i disagree with all you no sayers out there and am on drozd's side, and even go as far as supporting non-smokers. my other half started vaping 0 nic just for the fun of it and the different flavours, and.. wait for it... to lose weight. and it seems to work. instead of eating chocolate, a chocolate flavoured cart is on the menu. and i don't see how a 0 nic vaper could become addicted. maybe to the habbit, but the same can happen when chewing gum or sucking on a lollypop.
that's my thoughts on the matter. of course, i agree that we don't know how good or bad vaping is for you. it is better than smoking, yes, but probably not as good as not smoking and not vaping. but if you want to go for it, why not. i don't see what all the fuss is about. if non-smokers want to vape, i say let them. it's not like only smokers have the right to vape...

Oh I'll throw that out there too...this winter since starting to vape I did not get sick once all winter...Could that be attributed to the air germicide properties of PG?...I think it may..

There have been several studies on PG...several on inhaled PG to boot..none of them show any long term effects of PG inhalation ther than a dryness of the throat and nasal passages..
and these are studies that have appeared in time, BMJ, Journal of pharmacology, and a report by NASA..
Heck even the CDC's Agency for toxic substances and disease registry gives an insane # for safe daily allowace of something like 27g/kg...and that's ingested...and states that it have a half life of 4 hours before it starts to leave the body..the only adverse reactions have been in people where it was used as a topical for 3rd+ degree burns and intravenous injections where the person was getting upwards of 3000g doses...
so lets take an average 180lb guy....he'd have to vape something like 2187ml in a 4 hour time period..to approach going over the safe daily allowance....I vape maybe 2ml at most....I'm very confident I'm safe as far as vaping goes

(prolonged use of PG has been linked -vaguely- with kidney disease)

Uhm ... no? What has been linked to kidney problems are massive overdoses, but you need so much PG that it would be very diffcult to get enough into your system by drinking it, you'd have to get it intravenously or by a similar way.
Not even remotely possible to get from vaping.

Do a search for kidney problems, there was a thread about this not too long ago.

See this is the attitude I disagree with..
They are an occasional smoker not a non smoker..

This logic you're seeming to present is that somebody must have a certain amount or # of years that they smoke traditional combustable cigs before they can switch to a reduced harm product?
I see your analogy and this situation as someone who has an occasional cup of coffee asking if they should just use decaf...
And your response akin to saying only pot a day coffee drinkers get decaf...
If a person is going to pick up the vice anyway (or if they indulge on occasion anyway, as the OP says they do) what is the harm of them seeking a reduced risk alternative from the get go?..is there a certain amount of full harm that they have to experience before being entitled to reduced harm?

I don't have attitudes. Just opinions. OP smokes a cigarette now and then...should the OP vape on a regular basis as i understand it? No...and thats my opinion not an attitude.

If the OP wants to vape now and then...its a different thing. But that does not seem to be the case or the OP would not have put serious thought on that.

You assume that a person is going to pick the vice anyway, i assume the person is just asking for opinions. And don't assume that i claim that the only way to vape is to start smoking and then....vape. That is not the case.

If you want to lose weight...I dunno, EAT LESS.

Pass on the second whopper with cheese.

Worked for me.

Non-smokers vaping is akin to gentrification. No good can come of this.

Sorry that's the way your post came across to me with the vaping is only for ex-smokers comment...

I suppose I'm hyper sensitive to this issue right at this moment...because I in fact, just gave a PV to a non smoking, asthmatic...because otherwise she was gonna try smoking...

She's been in pain for about 2 months now...she has a history of both crohn's and ulcerative colitis in her family (who partially self medicate by smoking)...her doctor has put her through a battery of tests yet for some reason refuses to test for either of these 2 conditions (tried to get her to see another doctor, but she says she likes this one)...so she was considering trying to smoke to attemt to alleviate some of her pain....so darn right I gave her a PV...and she was able to get out of bed and be somewhat active since then...

Wow. Tremendous dismissal of a very personal and complicated issue for a lot of people. You could also say...

If you want to quit smoking...I dunno, JUST STOP.
Get yourself some JuicyFruit to tide you over.

In regards to OP, I really don't see the point of buying into what can be an expensive habit for the sake of... what exactly? But then again, I don't see the point of my one friend spending all his money on Star Wars collectibles.

A grown person is entitled to make their own choices. Starting up an expensive and (potentially) addictive habit might not be a good one, but it's each person's decision to make. Anybody here can give you all the encouragement they want to pick up a vice, but in the end, the decision is yours, and you'll have to live with it. If a choice must be made, choose wisely.

Yes, my response was harsh, and so be it.

