The edge of Mayhem
And I thought of moistening some portions with sweet/creamed coffee, but since they have to "set" for three days, I worried a bit about fungus or bacteria growth in the broth! I might not need to worry, but that was my concern, so I haven't tested it that way.

I agree TB, it might work ok for a few portions but if not used fairly quickly or if taken from a refrigerated environment, they'd likely go sour/rancid :p. Also, any introduction of cane sugar would probably invite trouble unless used in short term.

TV, you are just strange nephew.........lol

I soaked the last moisture dried portion in sweet apple.
Had that light nasty taste again, not nearly as strong as the wintergreen. No apple at all at 50%.
Same apple made great sweet apple vape.

I think totally drying the portions may have altered them in some way.
Oddly, the peppermint and menthol worked fine.

Guess its another try now with undried , straight from the bucket ones.
See if the result is the same.
Will report findings.

Retest with a non dried portion of SnusX and wintergreen.
I cut back the wintergreen to 10% , from 30%, and it was good.
Lasted a looong time. It could maybe have stood a little sweetness.
I'll wait for TB's post on the Stevia test.
2 things changed so I cant say drying was the culprit. I doubt it was.

I still have the apple to try and it is the exact same % as before, except fo the drying of the portion.

I did notice something odd abt the SnusX portions. They are quite a bit diff in size. The tobacco volume weighs the same, but its easy to see that some are the size of a Thunder Frosted and some are just larger than an Ettan regular. All that differs is the thickness due to volume.
I never noticed this in premade Swedish portions before.
Makes a person wonder if these were rejected due to size by QC and sold off rather than toss them or redo them.

You might be on to something, Vaporer. I've noticed the same.

I've found I just don't like "wet" snus. So the portions I soaked in Stevia water were distasteful to me. I set them out to dry. And now I like them a lot. They're just sweet tobacco. No other flavor.

I've found they are okay straight from the box. But the Stevia added a little sweetness that cut the tobacco bitterness. I might try Stevia and coffee next.

I'm terrible at keeping recipe details. I'm more like the old "pinch of salt" cook. But I used the plastic snus container that came with the bucket, filled it maybe one-fourth with warm water, then emptied one packet of Stevia, stirred, and dumped in about 20 portions. I let them soak up everything, then set them out to dry.

They were kind of sickeningly sweet when wet, but great when dried out.

FYI on strength: I find these plenty strong. Almost too strong. They make me very, very sleepy!!! So I'm not at all concerned if a little nicotine evaporates in the moisture that escapes during the drying process. The snus remain plenty strong.

Went shopping the other night and decided to see what they had in the way of flavorings. I only have about 100+ but.....saw a couple that really struck my interest and just sounded good for the SnusX project. McCormicks 1oz Imitation Rum and Pure Mint Extract. Why Imitation Rum when it has 29% alcohol? Oh well.........the Mint is 89%! 8-o It's a mixture of Spearmint and Peppermint oils. :p
Also picked up a box of Sun Crystals Sweetner (5 calories per pouch).

Soaked a few portions in the Mint Extract for abt 30 seconds and used my thumb to roll the excess out of the portion in an empty snuff tin. A little tilt here helps alot and then place them in a clean tin.
Mix 50ml of distilled water with 1 packet of Sun Crystals. Put 5 drops of the sweet stuff on each portion and let it air out for abt an hr and snapped the lid on. In the fridge overnight. Tried one this afternoon and I swear it very similar to Thunder Frosted with a lower nic hit naturally. At least for my poor taste buds its close and the flavor lasts a long time. Not real sweet, but after the wintergreen experience I felt a need for a little caution. Many may not want it in at all and I'm not sure its needed. Some may like it sweeter.

Will try the Rum one this evening later on. They also had Orange and Vanilla, which I already had. Will make some of those tonight. The Vanilla is weak I know, but the Orange is worth a test.

Ok, need someone to try this and see what they think! You can adjust the times, amount and moisture to suit. Letting the alcohol evaporate out keeps the initial burn down. Yea, I had to try a fresh made one. :)

Ah....I think TV just raised his hand.

