Sigelei #19 Tips, tricks, and DON'Ts

After seeing posts about the SG-1 hybrid kit and the DIY-free way for the sigelei 19, I decided to go my own route and take my spare original sigelei 19 cap to the bench grinder till it was flush with my rba's (faux hybrid look).

Finished the cap with 1000 grit sandpaper and scotchbrite

Grinded original on the left.

I'm very happy with the results and don't think i'll ever touch the nzonic cap in a while or ever

I ended up cutting a slot in.the magnet with a drimmel to use a flat head in and soaked the entire switch in rubbing alchohol for an hour or so pulled it out dried it off pinned the switch on the bottom of a shoe to keep it from turning/spinning and gave it some turns lefty righty till it finally broke loose then cleaned all the threads on the plunger and button with a needle to get all the glue gunk out once I could easily screw the plunger In and out of the button put it all back together

I soaked it in rubbing alcohol for about an hour and a half and gave it another go... still didn't come off. Cut myself up fairly good. I'll have to cut a groove and give it another shot tomorrow. this thing is pissin me off. It sucks because it miss fires like crazy and shocks my hand. I love the look of the mod and the feel of it, I just need to get this damn switch open so I can fix it.

Just clearing that up. That actually is not whats happening. You can see my post here that explains the contact points. The contact points are not the side of the switch rather the top of the actual button.

It depends on how much the brass pin juts out to contact the battery. Mine made contact with the battery before touching the bottom of the housing (where you placed the washer). Tilting the button would get it to fire along with a spark from the side walls. If you have the magnet in place, added a washer between the brass post and the button or drilled and tapped for an adjustable bolt, then you're probably not making contact from the inside base of the button. I polished all the surfaces to get rid of the grind in the switch, so no glue or corrosion either.

Someone else (can't remember who) tried boiling the switch...maybe give that a shot? Don't burn yourself, though, since you've already cut yourself on it. I wonder if soaking in acetone might work better than alcohol?
Is there any solution for squeaky button? Can a softer spring fix it? Gus, gp paps and caravela also bottom button mods but their buttons arent squeaky, they have very very smooth pressing feel. Is it result from some unique part of them? (I really dont think so)
Polish the edges of the switch button and the interior of the housing.

Yup I Agree:)

I think that is the beauty of the copper wire switch fix. It doesn't matter how your pin is seated or the brass post makes the connection point (button bottom or brass washer).

I have two small orings on the post to bring the gap between brass and battery to about 2mm push distance and a feather touch spring. I dont need to focus on where I push the button, off center, on a angle, etc. Since doing the mod, I haven't had to do anything to the switch. In fact I completely forgot about it.....It works every time and is completely smooth. :)

Yea, the guy that I got the rubbing alcohol idea from boiled his two times and it didn't work, so he then did the rubbing alcohol thing to and it finally worked.

I might boil it up, I just don't wanna melt the delrin or whatever that plastic is made out of in the switch.

I actually did not boil the cap 2 times, I let it steep in boiling water 2-3 times. Than I did the 99% isopropyl alcohol. Glue is soluble in ispopropyl and acetone as well. I was scared the acetone would eat the plastic, but so far no one has had a problem with it.

The delrin plastic is fine in my case.

Get a dremel ready if anything

Did you try it, just polishing is enough?
I didn't do it (don't have the 19 yet :D), but Todd of Todd's Reviews did and it worked. There is "before" and "after" in his video review. When I get my 19, I will do it too... *scritch* noises go right up my spine like fingernails on a chalkboard :glare:

Well, I boiled it for 20mins, then another 10mins of frustration to get it undone... I had to throw it onto a floor matt button side down and let it bounce back up from the ground to finally loosen it up.. I did it wile it was still hot from the boil in hopes that the glue was still moist.

But it finally came apart!! My hands hurt so bad! I got the dreaded finger pinch by the back end of the pliers.

Dont get me wrong but if i remember correctly, his #19's button was squeaky in both parts of the video(before modding and after modding). I think reason of the squaekiness is not button, its spring(maybe im wrong of course). There was a guy that used caravela spring on #19 and it worked well but i cant find a caravela spring because im living in Turkey.

Can someone take a video about fixing squeaky button with easy to find pieces? Or photos with explanation?
