Im sure DrG will be here soon enough to blame it on me and explain that its my incompetent use of the device ;) but oh well... I can only describe what I've encountered...

So your DNA40 is a PITA and you can see the future. Well at least you've got one thing going for you.

If you get the chance try a spaced 6 wrap on a 3mm bit space of 24 TI, it will give you about .21Ω. Sorry to hear about your chip, if it makes you feel any better I had three go bad but I know better now, the Dr told me I didn't know what I was doing either :)

I'm such a fool.

The Hana box I built is the best of the bunch, only had to send back two chips to get one that's working but I can solder like a Pro now.

I've preorded this one through Varitube. If this gives me similar ergonomics & vape to the ipv mini II (yihi SX330V2C) with the benefits of temp control I'm in!!!

I'm assuming I'll have to learn nickel builds to get the benefits of Temp control. Learning to build all over again...gotta luv this pastime!!! :)

All I can say is good luck with nickel. I have seen one site say that the Mclass will work with nichrome if thats true then I'm in. I have a DNA40 and nickel SUCKS

SXmini M Class Temperature Control Video[

I'm seeing smoke and discoloration of the cotton - looks pretty 'burny' to me.
Don't get me wrong - I'm one of Evolv's 'beta testers' too. My DNA worked at one point but now it does exactly what it wants to - randomly jumps out of temp, jumps in to temp with Kanthal - PITA.

*edit*

When I said I was a beta tester I meant that as far as I'm concerned, anyone that has purchased a DNA 40 on it's own or in a mod - got a device that wasn't ready to be marketed.

Sorry to upset the 40 "fanboys" but I've had three DNA 40's fail on me, the particular board I'm using right at the moment is in the process of flaking out after working properly for two months.

It's not acceptable in my opinion

If thats as "burny" as it gets I am ok with that because I wont be vaping with dry cotton just like any of you will. I get maybe a couple slightly dry hits a day, I can tell by the change in temp and flavor when I need to drip. This will do me fine.

I've had 3 dna40's and all 3 have been RMA'ed.
Still my favorite vape is TP mode with Ni200 just because I vape so damn much (3-5mg nic) that my lungs need the TP; its like insurance.

I vape my TP mode at 450 to 460 (20 to 40w) just to ensure I get lots of vapor (and I also get optimal flavor), so yeah my coil/wick will gunk and burn a bit requiring changing every couple days vs. dry burning a kanthal coil, for lots of re-runs but invariably with kanthal, there's no protection.

Regardless of how fine you want to tune your straight-up watt/volts with kanthal, you still don't have that protection, and you are going to get some lung scorchers imo.

I started out with 30g Ni200, and found that spaced coils are much more consistent than compact micro's.
28g will give you a little warmer vape, but I found it seems to be more finicky for some reason and you've got to get more wraps on there too.

Life would be easier if kanthal were applicable, but its worth it to me to fiddle a little more.

I also find that with my TP vaping, you need really good wicking to keep that juice heavy in the coil. i like RTA's for flavor and I like ones that will allow you to top off through the d/t to keep things intense (flavor-vapor).

I'm kinda glad I didn't pre order because I have an SX mini and a DNA40 and if it is just another Nickel requiring mod I can get a really good box mod for a lot less money, I really don't care for nickel. It's hard to work with, coils don't last that long and actually easier to replace then to try to clean I guess if you are into changing out your coil every 2-3 days tops, I'm not, but to each his own. I think they will eventually come up with something that uses a better type of wire that lasts and works as good as Kanthal but for the time being unless this thing works with nichrome I'm not interested. I'm sure I will hear plenty about it after it finally hits the market. I will be very interested in Busardos review of it he will really get into the workings of it. Don't get me wrong I love my SXmini S class and my DNA40 which is one of the best box mods I own for Kanthal but nickel is not my bag, I have tried twisted 32,28, 29tempered and 30 all do the same, start out great last from a couple of hours to the best I've had 3 days before they went wonky on me. I got into vaping because I enjoy it but I don't enjoy having to rebuild all the time.

OK thanks Marc I wonder if they will trade 5 rolls of various size nickel for it LOL I have read about that before and was kinda wondering about the health risks like I should give a damn after smoking heavy for 45 years.

Just like Ni don't pulse the coils when they are dry.

Do a search of the member named Rossum and titanium, it's very educational. I've been using Ti based on my research, my wire has never seen temps over 350° so I am not worried. The Ti is so much nicer to work with and vapes great. Rossums favorite is twisted 30ga three wires which I also enjoy.

a little help here:
what are the settings going to be like?
I mean if you compare it to the DNA40 readout, what should we set the temp at ... is it F or C or J?

Do we have to prepare for a whole different scenario or could one just use their experience with the DNA40 and have at it?

Will it have similar single button and 2 up/down buttons?

thanks

I'm curious about the Joules mode. I wonder how that works and what your settings would be. Will it come with a guide written in Chinglish.

I've got one coming, but i'm thinking... "what the hell am I doing?"
I've got no problems with DNA40... its my favorite, but all that info in this SXMini M Class... its just not my style.
I seem to have dyslexia when it comes to technical things and especially instructions.
I'm hoping it will be intuitive enough. lol.

Will have to give the Ti wire a try... thanks for the link Marc411

I just ordered from Amazon, but had to get the one that was 50 ft! for the same price.
The original one linked was for like 16ft ... Grade1 .50 mm

ukeman, I think that you will be pleasantly surprised by how consistent Ti is and how building will become so much easier. You can go back to trapping legs under screws without worrying as much about them snapping and refinement is minimal. 5 or 6 wraps spaced is a walk in the park.

And like you I have a couple DNA's that work well since moving to Ti but I still want a M class Mini.

It's a sickness :)

24ga and triple twist 30ga are my two preferred. Try to find DIY jewelry websites. It's used a lot for folks with jewelry allergies.

This is another source: Pure Titanium Wire

Ralph carries all gauges and may ship international. The spools are small so if you are interested I may be able to work with you via Paypal, toss stamps on a package and send it on it's way. Let me know.

Many thanks for that!

I can get 50ft of 24g on amazon uk for £13 or so. With international shipping that is about the same as it would cost from Ralph. No higher gauges available though....Looking at steam engine looks like 9 wraps around 2mm mandrel of 24g should come in at 0.2ohms. Does that sound right to you??

cheers

steve

Is 28 g Ti wire viable for our purposes?

It is, some folks are doing a 2 strand twist and love it. I have some 28ga and like it but the 24 is just some damn easy to work with that it's my go to.

Steve, that sounds about right. I use a 3mm and six wraps gives me .21Ω consistently in my drippers, a little higher in my K4. I use the 3mm because the wicking and flavor for me is better. Other then the Taifun and the Aqua 2 a 3mm works in just about all my toppers
