked, why did you try this. E cigs in my opinion are to help long time smokers lay the stinkies down. I feel for you and I am no doctor, but I also deal with anxiety on a daily basis and sometimes it can get the better of us. Hope you feel better soon and do see a medical professional again and try to get to the bottom of this so that you can get your life back on track. Good luck!

Yes you are correct eddy very little research has been done to see the effects of inhaling these different things the idea behind it is that anything is better than an analog cigarette. And I think 99 percent of the people on this forum are ex smokers so shortness of breath is or was an everyday thing for us so we wouldn't think anything of it if we experienced something like this so I'm not really sure how much information you're going to find. I do wish you the best of luck and hope it was not the e-cigarette that did this to you.

Since taking up vaping and quitting smoking, I've gone from 5 minute miles to 4 minute miles on my NordicTrack bike and my max heart rate while on the bike has gone from 172 to 148.
Could be you are experiencing psychologically brought on physiologic symptoms.
Absolutely none of my e-juice contains ingredients from China.

To be honest, I don't really know. I was just curious. I have seen other people vape, and I thought maybe a little nicotine could help my mental focus at work, without the risk of smoking. Or get a little buzz, or whatever. I've been really kicking myself for 3 weeks now. I almost didn't do it, because I wasn't sure of long term effects, but I was only planning on trying it for a little while. I figured even if it was bad for you, a few times wouldn't cause any lasting effects. Soooo, stupid!! I'm hoping it's anxiety causing my symptoms now, but I'm really scared I've ruined my life. I do plan on seeing some doctors again (pulmonary and a psychologist), but the thing is I will probably never know if this is really the cause. Unless I ever feel 100% normal again, it will always be at the back of my mind. I have a lot of life events going on right now, plus work. I can't concentrate on anything.....

Oh please...30 puffs in a few DAYS? I took 30 puffs the first session--after 48 hours vaping, the wheezing and coughing that I'd had for 5 years was GONE. Just sayin'.

Edited to add: The lungs are amazingly resilient things...most of us are long time smokers, and have done WAY more damage to our lungs over DECADES than you did in a few days--and our lungs start healing immediately.

functioning cilia can begin regenerating within a few days of quitting smoking, and may completely return to their original functioning after an extended period; statistics show that people who have quit smoking reduce their risk of developing lung cancer to that of a person who has never smoked, within 10 to 15 years after quitting.

You have not done any permanent damage to yourself, at least by vaping. If you're concerned, see a DR.

Sorry to hear you are having medical issues, if you researched eliquid from a reliable source you will find the main ingredient that creates the vapor is used in asthma inhalers and some lung rehabilitation therapy. Everything but the flavors have been tested by several different groups and found no serious issues from using it. As for chemicals and such from China well it's a possibility buti make my own and there are allot of local companies that make it.

Anyways hope you feel better soon and find the real reason you are having these issues.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. And it's 30 puffs in a few days total. Then a month later having the SOB issues. There's something else going on that's most likely unrelated to vaping. Good thing you're seeing a doctor.

Sorry to hear what you are going through, I don't believe 30 puffs from an e-cig can do you any harm. Driving in traffic probably has more harmful exhaust fumes than an e-cig. Could be allergic to PG or Nicotine? If you seen a doctor and you checked out fine then maybe it is just in your head? Try a psychiatrist if it is affecting your life.

I'm no doctor but you seem like a stressful type of person. You wanted to try it due to stress and such to help you out. Well stress and anxiety are major factors in shortness of breath, and with everything you seem to be dealing with and also stressing out and being paranoid about this could easily give you enough anxiety to have sob. I would relax and maybe try some herbal tea and stop getting yourself worked up over things you aren't sure of. Stress and anxiety can also lead to heart attacks, so would be a good idea to let your doctor know about your stress aswell.

Sounds like you have some ongoing issues, eddie1053. Recommend you definitely see a psychologist, ASAP. Good luck!

I'm sorry you are feeling so stressed, I really doubt the very little vaping you did is causing this, however you cannot assume that anxiety is causing it either as feeling out of breath can cause anxiety. A little story for you...... My aunt was having serious shortness of breath problems and because she is a very nervous stressed personality everyone assumed it was stress, it wasn't, she continued complaining to her Dr. was sent to a specialist and it turns out she had low iron levels in her blood which they were able to remedy, it never was her lungs or her anxiety. So keep seeing your doctors, I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this. I hope you are feeling better soon.
