Seems like folks are hung up on seeing a 'J' on their screen instead of a 'W'. Not so much here, but reading elsewhere, you'd think the sky is falling. Adjust to your preference and move on. It's not too difficult.

I'm curios to see what its actually doing in there on a power level. I mean the concept of a joule is not that complicated; and, the elect nerd in me loved the ide of a new variable adjustable point in vaping.
But what its actually doing will be the fun part.

One thing I have heard is Busardo is not happy with the Joules method or the explanation he got of it's use. But if it works who cares.

People are typically and always will be opposed to change. I'm sure there was those that threw their hands in the air screaming when variable wattage came out as well. No need for variable wattage I can tell what voltage I need to vape at etc.. etc... I think the difference now is were so used to vaping at variable wattage knowing basically how hot a given wattage "power" setting will be.

And now comes a new term that not many people even heard of and they're using it as a "consumption of energy" not a static amount of energy used as in watts.

In my mind it makes perfect sense to use joules. Using Watts as we've become accustomed to in a temperature limiting device really does not make any sense to me. As the temperature limit is reached it will reduce the power to the device to meet the specific temperature setting you set the temperature to invalidating the Watt or power setting on the device. Probably why you wont find any graphs of Watt setting outputs on the DNA 40 reviews while in temperature limiting mode.

Using joule does make sense because it's a measurement of energy consumed over time. So in our case setting the SXmini M to say 20j that basically means were going to attempt to consume 20j of energy /s until temperature limit is reached and then it will throttle as needed over time. So it's a variable amount not static like watts. And of course that's probably why we have the cumulative joule counter on the bottom of the screen so we can see what we consumed during any given firing.

I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone else but it's clear in my head :)

I don't know the gimlet but a 0.002 ohm difference is so small that I would almost think it could be a change in the head itself or mayabe some gunk buildup on the actual coil.
both are complete guesses, but I would think if they are both cool its going to be something mechanical rather then electronic...if that makes sense.

It was time to install another head in the Gimlet anyway.. As posted, these heads are spec'd for 0.20.. The one I just removed was solid @ 0.22.. The new one is setting / reading 0.25. More than likely, just manufacturing variations between them, like most any of the retail coil heads out there. ;) I'll keep an eye on this one to see if it changes at room-temp when checked / set over time..

There certainly were. They kept going until the Provari 3 with vw was released :)

I've been using the same Ni200 coil in the SMOK Gimlet since I've received the M Class.. Each time I check / set the resistance at room-temp, it has been solid @ 0.22...

How do you like the Gimlet, and if something happened to it or you lost it would you buy another? I am on the fence about this one and just wondering.

I really like it.. :) It's a well made tank, and yes, I would purchase one again. Great value for the $$ IMO.. I also had the VCT, and it pales in comparison.

EDIT: I should add that I find the flavor good, it's easy to grip the base to remove when filling, and the AFC can be set for most any vaping style.. I can close it up enough for a mouth-to-lung, or wide-open for direct lung inhales (which I don't really enjoy).

These two have been running hard for a while to, and even though the dual coil looks to be touching it is spaced, just not much space between wraps. I like it tight. :)

Man, I wanted the GCT, until I saw the VCT pro. I would really like that one if I knew for sure they were planning on making ni200 coils for it. I may just have to order it and hope they eventually do come out with ni200 coils .

Yea I'm not sure.. This is on a fresh coil as well. Still getting a good vape so I'm not too worried.

Yeah... Funny how people used to say "oh, it doesn't have Celsius, just use fahrenheit, what's the big deal?" which ...... me off big time.

And the same people now see a J instead of a W and freak out... Lol.

Welcome to my world.

Correct....was added due to request for Celsius.... I'm really pleased to see how civil this thread is when issues are being found in the yihi technology as opposed to the vindictive and "the sky is falling" mentality exhibited in previous technology threads... just saying...

I don't see any issues ... should I check something while I still have a warranty?

Yes it was during the first revision when I made the observation. Bear in mind I was excited with the tech so the sooner I could get a board, the better.

Even though I can get my head around inches, fingers, palms and feet, when it comes to fahrenheit, my brain locks out. You could tell me it's 30F outside and I would put a t-shirt on expecting a hot day [emoji14]

I wonder why that is?

Same type of board, same type of users... Small problems arise and yet things seem to go smoothly... Makes you wonder what triggered the 'the sky is falling mentality' on previous technology threads?
