Quite honestly, I love the simplistic look. Besides that, the weight and capacity are the real winners in my book, especially when compared to the KF4. But, to each his own. :toast:

I actually prefer the black delrin stock drip tip when mounted on my black Flasks and think it is the perfect look.

Naaa... it looks too girly and that inner curve of the tip gives it a kind of retro look from the 70's. strait clean metal drip tip for me :)

Tony

No offense by me, as you said it's all opinion. The "incomplete"ness of it is what I personally like, it's clean and simple looking. The few parts are amazingly made and finished, no frills. V4 is the epitome of Germany though, robust looking, solid, and technical...ready to invade countries lol. Both nice, but very diff.

I do think the Erlk needs to be seen and held to appreciate it looks better filled but still a plain looking for a pic.

I love how this conversation has remained very "room temperature" all because everyone is stating their OPINIONS, and we all know it...
Gosh, why can't ALL vape convos go this way???
[emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]

Thanks for the picture! It gives me a great angle to point out what it is that bothers me about the aesthetics of the Erl...

First and foremost, that bottom cap thing...with the weird ridges on it...totally disrupts the connection to the mod for me. I like a clean, almost transition-less connection...like the KF4 with a P3 or SM adapter.
Secondly, and this is if they cleaned up the bottom cap, I can't stand the funky looking top cap. I understand it serves a functional purpose, but why can't it look incognito?
The center part is too Kayfun-esque for me to really pick apart, cuz let's face it...all RTA's are gonna have some kind of chimney.
I just wish they'd smooth out those end-cap-type sections, and make it more hybrid looking. But I also understand that it IS a -different- looking atty, and therein lies the attraction for some. At least it's not like the Nautilus/Atlantis line, with their super outdated knurling around the base...ugh, Aspire really shot themselves in the foot there!
Again, all my own opinions, and ignorance too! Not stated to offend anyone, just stated to participate in a healthy conversation!
I've never held/operated an Erl in person, and many people say that pictures really do the Erl no justice...I'm fine with that. I've seen plenty of gorgeous mods/atties take god-awful pictures, so I can understand that it may be something I missing from a hands-on experience.

I would say the erlk has more of a German and the v4 a Russian design.

I love the erlk also for its clean looking sleek design. The stock drip tip ruins the visual but the strait metal tip gives it a modern look. :)

Tony

Sent from my keyboard through my phone or something like that.

Thinking about it more, I see your point. I will change my opinion though, as I've been to many countries, the V4 in many ways looks very American in design. We tend to be more rotund than others lol.

That drip tip adaptor certainly looks better IMO than the standard drip tip. As does the clear tank over the SS or frosted.
I'm with you 100% HB about the top and bottom. Are the top and bottom sections 20mm while the tank section is 21mm? I'd personally like it better if the finish was brushed instead of matte, too. Though I certainly don't think the Erlk is ugly; I just think it could do with a cosmetic upgrade.

Though I'll still have a look on the classifieds for a used one. That, a Dominus Lochaber, and maybe another KF4 will complete the toppers that I'd like.

This thread is good. I'm getting a bit tired of clone haters being antagonistic elsewhere.

On topic:
Love the V4. The JC is really flippin ingenious. NEVER have to worry about leaking juice in my pocket with it or anywhere else for that matter.

Off topic:
Love the Erlk too. Got four of em. Capacity and ease of refill is the bomb. Wicking is another story. Its by no means difficult but way more touchy than a Kayfun.

I agree HB, it's nice to have a civil discussion when we are only expressing our opinions.

Quite honestly, when I got my first Erl, I didn't quite like the bottom either as I like a flush fit like you. I understood its purpose and the reason for it. Because of the flavor that I get off of it, the base has come to grow on me.

Now, on the other hand, I kind of always liked the top piece. I think it has a decent form and function.

To me, the Erl kind of has a rocketship look.

Oh yeah, if you're not a fan of the Erlkonigin, I'm sure you really don't like the Erlthron.

I have ordered one of them as well. :D

Incidentally, I'm rocking that crown tip on the Erl I brought to work today and think it adds to the look of the top cap.

guys, I just realized something...

I'm subscribed to this thread since the beginning, I have made several posts and... I don't actually own a Kayfun V4? What the hell am I doing here?!

Tony <- thinks he's crazy :D

Me too Tony. I was just interested in the K4 seeing I have owned two authentic KFLs for a long time. I did not purchase a new K4 determining that the experience was not worth $180 per K4 to replace my KFLs. That view has not changed.

Yes but over the course of time, I started to feel at home here and today, I suddently noticed the thread title and thought "What the heck? I don't own a V4?!" LOL :)

The Erlk may be the one I like the least for looks, but I love the vape. And its very conservative on juice, and has a large capacity without being large. Its one I take with me if I'm going to be gone all day. On the other hand, the k4 is kind of a juice pig even with a single coil.

I'm just sucking down the juice at 0.6ohms!
Lucky it's so easy to fill or I wouldn't be happy.

Bronze, if you prefer KFL's to 3.1's, you may not find the upgrade to KF4's worth it. Though you could always buy second hand, or a clone, and re sell if you end up not liking the KF4. I would't let my 3.1's go for more KF4's; I see advantages and disadvantages in each.

Incidently, how much do both wattage and coil size effect a coils ramp up time? Ie, could one say that a 7 wrap 0.9ohm coil at 20W would heat up 50% faster than one of 9 wraps 1.2ohms at 15W because of the 30% more power and 20% shorter length?

It's been mostly good. I have 4 clones and am happy with them so far.

I didn't think it was worth it either so I ordered a clone to try out. Ran into a few issues that were easily fixed and now have 4. I have mixed feelings about the functional design. I LOVE the top filling feature as you don't need any special tips but the spring that carries current is a pretty big fail. Not as much of an issue with kanthal but with nickel, it can be an issue especially if you open and close the JC a lot. I'm moving to DNA40 devices so it matters to me. It's worth dealing with for a $20 atomizer but not a $180 one.

Wait! That's it! The KFL thread was being bombed by anti clone guys some time ago and I was sick of it so I unsubscribed and kept this as my only connection to Kayfun owners!

Am I developing Alzheimer or just excess cheese consumption?

Yep, I'm on the fence on this one, too, as far as do I want the authentic. One of my clones has had no issues of any kind. It just works perfectly. And I'm vaping high vg as well without issue. The other needed a lot of work, but it is working. The previous kayfuns were priced so one could own an authentic. This one is pretty steep although quite a bit of work went into it. However, that's also what bugs me. Its a pain to break down and reassemble. I have several other attys that vape as well or better that are much simpler.

I for one, am glad I got the Authentic after having a POS counterfeit. HUGE difference in all the moving parts and pieces actually working. With that said, still a learning curve for me getting the wick/builds just right to avoid dry hits.

Great tip I did read through the threads (thx MTek!) is twisting open slightly the drip tip area, quickly, with the JC open to kinda force the bubbles/wicking and problem solved.

Once I get through this tank, I will look at my build/wick again and see what I may have done wrong to avoid dry hits and not have to open the top cap in the future. I'm thinking my wicks are a tad too long but not sure. How high or low should the coil sit to the deck for the best results?
