This is what I don't understand.

Do people really feel either way about vape gear? Surely to GOD no one thinks that they are superior because they have such and such setup.......and vice versa of course

I have nice stuff, and if anything I think that I am a little stupid for having spent what I have. I like it, but still.

I have 3 higher than average mods (2 REOs and a Provari) and hnestly to me they were worth every penny for the quality and durability. The rest of my stuff is cheap clones or inexpensive newbie setups. LOL

Don't feel stupid for buy something that will last no matter the cost. At the same time don't put yourself in the poorhouse trying to as we Americans say "Keep up with the Jones"

The only thing that matters is that whatever anyone uses it keeps them off cigs.

think about it... you grow up all your life with parents telling you ... "you have to do it this way"...
You go thru school with teachers telling you to do it this way
You go thru a work enviroment with supervisors telling you to do it this way....
now you have every one who learned thru experience that have been told to do "it this way"
now telling you to " do it this way"

monkey see monkey do

you may want to consider.... not do.. :)

Character impresses me, nobody gets extra respect from me because of what they drive or how many C-notes are in their wallet.

But we're surrounded by material fools. I know I posted this in the forum before, but I know a guy that KNOWS if you have drywall in your home, you're white trash. ONLY the best people have plaster walls. :?:

I haven't really come across anything of that sought here. In fact last week I read someone ranting and raving about their kit not working, and the reply was, "look man, we're trying to help you here." The members on this site are only trying to help by giving their own personal recommendations. Everybody here is from different walks of life and backgrounds with massively different budgets. So of course recommendations will vary greatly.

Sometimes it's like someone like me and Bill Gates having a discussion about the next car to buy. But that's just the way it is.

I'm seeing allot of that; thankfully!
But I am starting to notice more and more people just plain being ....... I don't care what anyone else vapes on. If there happy, than great, I'm happy for them; and, I don't care what anyone thinks about what I vape on, I'm Happy. I've gotten some great advice on here; some advice that's kept me from going back to cigs.
It kills me when I see these ...... feeling the need to bash someone or their gear for the sole reason of; it's not what they would want. The original poster is thrilled;they got their vapemail that they've been patiently waiting for; and, are so excited, they come to ECF to tell the world only to have a bunch of people take the time to make them feel like poop. It drives me insane!!
Or better yet; the OP looking for advice on something that they apparently enjoy and instead of advice or perhaps silence they get told to throw in the sink and go buy(insert mod here).
How is that productive? That's just some ..... needing to make someone feel like poop.
All I can figure is, it's someone who got bullied in school and now uses the internet as an outlet to project their feelings of inadequacy. Grow the hell up already.

Ok rant over.

Sometimes when you are new to vaping and struggling with your eGo type battery and trying to find the "right" juice, the "help" you get when you pose a question can be overwhelming.

I try to skip the "get an RDA" or "just get an X" type of posts now. When I first came to this forum, I was so confused...I pulled the trigger on an old fashioned (lol) kit that used the plastic tank with the puncture type atomizer. I was so proud of myself...only to read that I had got the "wrong" set up and that it would "mute" my flavors. "Mute the flavor" is now my LEAST favorite phrase to read.

I understand that everyone wants to help, but I almost cried...$50 for something I thought would be better than the Blus...it actually was a lot better than those, but I wanted to stop vaping just because some posters "laughed" at my choice.

I see it happening a lot in the "newbie" (another term I despise) forum. I sincerely believe that in the beginning of a vape journey, one should use the EASIEST, least expensive set up that works for them. It is hard enough to quit smoking without the added stress of reinventing the wheel.

Once a person is familiar with an easy device, it is less stressful to "advance" to other devices. We should be a kinder, more gentle Forum in the "New Members" Forum.

There are two kinds of people in this world...

--Those who answer the questions as posted
--Those who answer the questions the way they want to answer them

I really don't know what to say other than it has been this way since the beginning of time.

Don't forget about those who don't even really READ the question. This happens to me ALL THE TIME, even when I send a "help me" message to my server's tech support. Is literacy really too much to ask?

I can relate to all that; I got so tired of being told "just get ___" -- whatever it was; it was always the case that whatever I had wasn't right or good enough.

