Should the Current Health Care Reform bill be signed into law.

How do you feel about the current health reform bill?

  • I love it pass it right now!

  • I don't like it at all and hope it is voted down!

  • I am not happy with the bill but I hope it passes as it's at least a step in the right direction.

  • I am happy with some of the bill but I don't want it to pass because I feel it is unconstitutional.

O.K. you asked:) I think the U.S. should at least have a public option, or better yet a single payer program.

ALL the other industrialized western countries have it and do fine. They think our system is stupid and ineffective, and they're right. Last time I saw a ranking, we paid about twice as much for our health care and got the least. Ranking was 37 out of 50.

I'm a nurse, and feel with how wealthy our country is, that health care should be a right. We have it for vets and the elderly and the dirt poor, why not the middle class?

Take care of our citizens before all the foreign countries we send $$$ of aid to. Clean up our own backyard and if their is something left, then send aid to others.

I'm not happy with the bill as it stands right now. But insuring 30+ million more people is better than nothing.

I agree with Rimp. They need to vote on each part by itself. They have thrown in so much just to get votes and made so many deals it's insane. We need a healthcare bill that is for once for the regular middle class people.

I think most people would agree that reform is needed. However, I am not sure how much reform is actually in this bill and if that small reform offsets the bad parts of the bill such as the mandates.

The mandates scare me and they should scare everyone. Premiums will be going up there is not two ways about it and the businesses that can't afford them will be stuck will billions in fines if they don't start laying people off. I think many jobs will be lost because of this provision.

Not happy with the watered down wimpy bill, but want to see it law. It is a start, and can be built upon down the road. Civil Rights legislation was established in steps. Health Care can be too. The alternative, to discard the bill, however vestigial it is of the original intent , could mean no health care reform for decades, maybe generations to come. It's showtime. And, let me add, the past year's watering down and bending over backwards to the tiny minority, in SPITE of a clear mandate, really pisses me off at the Democratic Party.

If you voted no, why? What does the bill do that you specifically object to?
Gee, if you'd spend a few hours watching Faux Noise, you'd know the answers. (I'm kidding) ... (no, I'm not).

I'll watch this thread to see responses to your question.

Rimp - I love ya! BUT - I dont want any part of this bill. Anything our Government touches turns to ...... They cant run Social Security or Medicare or Veterans Hospitals in a fiscally responisble way - what makes you think they can do this? My biggest gripe is - how in the hell is this going to be paid for? God help our kids and grandkids.

Right now - I think Obama, the Senate and Congress need to focus on two things and two things - JOBS & PAYING DOWN US DEBT. If jobs dont start a real recovery - there will be no one to pay for this. If we don't start paying down this debt and balancing the budget, the Chinese will own us sooner than you think.

However, - something you said - if we stopped sending money to other countries and fighting wars - the roads could be paved with gold here.

Nothing for me, thanks.
They need to fix and fund present system, work towards fair and full coverage for all, and don't anyone think that "middle class" will get your anywhere but broke in your Golden Years. With unsustainable debt and an empty job market, these cost projections will turn out to be just as bogus as Social Security and Medicare.

I'm looking forward to my medicare and social security, and I'm only 29. This bill makes it more likely medicare will still be there when I retire. I'll even pay higher taxes down the road to get it.

I love you both Kate and Barnetted, can you imagine what would happen to all the elderly WITHOUT social security and medicare? There are so many elderly people that just "get by" with ss and medicare.

If they didn't have these government programs, many would not be able to live in their own homes or have medical care. And our vets would get nothing for their service.

If it meant higher taxes so people who worked their butts off their whole lives could have decent health care and be able to retire, I'd pay my share. It works in France, Canada, Great Britain etc.

I work for the state and it's a sin, how many people have worked 30 or 35 years and can't afford to retire because their contribution to retiree health care is $500 per month for single and $1000 for family coverage. I have seen so many people retire and have to come back to work for health insurance coverage.

My dear husband makes a whopping $1100 per month after 34 years with the state. Damn good thing his wife is still working and can have him on her coverage.

As a nurse I am sooo tired of seeing different levels of health care given to people with different levels of insurance. I'm sorry, but I feel healthcare should be a right, paid for by taxes.

We are one of the wealthiest countries and we pay way too much for such rediculous coverage. There are so many politicians in the pockets of these insurance companies that it would take totally scrapping this broken system and instituting a completely new one to address the true medical needs of our people. Sorry for the rant, it's just a subject that should be a non subject. We're paying for 2 rediculous wars, not for the welfare of our citizens.

Rimp, understood...I just turned 63, went of SS at 62, our two SS checks and a nice state pension for my husband doesn't quite cover the bills, he's on VA benefits. He gets excellent care, but more and more is going onto his Supplemental insurance, and out of pocket growing as that doesn't cover the exemptions. Insurance for ourselves our car and property is our biggest expense.
We both still work full time, after my SS check started coming in, I bought Health Insurance, Catastropic, for the first time in 3 yrs have some major medical coverage, but it doesn't cover any preventative care. It's a real bummer, but in my humble opinion, the Government doesn't grant our "rights", we are all equally born with certain rights. The Government should be charged as in the Constitution to protect and defend our rights to be able to provide for ourselves in a fair market with fair wages, and cover those who can't provide for themselves, for the well-being of all, not to grant all people the right to Health Care under Penalty of Law for non-compliance to purchase it under the cloud of huge unsustainable debt and additional massive debilitating taxation. This Bill is not the answer to our problems, it compounds them. And it's been tainted with secrecy, special treatments, and questionable ethics and procedures. A tainted Tree.

Well said!

My opinion: My government doesn't care about me, it cares about making money so they can spend it frivolously without penalty.