A grown person has the right to make an informed decision, but to look to people who are struggling with the analog addiction for support?

That's just plain ol' narcissistic. If you are going to vape, then by your logic, feel free. Just don't post here looking for permission.

By no means am I, who has my own issues, going to tell someone it's ok to vape when they don't smoke...even if it's zero nic. Find another trendy hobby to look good doing.

Even if your vaping 0mg its bad..the lungs don't want water vapor, they want oxygen. This is the reason vaping is looked down upon and may be potentially banned, people get a false sense of safety with ecigs, and they shouldn't! We don't know the effects!

If you only smoke socially and once in awhile, my advice is to keep it that way.

Also if you start vaping all the time you will acquire that psychologically addicting oral fixation aspect, and if heaven forbid ecigs are banned, how are you going to fulfill it?

Homeish now
Know what your grown adult, you can do what you wish...but vaping is currently an unknown risk. The only thing we do know for a fact..is for a hardcore smoker...it cant be that much worst then what we where already doing anyway. The majority of vapers, have been smoking 10,20,30, 40 some odd years before switching...our lungs are already screwed.

If I was you, and i wasn't addicted to this stuff....I'd leave it all the hell alone and that goes for both real and electronic cigs.
But I'm smarter now then I used to be, I used to smoke just like you... one now and then because it was relaxing, or one when a friend did. By far the dumbest mistake I ever made.

Now I very much believe that Adults should be able to do whatever they wish to the extent that they arnt stepping on other freedoms and rights....but if you where my little brother I'd hit ya upside the head for even considering such.

E-cigs were meant to REPLACE cigarettes which have a multitude of poisons and carcinogens the human body has to deal with on a daily basis with something harmless or less harmful. So, if you want to start a habit that can possibly turn into a pricey hobby, first go to an internet e-cig supply website and figure up the price of a starter kit, then the chargers, pass-thrus, car chargers, carrying/charger cases and a few e-liquids (to get started). You should know first, though, that an e-cig is not an indefinite lasting tool once it comes out of the box. You will have to repurchase (on an ongoing basis as long as you vape) batteries, atomizers, e-liquids, and spare parts. Furthermore, for the more pungent liquids like menthol, clove, etc., you'll need a few dedicated atomizers and cartridges. So yes, people may save tons on money on cigarettes, but there is a considerable sum on the initial hardware, software, and all the frills. The end decision is really up to you if you're over 18. If you want just a calming effect, try Spring Forest Qigong. That not only calms you, but it detoxes your body daily, and many have cured themselves from degenerative diseases practicing it. On the Oprah show, Dr. Oz said -- If you want to live to be 100, do Qigong. I won't explain, just Google it. Please give your friend a big hug for me and tell him to keep up the good work. If you continue to use his e-cig, the purchase and gift of a bottle of e-liquid for him would be not only appropriate, but also supportive.

This is one of the reasons they want to ban e-cigs..............Non-smokers using this instead of smokers. It's touchy territory. My teenage daughter picked up my nasty habit of smoking. I will not buy her cigarettes. She finds another adult to do so. BUT, and this is a big but, I'd rather her vape than smoke analogs. I'd really rather her do neither but it's too late for that. I'm debating on purchasing her a starter kit, but she will have to supply her own nicotine habit. It's a tough call. I know either way, analogs or PV, she's going to get her nic.......

I would say no as well...but in response to people that think they vape more often than they used to smoke...Originally I would have agreed with you because I felt the same way for some time about vaping. But I started to think about how often I used to smoke and about how many puffs you get from an analog. I believe the reason people think this is because with an analog you go light up and go through the whole analog in about 5-7 min. and then its over. but in my experience with PV's I puff once or twice every 5 min. or so... I use it for about 30 min. then put it down for a while. so thats about 12 puffs per use, very close to what you get off of one analog...so for me it is very comparible to what I was smoking with analogs. It just feels like you are doing it more. Like I said this was the case with me, I am sure everyone has to find there own comfort level as far as usage goes.

I don't see an issue with a non-smoker vaping if they choose to. Can't see why anyone would want to if they don't need the nicotine due to physical addiction, but to each their own. I think the best suggestion for the social smoker who wants to vape occasionally is to pick up a cheap 510 kit (35.00 at cignot.com, where I got mine) and puff 0 nic in a tasty flavor they enjoy while their analog smoking friends puff away on the butts. I don't see atomized PG as particularly dangerous and no different to my mind then occasionally sucking a lolly. Juice is made from food grade PG - if burning food grade materials will kill a person, then my wife has tried to murder me at dinner every night for our entire marriage. For the social vaper, it's unlikely the starter kit will wear out anytime soon and will therefore not be too costly.
