One thing I've noticed, everyone I know who got tobacco flavors kept smoking. Everyone who got just anything besides tobacco transitioned over. Granted, that's a limited group of about 20, but it's held true for all.

Perhaps the sample is too small. I personally like to vape Cowboy at 24mg which is supposedly a tobacco flavor (though actually it tastes far better than any cigarette or pipe I've ever had--its not really very "tobaccoey" IMO). That said I am also still experimenting with flavors too, I recently got some Papa Smurf (Flavorz by Joe). It tasted like a blueberry toaster strudel to me, and I'm planning on getting a couple more flavors this next week.

I also have a juice that tastes very similar to a fresh pack of Winston Select cigarettes (my #2 brand when I smoked cigarettes after Camel). Its an 18mg and satisfies my nic needs but I find I'm moving away from that flavor.

Of course this could also just be a case of "Abe is weird".

It took me 5-1/2 months after 50 years, but I wanted to take it at my pace. I think what helped the most was progressing to a good (and expensive) Advanced Personal Vaporizer (APV). It was so easy and hassle free to carry a pack of cigs and a lighter, so the easier and hassle free the device, the easier it was for me to quit and I settled on REO's (bottom feeders).

It's a long time ago but I'd say that I immediately transferred from smoking to vaping.
I liked vaping better than cigarettes. Cold Turkey implies that you are denying yourself.

I've always looked at it like I've switched from one to another because I like it better and it makes sense.

Of course I always vaped High Nic e-liquid, it might have been different if I began with wimp low mg.

Look around for an ego type batt, some vendors have them up to 1300mah wich should last all day. If uou decide to go with a twist 1000mah I highly recomend to get a back up so that if your batt dies you dont find yourself looking for an anolog. My transition took 2 days, bought a cheap ecig batt with prefilled cartos and the first day I would use that mainly and switch to an anolog when the battery died. By the second day anologs just tasted gross and by the end of the week I went and bought a twist because the little guy wasn't keeping up. Now I have a tesla and multiple tanks and rba's so for me its turned into a hobby.

I'm not sure what gave me the strength to quit. I had tried several times over a 45+ year habit.

My wife had a growing concern of having to go on alone after my passing so maybe that helped. I have always promised I would take care of her.
I did a lot of research on ways to quit, mostly getting the same old facts and information. I did discover a natural medicine used in EU since the 60's that has a very high success rate. Unfortunate ordering only thinned my wallet by $35 - never received anything.

By Aug.6th I received my first e-cig kit(junk as it may have been) and at 8:30p.m. I put out my last analog.
It took me all of 1 day to realize it was the Nicotine I needed and not a cig. and it only took 2 days t orealize this kit would not do the job.
Anyway, 6 months later I still have no desire to smoke, but I have $$$ worth of new toys to keep me amused and Vaping.

Does anyone else find this is a problem? I started vaping RY4 and Clove juice with an old 901 from china before it was a "thing" here in the states and quit cigarettes successfully on it for 6 months until I lost my 901. I went back to "analogs"... (is this the right word for tobacco cigs? I'm still new to the group.)

Now I'm looking to quit again and upgrade, the lady in me really wants a slim style or 510 but I think moving up to a clearomizer(?) with Ego-type battery is a better choice as it is farther away from the look and feel of cigarettes and battery life is longer, Juice refill is slower. I just can't picture vaping "grape" or something like this all day.

5 minutes after my first vape i crushed the pack of Marlboro reds i had on me and never bought another one.

Its been 10-11 months since.

Sure there were times i got cravings but you just gotta have the will power to say Ill Use this instead. and the cravings went away.

I did try an analog 4 months later and it almost made me gag. Don't understand how i managed to smoke that crap for over 15 years...

