"Cloud chasing" is a misnomer. Some people just like a lot of vapor. A lot of people who claim to believe "to each their own" sure have a hard time understanding that.

Cloud-chasers are very real - some of them even identify with the phrase themselves.

I bet you are a lot of fun at parties...

Two examples (of many) before you ask.

It is a misnomer, anecdotes are not probative. The vast majority of uses here are pejorative, the suggestion being these people are foolish. That is a misnomer.

How could it possibly be a misnomer when the very people that identify themselves with that group use the name themselves?

I'm beginning to think you might not know what you are talking about.

Again, anecdotes are not probative. And in one of your examples, it was being used pejoratively. That you missed that illustrates clearly who knows what they are talking about.

I need to know what those wheels are made from. They look like mini pecan pies, but I think I see bacon around the outside.

Any clues?

They are wrapped bacon, the center parts are pieces cut out. Long before it was a fad (I'm talking 1980s), I made meat art (although what I used wasn't cooked).

LOL, so that's what we are calling it now - "meat art"

It's been around for a long time. Meat is a powerful metaphor.

ETA: These are a couple of my sculptures
