Actually that Sammy 30Q would be perfect for the Dicodes, which can't use more than 15A anyway - although actually I don't think it uses that 15A except in dual battery mode anyway, which is only 7.5A per battery. It can only do max 40W with single battery.

I'd not heard of that one, that does sound interesting.

I got these VTC5s because I figured I had to see what all the fuss was about, and I wanted to check their capacity in the Dicodes because they're supposed to have super low internal resistance which should mean low voltage drop. So I figured it would be good to see that. But to be honest, besides the novelty and "ooh I've got them", I'm not really sure what the big fuss can be about. I get how they would have been amazing in the days of mechs, but nowadays with regulated devices - will I really see much of a difference between a 2600mah VTC5 and a 2500mah Samsung 25R? The big deal of the VTC5s is the 30A but who needs that in any regulated.

Anyway, I needed more 18650s and the four green "bars" do look nice :)

Actually my Samsung 25R beats my original Sony VTC4

Don't know about the VTC5 though.

My evic supreme is very sensitive to voltage drop at the end of battery life and the vtc4 starts rebooting the device when charge is under 9% while my Samsung makes the evicS reboot only at 1%

My no name battery (god knows where it came from) reboots at 65% charge lol.

Well, I have a feeling the 25R and VTC5 will be pretty damn close in a regulated mod. I retired all my VTC5s to a drawer a while back, but the big draw to them was always their amp draw for mech use. With the current range of 20A batteries on the market (and the 30Q, which is on an even keel with the HG2 at 20A anyways), the VTC5 doesn't have the same appeal it once did if you're regulated vaping.

That's not to say they aren't still one of the best on the market, if not the overall best when taking everything into account, it's just that everyone else isn't nearly as far behind as they once were, and the community has moved in droves to regulated vaping.

I never thought I'd see the day.. my precious.. my precious!

How do you like the Luc V4? I'm currently using a Nitecore D2 and like it a lot but it's limited to .5a charging. I'm looking for something with at least 1a and I've narrowed it down to the Luc V4 (2a) and Xtar VC4 (1a). I understand that 2a is only for 2 ports and I'm ok with that. I like the display on the VC4 but having 2a would be nice, even if I only use it a handful of times.

Yeah I like it a lot. 4x1A, 2x2A, which as you indicate - and which I didn't even realise until after I bought it - is quite unusual.

You do have to be very careful to get the 2014 updated version, because the earlier version(s) has a bug where it will over-charge batteries. Also the older version onlys support 2A for 26650, not 18650.

Have you heard of Lygate? It's a battery/charger review site from Denmark. Well, I say site, it's just one guy - but who reviews hundreds of products in great depth: lygte-info.dk

Any battery or charger I want to get, I check there first for reviews.

Here's his review of the updated 2014 Lucv4.

So yeah the Lucv4 2014 is a great charger, highly recommended - however there are two things I wish it had:
  1. Battery voltage display to two decimal places, instead of one
  2. A total mah count
I've seen other chargers that do have those things, in fact one just showed up as a New Arrival on FastTech the other day. I won't get it until I read reviews, and it's only 4x0.5A or 2x1A, but I do like the display: $34.61 Authentic NOKOSER HB-D4U 3.2" LCD 4-Slot Multifunctional Battery Charger - DC 5V / US plug at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

So my perfect charger would have at least 4x1A - preferably 2x2A as well - and it would also have a better display with those features I mentioned above.

In fact, in terms of displays/feature, the best charger I have heard of (not that I have studied them in great depth yet), is the Opus BT-C700 Analyzing Charger (lygate review.) This is not great for charging speeds - max 4x0.5A or 2x1A. But it has a great display, and many features. It can discharge batteries then auto re-charge them; display their full capacity in mah; test their internal resistance; and more. Hence the "Analyzing" part.

EDIT: Oops, just realised the Opus isn't a LiOn/LiCo charger, it only does AA/AAA! Haha glad I didn't ever buy it on a whim.

If I could find a charger that did all that and also did at least 4x1A (EDIT: and actually did 18xxx batteries!!), I would definitely buy it and make it my main charger. Maybe there is one out there already, I just haven't looked too hard yet.

PS. Here's the Lygate review of your second choice, the XTar VC4. It gets a good review.

And that reminds me of one other thing I would like to have in a charger, that XTar has that the EFest does not have - ability to charge AA/AAA batteries (NiMh). The XTar VC4 does that and so does the Opus BT-C700. So if you ever want rechargeable AA/AAA, that's something to consider. I have 4xAA and 4xAAA batteries I recently found in a cupboard and started using, and was disappointed to find my Lucv4 couldn't charge them so I have to continue using the crappy wall-plug charger that came with the batteries, and takes 12+ hours to charge four of them to 1.5V! :)

I rock a Luc v4 too, and its an awesome charger, I love it. While I normally charge my batteries between 0.5 - 1.0A, as I have enough batteries that I'm never in a hurry to charge, the 2A feature would come in very handy for some folks. Actually, I only have a couple 18490 (will be remedied shortly as it's my fav 2380 setup), so in that case I actually could see the 2A coming in handy if I had forgot to charge the one that last came out of the mod (although I would probably just switch to 18350 and take a spare with me if I was in a rush [emoji14] )

I am getting curious about titanium wire. Can you point me it the right direction. Right now I use a 28awg .07ohm coil on a Kanger STM. If I was to change over to Ti what would be comparable and where is the best place to get the best wire. I see some vape places carry it now and one I looked at carries .4mm and .5mm. What are the advantages? I see it is kind of pricey for the spider web stuff like $30 for 50'. I am wrapping my coils at 3mm about 5 wraps what would I start out with titanium at to try it out.

Wow. Thanks for the detailed post!

I know about the newer version and fixed charging voltage. I agree with 2 decimal places and mah count for the Luc V4. That's what's holding me back. The VC4 has it but not 2a. I'm debating whether I even need 2a charging. Probably not but I said that about 1a when I got my D2

The one from FT is a Nitecore D4 ripoff but maxes out at 750ma charging. It also charges NiMH/Nicad/Lifepo4 (which I use). I have a BTC1000 (step up from the BTC700). The BTC3400 is what you're looking for if you want one for LiIon.

I rock a Luc v4 too, and its an awesome charger, I love it. I've olny been charging at .5 with my D2. I currently have 10 18650's in rotation and ordered 4 more. I vape on 2-6 different mods at a given time and usually have at least 1 battery charging overnight and some throughout the day. My rDNA40 charges internally at .75a so I've been USB charging it. I did buy a couple of 1a internal charging boards but I have to rip out the old ones. Now with my Boxer mod with 2 batteries, I can see faster charging might be useful.

If anyone's interested, I have a brand new, in the box Xtar VC2 for sale in the For Sale section! Excellent charger, excellent price!
I would've jumped on that if it had 1a charging. That's similar to my D2 (.5a). I'd much rather have a 2 port charger but to get more than .5a charging, you have to go with a 4 port charger.

I love my luc 4. The only gripe I have is the ridiculous USB port. I was convinced that it could be used as a 5V charger for cellphones or other devices. It can but it draws it's current from Port no 2 so the only thing you can actually do is use one of your 18650 Batts to charge a cell phone. That's pretty much useless. It would be much better if it was just a charging port so you could charge your vape stuff and your cellphone from the same device if you stay at a hotel.
