I haz a sad. :(

I dropped my provari with my version 1 Russian 91% on it and the clear section shattered. Big boo boo and I don't have another clear section. Bah wah wa....

My brand new hardwood is buckling up. Contractor says it is humidity. I have a friend going to recommend a Nashville flooring expert to come out and access the damage and tell us a solution. Contractor does not know what to do. I have just learned that we need to wrap the crawl space below the house in rubber sheeting or something like that. And I think the contractor put just brown paper under the hardwood but he said it was vapor barrier. I am beyond sad. I am quite angry. DH is ready to go through the roof. Hope he does not because we do not need another thing to fix. lol Did I tell you guys that the new refrigerator is going back because the icemaker was shooting ice 4 to 6 feet across the kitchen, more than went into any glass or 2 qt pitcher. We are getting another brand at end of month.

This is the never ending kitchen remodel. We have not even started the living room yet. Bah and Ugh!!!

Oh, and my Provari Mini survived the drop just fine (just one scratch) but it took me quite a bit of thought and finagling to get the remains of the clear section off the r91 but I got it!

Oh Gods!!

Total nightmare. Do you still have q dripper or something that will work for you?

If not I'm sending you a Kayfun 3.1 post haste!

Have you checked for replacement tank sections online... plastic preferred?

Well, my friends, I have been meaning to respond to all the fun action in thread since I posted last, but just been so busy and so very very tired.

But I did want to at least give an update.

So it has been a busy busy week (month, year, whatever) but this week I have been really busting bum.
But my sleep hasn't quite been what it should. Broken sleep, wake up tired. For my whole life, this hasn't been an issue. If I have broken sleep, wake up tired, that usually means I just pass out hard the next night.

Not the case lately, for some odd reason.
The last few nights it seems the more tired I am, the less I am able to sleep. (Not to make a correlation to those two things, just the fact they are happening together.)
Last night, after a few broken nights, was the worst.
I was a zombie today. But work needed to get done, and I got it done.

So trying to spray a sealer out of my airless sprayer. Airless is giving me trouble. Day is getting away from me, getting anxious.
Tired, anxious and guess what?
My WTA runs out.
On my break I send a message to wholecig, "wholecig, Y U NO give me tracking info? Where are my stuffs?"
Get a prompt response reminding me that they are going through some company overhaul and orders are going to take 7-12 days to get out at this time. (Yay for prompt response, but only been four days since I ordered.)
Plus my gear isn't set up the way I want (I know, I know, whahhh, excuses excuses). This wasn't a big one, but with everything else the last thing you want to do (or have time to do, in my case today) is get your stuff resetup for best comfort.

So for the last half of the day, I have been in a slip. Really smoking more than vaping. But I am not worried.
In fact, I am a bit encouraged that WTAs are helping me more than I realized. All day was really craving anways, and what WTA I had left today at least got me through the first half of the day smoke free.
And my order will come soon,
And I will get back on full track.
And tomorrow is my resetup day (since I am off)

So all is well, but I wanted to give y'all an update. Will have to have a new "quit" date. Darn, I was almost a full seven days.
Also, before I found vaping, I tried cold turkey. And I found a support group that talked about the seventh day craving spike. So dont know how much that may have played into it too

atleast you got the remains off!

did your russian not come with a metal tank part to use until you can get a new clear part? my russian91 came with a metal tank section..?

I would love to try it. If it is the equivalent of 25ga kanthal, will I be able to make a coil that will fit in my r91 and be 1.2ohms or above for my provari? What would I be looking at around a 1.5mm rod, 5 or 6 wraps? Or do I not know what I am talking about, which is a distinct possibility. Even if it would not work with the r91 I do have an Igo-L and another dripper I could try it in, I think.

What is so good about it over kanthal?

Shari,

Sorry to hear about your kitchen. That really bites!

I wanted to try the titanium for a couple of reasons:
a) It's completely non-reactive to the human body, which means it should have no taste and be completely safe.
b) It has a very high corrosion resistance so it should last a very long time.
c) Because you can get a much smaller diameter wire that runs at the same power (i.e. 30-Ga titanium compared to 25-ga Kanthal) you should
be able to make a coil that heats up much faster. (For cloud-chasers you should also be able to make a coil that concentrates heat in a much smaller area).
It also has a higher melting point than either Kanthal or Nichrome (1668 deg C vs 1400 for Nichrome and 1200-1400 for Kanthal).

It has some other interesting properties (which I discovered fiddling around with it). I will do a writeup of my experiences later today. Need to verify a few of my observations so I'm not just "blowing smoke"!

I'll send you a sample.