After a short while, I didn't care for the rum flavored snus either. Rum will go in cakes from now on. In fact, I'm rather liking just the snus sweetened with Stevia. Even my beloved Kahlua flavor tastes strange in the portion.

But I must face it: Companies spend millions over years to have experts work on taste. You and I and Sammy Snuser aren't going to hit some magic potion mix in our kitchens overnight. When these SnusX are used up, I will again order General Mini Mint, General Wintergreen, Oomph Citrus/Menthol and maybe some Offroad Coffee/Vanilla again.

I'm not trying to hit anything magic for sure TB. Just some flavors that will work well, hopefully similar to something people are fond of. So far, it's a crap shoot. The rum flavoring wasnt bad, surely not lip smacking but it does follow a trend I see with the SnusX and and maybe all snus. Some flavors dont work well. Period.

Menthol , Spearmint and Peppermint so far do well. The Rum was ok, short lived, then dropped to a very light earthy taste. Easy to remember as it was a mild version on the Wintergreen test I did. You've seen the comments on commercial wintergreen snus. General I think some say is bitter and nasty as soon as the flavor starts to fade. The wintergreen test was like that from the git go yet I have and enjoy Thunder Wintergreen.
Apple did exactly the same thing. Earthy dirt taste, with no apple at all. A friend sent me some commercial apple flavor snus and claimed it had no apple flavor to her. Well, all I got was that familiar earthy dirt too.
I tried a very good apple flavoring I have and it tasted identical to the commercial apple snus she sent. It almost like you can add all you want, the snus "eats it" and makes it taste worse than an untouched portion.
Orange is aged enough for a test today.

I'm not seeing a lot of tester resuts posted. Failed tests show as much as good ones. No shame in it and its valuable and useful data.

As of now, people wanting cheaper snus, pre-Pact Act Tax storage volume will be ok if they like whats been posted that at a minimum of "works pretty well". Taste is probably the most subjective thing there is as you are well aware. If they don't like menthol, the mints, or I'll say an Ettan regular and a sweet portion from your "sweetness" tossed in, they are gonna be hard pressed to make it work until more test results are posted here.

I looked at various snus lists and they do appear limited in flavors. We might have found what they did, some flavors just dont work. Replicating one that is your favorite may not be easy to reproduce something even close. They have done this for many years and the flavor list is limited. As you said, what they have in flavors didnt come cheap.
Even SnusX offers few flavors.

I'm ok with them as I like menthol and the mints. More testing later.

Tested the McCormick Pure Orange Extract and sweetener. Not bad at all.
Flavor is holding ok at 1hr and some may like it a bit sweeter. So far, no nasty taste at all. If it doesnt show when the flavor leaves I'd add this to good ones for SnusX.

Honey might be a good sweetner. Its a great natural antibacterial too!

Vaporer, this sounds real good! When you get the fine details worked out, I'd like this recipe.

sunset, at the 2hr mark it still has flavor if moved or flipped.
It's still good and no nasty bite. :)

Recipie....hmmmmmm
Ok, Get the 1oz bottle of McCormicks Pure Orange Extraxt from the grocery.
Try 5 portions 1st. Soak them for abt 30 seconds in the extract and roll the excess out with your thumb and toss them in a clean snus tin. I rolled them in the lid. Let the tin sit open for abt an hr so the alcohol can evaporate. Single layer. Prop them on the edge of the tin worked well to for that hr. Put the lid on and leave in the fridge over night.

Put and excess you squeezed out when thumb rolling in a diff small clean bottle with what is left over from the soaking. You can use it later, but dont put it back in the original bottle. I did it all in a plastic snus tin. Good for testing small batches and little waste. ;)

When you get up, pop one in and try it. You can tell then if it needs sweetened for your taste. I like it after the sweetness left. If you want more orange flavor, put a few drops on each portion from what you saved. No need to waste it. Let it set open for an hr and back in the fridge.
Thats about all there is to it.

If you like peppermint or spearmint, get the McCormics Pure Mint Extract and do the same way. :p
