Hi Dave! Besides what you just wrote, I hope you're doing well. You might consider ditching the Prilosec (it's not really intended for long-term use). Something I ran across recently had me going..."hmmmm....".
On a side note, bout 8 years ago I had intense upper abdominal pain in the middle of the night that brought me to the ER. It started as what I thought was gas, but it just kept getting worse until I was laying in the fetal position and could barely get out of bed. In the ER, they said it could be either my gallbladder or an ulcer but didn't think it was serious enough to do an MRI since my bloodwork looked OK. So they gave me Rx strength Prilosec for 2 weeks. It helped. I have had ulcers in the past.
As to what I recently discovered, many if not most people who are labeled with GERD actually have a problem with not enough stomach acid, not too much. Same symptoms for both, but if you don't make enough acid, then Prilosec WILL make it worse. It's fairly common with hypothyroidism, and so I take Apple Cider Vinegar tablets 2x a day with a meal. It seems to really settle my stomach (I also sometimes have trouble digesting my food) and I'm finding after doing this for several months most of my stomach trouble and occasional heartburn is relieved. Have a look here and see if this sounds like you.