I got an eRoll when I started, because I *wanted* the familiar form factor, but I also wanted to choose my own flavors and be able to recharge my e-cig. And it worked, I quit smoking, but I did get pretty sick of the constant refilling and recharging because those things just don't have much capacity for juice of either kind, so I progressed naturally to the next thing, a nice slim lightweight but powerful iTaste vv3 -- then another -- then a removable battery mod so I have REAL staying power in the batteries, when I need it. But they're all good; the only thing I DON'T use anymore is the eRoll! :D

But I'd sure recommend it to any new vaper or vape-aspirant who insisted that the cigarette form factor was necessary -- for some, it really is, and it "gets them in the door" -- familiarity and greater understanding can do the rest.

I kind of like the term noob- hey I was a noob back in march. Maybe i still am, I'm still learning.
I try to give new vapors the advice I wish I would have received when I first started. I started back in October with a blu, then an eroll, then an ego, and another ego, and yet another ego. I was smoking the entire time I was helplessly searching for a PV that would satisfy me. Then in march I was going in for a major surgery where I wouldn't be able to get out the hospital bed for two weeks; so finding that PV they would work was a must do. Enter the MVP2- and it worked flawlessly. I quit and rewards myself with a provari and kfl I'm April when I hit my 30 day anniversary.
I was ripping through all the other stuff; because I was dumb and kept going to the same brick and mortar store and they didn't care enough to explain ANYTHING to me.
I finally found ecf and baditude took the time to break it all down and not once did he recommend anything to me until I finally asked.
Because of that whole expensive waste of time and money; when someone asks me what i think they should start with I tell them the MVP and an aerotank- together it's about 60 dollars; but, it lets the vapor taller every part of their vape. And it's a durable set up, huge battery capacity and in some cases they may never want an upgrade. There's no point in it for most average vapors.
Granted I only make that suggestion to someone who has no clue what they want. They don't know if they are going to like subohm vaping or high power yet. I get the cigalike form factor; I invested 90 dollars on blu and 90 on eroll to achieve that- could have gotten a provari with that money. I also through away 50 dollars a piece on the three egos- another provari. And all that before I bought clearos and coils.
I figure if a total noob can get started at 60 dollars is juice and they can tailer the performance of the PV- odds are they'll stick with it without wasting money or time, or frustration.

Although I'm still a newbie vaper, myself, whenever I offer assistance or make a recommendation to other vapers who ask for it, I always try to be careful to use the words "this works for me" or "this is what I like". And much of such commentary that I write is followed by "but many ECFers are much more experienced than I am, so I usually defer to one or more of them in cases of opposing opinions".

With objectivity, knowledge is king. With subjectivity, regard for others is king.

But from what I've seen since I've been an ECF member, I haven't observed many cases of rudeness or disregard when help or recommendations are offered. Hardly any, in fact. Maybe they occur more often in ECF sub-forums that I don't frequent. (I.e., every sub-forum other than this one and the New Members forum.)

Most rudeness - or accusations of rudeness - tend to fall into one of three categories: (1) The respondent meant to be rude, (2) the respondent was inadvertently rude or (3) the respondent wasn't particularly rude at all, but the person who asked for the help or recommendations may seem to be overly sensitive to the "tone" with which the response is written. I think the last of those instances is the rarest, but it can vary widely depending on the average maturity of the participants, the nature of the topic at hand, etc.

There are way too many factors to consider... emotional sensitivity, intelligence, emotional maturity, size of ego (the Freudian "ego", not the vaping one)... Then there's the catch-all explanation when trying to define human behavior: Everyone is different. I know, it's a cop out to even say it, but it does have the merit of truth.

Like everyone else, I think that I know rudeness when I see it. But I also know that I can be wrong. The culprit in most cases of actual rudeness in a response is the level of pride of the respondent. Leaving pride at the doorstep would prevent more "nastiness" than any other tactic, in my opinion.

Since somewhere in my mid-forties, my sense of personal pride has yielded more and more to a sense of magnanimity. It's not that I'm no longer proud of myself, it's just that I believe I've learned how to recognize and avoid rudeness in my responses. Most of the time, anyway.

I wouldn't presume to say everyone should offer help the way I do. All I can say is that it works for me. :)

See I hate NOOB much worse than Newbie. In many place on the net (particularly gaming) a Newbie is a new person, a NOOB is an idiot.

Lol, I'm not that bright; lmao

I see it as a term of endearment. When I first started doing body work, I was a noob. When I first started the electrical engineering program in college, i was a noob. I've never been into the gaming thing, or forum thing for that matter. So
I've never seen it used in a negative way; just a way to identify someone new to some activity; hence they may need additional help and knowledge.

Agree.

And that simple device can serve as backup later down the road.

For me nothing ws simpler than a ego type batt w/clearomizer. 1,000s have started that way

Then I got a small bottom feeder and that was "it" for me.
