I haven't personally worked with Ni200 wire yet but from what I've read it's temperamental and requires a lot more attention to contact points than other wires. If it were mine I would clean all the contacts on the 510 and make sure the positive pin protruded enough to make a good solid connection and I would make certain that screws holding the coil were good and tight. I know Rip recommended grub screws on one of his videos. I may be wrong but I think some of the problem comes in when the wire heats up and expands & contracts when it cools back down. I've seen some contact coils being used with Ni200 but if I were having problems I would make sure each coil was not making contact with any others. Hope that helps.
Hardened ni200 is a different animal. It will bite you if you show it your pliers or cutters [emoji14]

Now seriously, it's much easier to work with that stuff. 28g hardened ni 200 is harder than kanthal of the same width. Only catch is that when you cross it's limits, it will snap sooner than kanthal and after a week in use, ni 200 is much more brittle and less user friendly at cleaning and rewicking than kanthal.

More than once did I want to rewick and just adjust a little bit the used coil and... snap... There goes the coil :s

I have a single 28g ni200 coil in my fogger v4.4 right now, it was a bit tricky to get the wicking down so it wouldn't gurgle / leak, but its good now. I can post a pic of the build if you want.

STmini works well, I think I did 10-12 wraps of 28g on a 3mm bit. Super easy to capture and secure the leads on that one, way easier than some of my RDAs that like to eat ni200 coils when I tighten down too much.

No need for pics. I'm giving all 3 of my Foggers to my wife. I'm loving the Subtank mini's and received a second one yesterday. So the Foggers will go to her and she's very casual so I wont have to build them very often. :) I'll try a 12 wrap when the wire arrives. What joules / temp are you using with the Subtank with those wraps?

My m-class is still in the mail, heh, estimated to be delivered today, but I don't think thats happening. On the DNA 40 I've been using 23-25W and 410-430F depending on the juice, but I have no idea how that translates to the SX350J.

Its just a simple single coil 16 wrap build. I have to modify the wire a tad by making 2 80 degree bends because the amount of wraps pushes way past the positive post. The build stretches the entire deck. I almost feel like buying a Hobo or something similar with 4 posts but after $200 in juice and $200 for this mod....

I just built another 16-18 wrap and it came out to be .126. I waited 2 minutes and re registered the resistance again and it showed up .007. The .007 stays on the mod for awhile so I just lock the device then unlock it to get off that screen. It did the .007 through three cycles of locking and unlocking. Then I turned the device off completely then back on and .126.

Getting quite a headache and before I go to work I leave with dual kanthal coil builds instead of how finnicky this nickel is working for me.

It sounds like it may be a intermittent short. The coil going beyond the build deck may have something to do with it IDK. I'm hoping when the 30 and 28 ga NI200 you ordered, when it comes in, and you build a coil with 30 or 28 ga the problem will go away since you'll need a lot less wraps so the coil will not protrude beyond the build deck of the atty. I think it was around, for me, a coil of 7 wraps using a 3mm dia dowl, using the 30 ga NI200 to get about 0.19 ohms.

I know I mentioned it before... I think another advantage of the SX350J over the DNA40 is its low resistance limit of .05 Ohms... Not suggesting that .05 should be your target resistance, but it gives a lot more headroom for fluctuation compared to the DNA. If your coil dips below .1 Ohm that's a no go on the DNA40.

DNA 40 will fire well below 0.10, 0.06 as I recall, it will not deliver 40 watts and that resistance.
As others have said, these low resistances of 0.05 are unnecessary probably a grief source.

I ordered some tempered 28 and 30 ga wire as per tchavei's recommendation to another user.

In the meantime, I had messed around trying to maximize my wraps on the Master of Clouds 26 ga. I have 16 wraps (about the max I could fit in my vertex v2) and it comes out to .126 when I lock the resistance. But I notice that it shows .007 resistance lock quite often. I have no rhyme or reason why it does that despite not touching anything. I wicked the .126 build but didn't juice it up and locked the resistance at .007. It kept giving me the same numbers over and over until I shut the unit down and turned it back on which it locked it at .126 again. Trying to figure out why its doing that. .007 must be some error code or something because I have seen that number on quite a few different builds ranging from 8 wraps all the way to the 16.

you can add some same diameter kantal and twist together.

I was able to build with that way when I begun to use TC.

Ahhh Nickel Wire don't you just love it?

That's OK Woofer some people are into Black Leather and Whips. :D

 Thanks man! :)

Perhaps it is because I don't have experience and expectations from winding thick Kanthal coils, I dunno but I don't find Ni 28 ga to be any problem.
My last coil was dry burnt and rewicked 8 times before I turfed it.

Actually Kanthal (for me) coils are small and pretty thin but that for another conversation.

I used some tempered Ni200 last night and the spacing was just to wide between turns I compressed it over and over and it just sprung back to it's original size. so I put it in a pair of ceramic tweezers and torched it (my first ever ni200 torch job) it I didn't have to glow it white hot ore anything but it did stay compressed and I was impressed.

I am having some other problems with the coil and will rebuild here in a little with standard soft Ni200 that usually takes the compression after I take it off the mandrel and give me a non-contact coil with not too much effort. (knock on wood).

Mail came and went and no m class. Damn you USPS!!! You fail me yet again.

Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

Dang sorry to hear that. :( You don't live in Tulsa do you? I've had more stuff lost, showed as delivered when it wasn't, showed as not delivered when it was, showed as no one home for delivery when my security cams show them drive right past without stopping than I can count. Particularly aggravating when it takes the slow boat from China and took a month to get to the US then halfway across the country to disappear locally. IMO USPS needs to be absorbed by a carrier that actually knows how to do the job. So much fat & incompetence in gov. ran organizations these days no wonder were in such debt. Rant over...

Still happily vaping SXmini M on kanthal as my usps driver hasn't delivered my Ni200 yet.
