It’s been a while since I’ve kept up with the starter kit scene and can’t find anything relevant for 2015. Someone I work with wants to get started and I am trying to decide which way to point her. I’ve been looking at the Ego One and the Aspire Premium Kit. I’m also thinking maybe a subtank mini with something like the istick but I’ve never used the subtank so I can’t vouch for how it is with mouth-to-lung vaping. Any advice?

Considerations

· No replaceable battery (don’t want to have to jump down that rabbit hole yet)
· Ability to carry extra batteries (I think it’s important during the transition to not run out of batteries on the go but not 100% on this because something like the Coolfire IV looks good with plenty of headroom. )
· Easy to use and maintain
· Not have to upgrade immediately like many of us did (...evod)
· Price (though I’m willing to recommend more cash up front to get a setup that will last)

Up until I got my first 30watt istick I would have recommended a couple of Vision Spinners. Now though, I think the 30watt istick is a perfect beginner battery but it depends on what form factor she is interested in. For a topper I would think a protank mini or something along those lines. I enjoy evod glass or mini trophy tanks myself. Both are glass so tank cracker juice isn't a problem.

Are evod's and protanks really still the best choices? I'm not saying they weren't good in their day but how do they compare with these newer clearos like the subtank, delta II, melo, etc.? These subtanks seem ideal for a new vaper right? Anyone have an opposite opinion?

Thanks for the heads up with the Ego One. Leaking is a definite no go. The last thing I want is for her to have problems and give up.

Oh ok. Does it regulate the voltage [i.e. lock it in to ~3.7 until it's dead] or is it straight from the battery?

No, you were correct, the Ego One is an unregulated device with protections. It is still a nice device (no leaks on mine and I take it everywhere).

The new Subox mini is a viable option so long as you ensure a suitable 18650 (or two) is also purchased. The new subtank mini heads include a 1.5ohm version suitable for mouth to lung hits, and it has an easy rba deck if they decide to try that route in the future.

The eGo/EVOD setup is still around for a reason, but I have to admit that the iStick/Nautilus combo is pretty tough to argue with. Unless someone was stuck on the form-factor of a pen-style, a 30W battery and a tank with prebuilt and rebuildable platform options is beginner-friendly with tons of room for low-/no-cost growth.

Another Istick30 and Nautilus recommendation here. Portable power sources are cheap and small so I cannot recommend a specific one. I have portable solar I can charge my Istick 50w on. Not why I bought the solar but it would do it.

I bought the 15W version to charge my phone when hiking. You hang it on the back of your pack. Also you can lay it in your car to charge the Istick or battery. It charges pretty good through glass.

Spend the $$$ and get a higher wattage portable charger. Then you can use it for a lot of things. You still need to have your charging cord.

I use the Istick50W at 18W and it lasts for days but due to the problems others have had I cannot recommend it. Mine is fine after four months perhaps I was lucky or it just hasn't gone yet?
