Mine is black... after 2 weeks ... well take a look.... haven't dropped it yet....
Hello

Mine is getting worse every day...I am using for 3 weeks and paint is looking worse every day. The c part was silver...and now is 40% off and I see the grey matterial under the ...paint. The rest of the housing s black that is is getting worse every day as well as the silver...and I also see the grey metal under the black. Yihi answered me immediately and sent me an invoice number in order to give it to the shop I had purchased it. But the shop has no stock. I am unhappy that Yihi sold pieces like that .It might be the batch as they said..But when we trust reviews about SX Mini M class we expect to receive an excellent mod as the reviewers around the world have said.. It should be reliable to the paint as well as other at that price are. My Provari 2,5 and 2x Provari 3 look like unused after every day use. The SX mini looks very very old in 3 weeks only and the smell of the underneath metal is not pleasant...

I read that in some of the Facebook groups people have contacted Yihi about the paint peeling/chipping problem. From what I understand they sent photos and the mod ID number and got this reply.

Thanks a lot for your interesting and helpful info!

I have similar problems or more worse regarding the paint and peel off with mine and Yihi advised me immediately !! to contact my supplier and give him the invoice number they sent me. I am unhappy with the wear problem after 3 weeks of use , but am I surprised that Yihi responded immediately willing to solve my problem. I do not know why that SERIOUS wear- peel off serious problem happened to their devices..in a few weeks of use...

Q.Would the new replacements be reliable? We have to live with the problem of ours ..till replacements arrive and be tested. It was like to sell us a mod for display only and not for use...
We will see how the new replacements will look like after a few weeks.I hope they will be reliable and durable for everyday use.

I do not think paint of any sort is or should be acceptable on an item that must be handled constantly to be useful. The only finish other than brushed metal that I have confidence in is anodizing for aluminum, bare metal for stainless steel etc. There may be epoxy resin coatings that have the durability required but I have no experience with them. It's unfortunate that Yihi chose zinc die castings for the SX Mini M class because zinc is a very unattractive metal in its natural state. I understand that it is possible to achieve better dimensional precision with zinc die castings compared to aluminum but I personally would be happier with a slightly less precise aluminum frame that was anodized compared to what we have with the M class now.

I would also prefer the lighter weight of an aluminum frame device...but overall I still think the SX Mini M class is a winner. My option is to wrap it with something like J Wraps or put on a silicone case.

Btw Does anyone recommend a specific silicone case source?

You can always just do this.....

YiHi is replacing any early SXMini with defective black paint. To my understanding, no other paint colors have the same issue. I sent mine back to Gingervaper and should have it back this week. It will be an entirely new unit, not just a part swap, and has a different black paint that GV says is resistant to wear.

My guess as to why this got past QC is that on those early units, it takes a few weeks for the black paint to start breaking down. Mine was fine for awhile, then went bad pretty quickly. Thus, this seems to indicate that there was a flaw in the chemical composition of the paint that took considerable time to appear.

Yeah, YiHi has been great about this...and how awesome was GingerVaper too? So painless dealing with them, it twas such a relief that I ordered through GV. My replacement shipped out late last night, so hopefully we will both have ours by the upcoming weekend ;)

Is there a diff in the LG HE2 and HE4? Besides the 30cents

From article linked below:

  1. The HE2 was released first. However both cells are from 2013, with only a five month difference in between their release dates.
  2. The second HE2 discharge test is not clean, indicating a possibly lower quality cell (or maybe it's just a problem with my equipment).
  3. The HE2 heats up faster than the HE4.
  4. The HE2 has to be drained all the way down to 2.0V to meet its nominal rated capacity, whereas the HE4 a more reasonable 2.5V.
  5. The HE2 is not as capable of high-drain (20A) discharges, having been rated at only 200 cycles for (15A), whereas the HE4 is rated at 200 cycles for (20A).
  6. The HE2 I tested is lacking quality control markings which the HE4 and many other commodity cells employ.

GingerVaper is great.. I was actually talking to the guy about purchasing one of the devices and he actually STOPPED me from buying the black and explained to me what was going on back when Yihi 1st halted shipping on them. How many times have you heard of someone at a company stop you from a $200+ purchase??? He actually told me "We try to do as best as we can even if it means losing a sale, We'd rather be honest and have your trust long term then to make a single sale and not have you happy."

I have had several conversations with them, and hands down, one of the best group of guys to deal with..