OK Shari, for you and everyone else out there who "doesn't know" I'm going to put my blog on hold and wait on a rebuild to explain the most important thing in rebuilding to you.

Bear with me for a bit while I get some pics together and I will be back.

Never again guess at your coil and know what it will be (within a few tenths of an ohm) before you even cut the wire.

Hello my EFC fams! I am still holding strong at 5-6 smokes a day. Just got my kayfun rebuilt, first coil build was a bust.... second coil build I am almost happy with it is at 1.4 and i think that maybe a little high for me. but do have a question (and i may need to check out the rest of EFC) but it whistles, any tricks to stop that?

andria congrats on the 4 weeks

noobbuilder grsts on the 7 weeks

tim making me think I really want some WTA for my final push to quit!

OK folks, I'm not an expert by any means, but I have got to say something after what I saw on another forum (a guy wanting to sub-ohm and asking for cloud builds without having an ohm meter or multimeter) and seeing things like Shari just asked (about building with the Ti wire for her ProVari, no offence intended) I just have to explain how to calculate wire length for resistance and to control what's going on before you even get started.

So here we go:

Kanthal (Nichrome, the above mentioned titanium) is a resistance wire, meaning it resists the flow of electricity. When it does this, it converts that electrical energy into light and heat... and with ejuice and a wick, vapor. *grin*

So, here is the simplest way to know for sure what your resistance will be: measure your wire (to the 1/16"). Every gauge of wire as its own resistance and is clearly listed online (see temco http://www.temcoindustrialpower.com/product_selection.html?p=kanthal_a1 for more complete info) but here is a general listing of resistance per inch of the most commonly used sizes for vaping.

22ga(.64mm) - 0.109 ohms/in
24ga(.51mm) - 0.173 ohms/in
26ga(.40mm) - 0.276 ohms/in
28ga(.32mm) - 0.439 ohms/in
29ga(.29mm) - 0.546 ohms/in
30ga(.25mm) - 0.697 ohms/in
32ga(.20mm) - 1.091 ohms/in
34ga(.16mm) - 1.758 ohms/in
36ga(.13mm) - 2.783 ohms/in

And yes, I listed the metric diameter because many suppliers list it on the packaging as well as the AWG (American Wire Gauge) and because we have overseas folks here too. The higher gauge wires (34 and up) are normally used in rebuilding atomizer heads, like those used in protanks and the larger diameter wires are mostly used in low ohm and sub-ohm vaping as they have more room in the build area and they are looking for lower resistance.

************

Now, let's get a bit creative and build something just to show we can prove what we just learned... OK?

Lets go with Shari's example, a 1.2 ohm coil on a 2mm (1.98mm or 1/16" is a true microcoil). Now, since this is going on her Russian 91%, we have some room to work with in terms of wire but we're going to use 28ga for this example.

Looking at the chart above you see that 28ga wire has a resistance of 0.439 ohms/in, and that means that all we have to do is divide the resistance we want by the natural resistance of the wire (1.2÷0.439=2.73in or 69mm). For those of you with Vapers Toolbox on Android, it should read 2 5/8" and those on computer can check Steam Engine (http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp) will see 67mm. The calculator method isn't perfect, but being slightly *high* in resistance is always better than being slightly low.

So, grab your 28ga wire and your cutting tool of choice and measure out about 3 1/4"(77mm). The extra length is for the leads to the posts and so you have some room to work with on the last wrap.

Now let's wrap that baby and start blowing clouds! Hang on just a second... got everything you need, including something to test that new coil? A regulated mod that can test resistance is OK, but if you are going to start playing around or are using a mechanical mod take the time to get a multimeter (about $20 @ Walmart) and learn to use it.

Now we can wrap that rascal!

Grab your precision screwdriver/drill bit/Allen wrench/coiling jig and let's get to work. Leave about a quarter inch of a lead on the coil (the coil jig will take care of that for you as you trap the wire) and give it 8 wraps. Be sure to leave the leads on opposite sides because of the atty its going on, an RDA would have them on the same side (thus the 8/7 wrap).

Now all you have to do is mount and test your new coil. If it reads 1.2 ohms, or close to it, you're good to go. If not, let's figure out why.

Are your screws tight, did you wrap it on the right size mandrel, was the wire the right gauge & length? If all the answers are yes then you should be within a few tenths of an ohm, if you are way off that mark you may want to start over.

A more in-depth coil wrapping tutorial with many more views will be on my PIF thread for rebuildables http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13941605 and on my ECF blog... with many many pictures!

My man, I wish I had this when I started. Had to bumble through certain things early on. Not because information wasn't out there. Not that I didn't know where to go to find it. But didn't know all the right questions to ask, if that makes sense. This beginners tutorial is already looking good.
