Thanks. I've ordered a spool of 24ga and 28ga SS316L from fasttech, since they didn't seem to have anything in between in stock (or I haven't found it). I'm looking forward to receive it, hopefully TC will work as well as with NI200 (somewhere in a thread I've read that Arctic Fox and TC with SS316 didn't work well).

You may want to look at Zivipf for different sizes of nearly any wire. I've never had a problem with them. For SS316, Temco also has many sizes.

I last used Ni200 when TC was first introduced. Didn't like the possibility of running it too hot, so went to Ti when it was enabled on TC. We know how that went, so I tried SS316 when it was enabled. Didn't have a lot of luck with it. When TCR came to pass, I moved to SS430 or NiFe52 and never looked back.

Good to see that you can persist past the penis measuring contest to glean some info you can use from this thread.

I think I'd be a low power vaper without TC. Right before TC I was messing with high power high mass and finding some satisfaction but hated the required airflow control for consistency.

I've been a power mode 10W vaper since my first Kayfun. Whatever best simulates smoking is what I'll use. TC is cute and it works fine, but power mode is rock solid for my style. I wind 2.5mm coils at .5 to 1 ohm. 28g has always been my SS316L wire, but today I wound up a 26ga .6 ohm spaced coil and I'm liking it. There a little more mass and stiffness. I can use it in TC or power mode at 12 watts with a good cigarette like vape.

Man, this thread should be renamed morphing argument thread or something.

It also kind of reminds me of what I imagine riding in a fully automated vehicle might be like, "Just along for the ride."

LOL I have learned more about batteries though, I will give it that. I mean about manufacturing standards and whatnot and etc.

So have I, since the late 90's when I first started seeing them in laptops and RC vehicles.

I post some here, some in other forums. Some non-vape related like RC forums and computer forums.

I don't keep track of them or anything. Do you keep a log of all of your posts? I don't even have a blog log. Here is one graph I still have on my laptop from an Aspire 26650. Yes it was posted here before somewhere.

Luckily this forum does keep track of all posts. So I did some searches.

First I searched all posts by you with the word "battery" in them. One would assume a thread about testing batteries would in fact contain the word "battery".
Here is a link to the actual search: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threadloom/search?query=battery user:"BillW50"&sort=date&tab=709
There were 35 pages of posts. Only ONE was a thread started by you but it was a review of the Lost Vape Triade.

Next I searched all posts by you with the word "test" in them. One would assume a thread about testing batteries would in fact contain the word "test".
Here is a link to the actual search: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threadloom/search?query=test user:"BillW50"&tab=709&page=8
There were 8 pages of posts. Exactly 0 were started by you.

Finally I did a search for all posts by you with both words "battery" and "test" in them.
Here is a link to the actual search: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threadloom/search?query=battery test user:"BillW50"&tab=709
There were 4 pages of posts. Most of those posts were from this very thread, but NONE of them were about tests that you conducted.

Going through the search results, I did find a few posts of you arguing with Mooch about his findings but nothing about you doing any real concrete tests.

If you ever did test batteries you did not post about it here.

Look, I have nothing against you Zaryk and Scott, but I just don't post here alone. I even found places on an Internet search that I don't even recall posting there. And I have been down through this road in the military and working for Philips before. People quickly learn that you are really good at this stuff and then all hell breaks loose. People asking you for help and it never ends. They send you all over the world solving problems that others couldn't do.

If you really did look up my posts, you would have noticed I had taken a two year leave from vaping. I had no clue when I came back about pods, 20700, 21700, nic salt, etc. I paid no attention to anything happening in the forums, new products or anything during this time. I was mainly busy in the RC and EE forums.

I really wouldn't like to be in Mooch's shoes. It would be the same as my experience in the military and Philips. People wanting your help, asking to do more testing, then asking you on podcasts, then videos. Nope, that isn't my cup a tea at all. Maybe Mooch is the type who likes all this. At least I hope so, or he would be suffering like I would be in his shoes.

And to be honest and please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't want anybody to like me. I don't want to be popular. I just don't want to go down that route again. I've been there and done it and I didn't like it.

I think perhaps Eskie was referring to things like battery life, perhaps. Although, that's a two edged sword as any battery life spent throttling back wattage might also improve battery life.

I am not equipped to say whether using TC mode is somehow "harder" on batteries in some way, although I tend to see it as doubtful. I don't know that anybody is equipped to say that or not, across the board, for any TC mod.

I can say that I'd probably be scared to use TC mode in any Smok mod, but that's not exactly a TC or battery thing, that's a smok thing.

Other than that, I'm not prepared to offer an opinion. LOL. Despite being egged on by literally PAGES of opinion and etc.

It's not like this thread has seriously addressed the original question of temp control drawbacks.
Well Anna is correct, the throttling does help save battery power. But the flip side is most vapers want instant vaping when they push the fire button. And TC wire is generally bad for ramp up time. So most TC vapers cranks the power up and the gain you had when throttling, you lost and then some for that quick ramp up time. But you don't have to have instant heat either. :)

To try and get something out of this spiral, are there any drawbacks to using a battery for temp control in the first place?

Maybe some poor soul attempted to give a coherent answer but it got lost in the ego's (not the vaping type).

Yes, the internal resistance of a battery changes if the battery heats up, but the drawback is unfortunately these changes in the resistance are not sufficiently representative of the battery temperature for TC to necessarily always work reliably. As a direct result from this, Mooch in power mode still yields the most satisfactory results.

Seriously what does the battery resistance have to do with TC? The mod isn't measuring the battery resistance to determine temp AT ALL. It is measuring the COIL resistance changes. Yes, measuring the resistance change of a piece of resistance wire that reacts in a predictable manner to temperature changes can be quite accurate. This is the same technology used in many non-vaping devices to determine temperature electronically. Wall clocks with temp readers, the thermostat in your freezer, home based weather monitor stations, digital meat thermometers, and many other devices in your home and car use this EXACT same technology to accurately determine temperature. In fact this technology is used almost everywhere temp is needed to be read by a digital circuit.

BTW - Have you noticed the Pattern of Member(s) that are at the Core of many these Off the Rails Threads?

If so, one will not get the answer here.

Yes, I certainly have noticed a recurring pattern of posters who seem unable to let things go.

Yeppers, and what a mess :(

Closing :)