Well, this is encouraging! I am trying to quit cigs right now. I smoke(d) 2 to 2-1/2 packs a day of full flavor menthol cigs. I've tried just about every method to quit that I could find, including all the prescription medications, but have ben unable to find anything that helps. I had even tried an e-cig a few years back, but I had a bad experience with it. It was the Pro Smoke, and it never really worked right, so eventually I packed it all up and sent it back to them for a refund. Recently, money has become a serious issue for me, and I have been spending 300-400 dollars a month on cigarettes! So, I started doing some reading online, and found several sites with information about assembling your own e-cig. I have put together a nice 510 e-cig using cartomizers. It's good, but I keep thinking it good get better, so I have an eGo on the way to me in the mail. I'm down to just over a pack a day atm. I had no idea where to start with e-juice nicotine content, so I started with the 12mg, then went to 18mg, and today I got my first bottle of 24mg. The 24mg seems much more satisfying to me, and so far today I have only smoked 3 cigarettes since I juiced up the first cartomizer with it and started vaping. That was 5 hours ago, so having only smoked 3 real cigs iss really great for me! I don't know, but I am hoping that with the eGo and the 24mg e-juice, I can just flat-out quit. For now, if I can keep it at 1 pack or less, I figure that's pretty good. :)

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post! It's nice to read what others have gone thru trying to make the switch. I'm going to read on and see what others are saying. Congrats on quitting though!!

Here's my story... I started vaping on a cheap e-cig from the liquor store a few months ago because I had a ton of work to do at work and couldn't take my normal smoke breaks. I went home fell asleep and went at it again the next day. Sometime around lunch someone asked me when was the last time I smoked an analog cigarette was and I realized it had been over 24 hours. I started to panic a little cause I just realized I went a whole 24 plus hours without an analog and felt great but I thought what if I start craving an analog because the cheap e-cig might die or start losing it's kick or something. I ran out and bought an APV that night and here I am today. I admit that I took a hit on three separate occasions to see if an analog was as good as I thought it was and to my amazement I gagged and was totally grossed out. What was I thinking?

I guess I am one of the lucky ones that started and never really looked back. I see people planning on how to get started on vaping and quit smoking but to me it's like planning on having kids, it never really works out as planned.

Just start vaping now and put some effort into kicking the analogs to the curb is what I tell people that are thinking about it or planning to quit smoking.

So I'm a "cold turkey" kind of guy lol!

Same here, I had a battery go dead at work after vaping for about a month and I got desperate and smoked one from a co-worker. Nasty...just nasty. It's crazy how much your tastbuds change. I also realized that I didn't mentally crave cigs anymore....my mind had associated my nic. craving with vapor.

It happens all the time. Just put as much effort into the quiting-side as you can. Keep busy and realize how bad it smells on you as well. Basically it makes you stink too. I haven't had a single person stare at me all crazy like anymore because when I walk into a room I stink of cigarettes.

Keep up the good work! You will get there if you want to.

I transitioned for about 1 month. What I needed was a confidence that the ecig replacement would work. So I was 50 / 50 for about 4-5 weeks. Then I figured the the ecigs were just as good at satisfying my urges and I had a little ceremony. I went to the park and tossed all my real cigs in the trash. This was important to me. I needed to say "get lost I'm done with your cr*p" to the cigs.

See I am weak. I was afraid of the pain I had heard from everyone about how hard it was to stop smoking. I'm a wuss. Once I learned that the ecig were just as good, or even better I was done.

It was easy. Never had a bit of withdrawals. None, Nada, Nope.

I started with a KR8 and immediately dropped all but the last cigarette before bed and the first cigarette with morning coffee. Just didn't miss the 28 cigarettes I used to have in between, but also just couldn't get rid of those 2 pesky ones. Bought an eGo with a clearomizer as a step up and poof! the last 2 cigarettes dissappeared. Still use both kits -- eGo for at home, KR8 when not at home. I think it's more luck than science and depends on the individual -- the right equipment with the right juice in the right strength for that particular person and it's easy, wrong equipment or juice or strength for that particular person and it's difficult.
