Also kudos to Yihi for keeping up with FW updates to old(er) products.

Though I remain unimpressed with the complete lack of any updates at all to my ipv4 / SX330 v4s! Maybe I'll drop a line to Yihi to ask about that.

What's up with the 330V4S? I only had an ipv4 for a few days then sold it.

What's up with it? Well.. it works fine more or less? Does TC very well. It has a range of bugs like the memories don't save in Joules mode and get overwritten in Power mode. But it does TC fine. Just there's no word on any FW updates to either fix the bugs or, preferably, add Ti support or anything else.

YiHi claims to have addressed the finish issues on the newer models, clearly they have the wrong address, here's a shot of mine after 2 weeks of in and out of my empty mod only pocket, and 1 week of the 2 it had the silicone sleeve on it…no bueno on a $200 mod and no point in returning it for obvious reasons. When it gets real bad I'll put my own quality finish on it.

Yerba,

That is exactly what I was talking about. Mine is soft and if I press with my finger nail I have no doubt that I could pull off a strip of paint. If what you have is powder coat it is almost impervious to scratches and solvents like lighter fluid, acetone, alcohol and e-juice won't touch it. When I was still engineering equipment I used it exclusively for anything that needed paint. Plus when you get it there is no cure time that you have to be careful. When they take it out of the ovens it is as hard and ready to go as it will ever be. I know I am making it sound like utopia but that's only because it is as far as paints go.

Oh - and if you are a green sort of guy it is greener than any conventional paint ever thought of being. No solvents used and it is electrostatically sprayed on so there is almost no overspray. It comes out of the gun and electrostatically gets sucked to the part being sprayed. The only problem you may have with it is if you try to get it off. Solvents won't touch it so sanding is the only way to get it off - "Very Cool" stuff.

If that is what you got I am really, really jealous.
Polyester-epoxy powder coatings are far more durable than polyester powder coatings. I used polyesters primarily but the epoxys were so hard I could throw a metal part across a concrete floor and not scratch it. If the metal is not cleaned immaculately before coating it will not take properly and will not be as good as a rattle can job. I've had chunks of powder coating fly off of my brand new fitness equipment delivering an order on a flat bed trailer to Daytona Beach before. I tried repairing the paint but eventually replaced the whole gym order at my expense.

Yeah - I do know that if Powder Coat does get chipped it is really difficult to repair it and make it look good. But it does have some good qualities like it resistance to han wear and such. Guess nothing is perfect but whatever YiHi used wasn't even close to perfect but so far knock one wood mine is holding up pretty well. Only one tiny little scratch and I have no Idea how I managed to do that. I treat it like a baby.

I'm curious as to whether the zinc substrate is part of the problem with coating adherence. Zinc has a very "flakey" oxide and I don't know if paint inherently adheres well to it. Does anyone have some experience with that?

Has anyone disassembled they're SX ?, just wondering if any of the internals are glued or epoxied in place, if so I'll likely leave it alone.

I don't know where I saw it but someone posted a picture of theirs opened up. I didn't see any glue or such but the poster mentioned that the battery tube was attached to the clam shell portion. But in the picture he posted you could only see the two wires coming from the "C" section to the Clam Shell section.

It did look like it was extremely easy to at least separate the clam shell portion from the "C" section without fear of harming anything to take a look.

I haven't disassembled mine but I have seen pictures online of an open SXM and I don't remember seeing any glue of any kind. I also seem to remember someone mentioning that even the board itself was held in place with screws. My memory could be shaky so someone else who has looked themselves would have more valid comments.

That's funny. When I saw your post I was thinking to myself didn't I just say that.

KTM must keep a data base of SX posts. I did make a quick search but I never can find anything on ECF once it is more than a few post back.

In this case, the metal tubing was not cleaned of it's factory protective coating before it was powder coated and the wind blew the nice shiny powder coat flakes off in 2 to 6 inch pieces...
