Ok, so the nife48 can't be pulsed like kanthal because of the high nickel content? Low power dryburns only, like Ti?

Oh heavens NO! NiFe52 ought to be dry fired like Kanthal A1 and SS - don't worry about "pulsing" or such nonsense.

If it were not for the ability of nife52 to be dry fired/cleaned once gunked up we all might as well stick with Ti1 or Ni200!!

I'm asking specifically about the nife48 supplied by zivipf. Nife52 from unk clearly is not nife52 right? Which supplier did you use for your nife52?

Reason I asked about higher wattage dryburns is to thoroughly clean twisted wire. The #1 reason I don't use twisted Ti.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. Can't dryburn at high power, no probs. I dryburn my Ti coil that I use for nets once every few days or 20ml, whichever comes first, at 7w for 10secs to get everything burnt off. So it sounds like nife48 may work very well. Is it as rigid as Ti once pulsed? I love the toughness of my 24g Ti builds. They have held symmetry very well after umpteen dryburns.
I started dry firing mine in a single large loop in order to make it more workable for coiling, but on the water test, I made a contact coil right off the spool and the torched it and it seemed easier to work that annealing on a device. But, I was only dry firing at 15w... maybe it needed more power. Like others stated, my coils look charcoal/black after torching or dry firing, but I've not have any flakes or anything in it. I did notice it looked like it started to rust while doing the water test... the SS430 did the same thing.

I got the notnife52 and the Zizipf on order. Truely I was not planning on treating ether wire any different than I do SS430, other than (of course) having different TCR numbers.

If you read back to the beginning of the thread where the idea of Kanthal Nife52 was introduced, the resistance, TCR AND dry burn ability were the three positives for considering using the wire.

You know what I am wondering is if the FDA gets the BS policy through making everthing developed after Feb 2007 illegal in the US what are we supposed to do. I'm seriously thinking of getting 3 more SXM's upgraded and put away. I started vaping in 2009 and the stuff that was out there then was terrible. Thats why I still smoked also. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. Maybe I could get it through @TheotherSteveS if he was willing to do it but this BS is starting to scare me. I'm not going back to tea bags which I don't think were even thought of then. I know this is off topic but it is pretty important if you vape and enjoy TC like me. I wonder how long we will have if this thing gets passed.

Cigatron, don't tell me you are going to the darkside! Just kidding, have not tried your Ti 24g yet, but I did get that gauge from Rio Grande. What Mod are you using to pulse your Ti wire?

Great, when arrives blast it at 20w or so to see how it holds up. I've been here since near the beginning of this thread, following along all the way. As recall @TheBloke was going to do more testing on his newly obtained zivipf nife48 about the time he went mia. Now that others have received theirs from zivipf I'm inquiring about it's real world characteristics. Hope that's ok.

FWIW, I stuck a coil of the Vape Vine NiFe52/Reactor wire in a STplus and it started jumping out of TC using the SE curve. I set the TCR and it seemed to work better although the temp seemed low. This morning my wife was trying it out and it jumped out of TC again. I dug out the SXMM, locked the res, set the TCR of regular NiFe52 first and it gave a dry coil error. I changed it to the TCR for NiFe Reactor and it seems to be working ok, but the temp is still a little low.

I think if you look at that mill sheet from unkamen and the bottom of the cottonman's reactor wire page you will see that they contain almost all the same elements but in slightly different amounts except for the "remainder" of titainium in unkamens (none in reactorwire) and aluminum in reactor wire ( none in unkamens)

    edit
referred to cottonmans since vapevine didnt list elements

I dryburn in vw mode on the only three tc mods I have, Evic VT60's. It has step down.

Darkside....lol. I'm always looking for better options, especially the ability to use twisted wire. Single strand 24g Ti works outstanding but I can't get twisted 28g Ti hot enough to bring the coil to "like new" condition without developing oxides. Bad stuff.

I paid my coil winding dues with clearos, literally winding hundreds of them because of the burny grommet issues with high wattage dry burning. I just don't want to have to fool with winding coils often. If it turns out that I can dryburn twisted nife48 to like new condition AND it runs on my evics I'd be in flavor heaven.

    green?!?!?!? Thats nickel oxide mate!

I'll check the Zivipf Rightfethal52 later but I'm pretty sure it just looked like torched kantal but my eyes are dim these days...

Obviously its clear tge Notfethal52 isnt, but that would suggest a high nickel content. How can that be though?!?!..Where is the @druckle man when you need him?!?!

That druckle guy is lurking, confused and totally flumoxed over what the NotNiFe52 could really be. There's not enough chemistry data to even make a rational guess as to what's going on.

I was going to order some from Unkamen then saw the problems reported here and just let my shopping basket sit for a couple days without processing payment. I sent a note to Ralph saying I didn't want to process the order until the situation became more clear.

I just got the NotNiFe52 I DID NOT ORDER today in the mail. I don't feel it's worth analyzing (at least not from my funds) so I ordered some from Germany to explore.

Unless there's a miracle in any aspect of NiFe52 alloy performance I'd be hard pressed to forsake Ti Grade 1 which has been performing perfectly for me, but, yes, I'm always curious and always willing to experiment (as long as it's cheap to do so) ;)

@druckle Glad to see you drop in.

ATM I was searching the thread for the clean Ti coil method, thinking it would fall under your handle. (Don't recall who susst it.)

    1. As a metallurgist are you aware of any (potentially) noxious by products from NiFe alloys.

    2. Would you repost the Ti clean coil method so we can begin to replicate that for NiFe's, to the extent it is needed.

    Thanx

I don't expect any particularly serious issues to pop up with use of NiFe52 as with Kanthal A1. Most of the heating elements in the world have Nickel or Iron in significant percentages so unless you are concerned about your toaster poisoning you or you have the champion nickel allergy of all time then NiFe52 at coil temperatures of less than 500F should be totally benign.

The controlled dry burn technique for titanium coils was first posted by balazsk. I think his method is perfect for dryburing the crud off of Grade 1 titanium coils while leaving them in pristine, undamaged vapable condition. Kudos to balazsk for the new "sliced bread".

For a DNA 200 I put the Ti dry burn in as profile 8 so I don't easily make an error and try to vape a burning wick. :)

Check out balazsk's post of Sep 6, 2015
    https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...nt-of-resistance.676506/page-66#post-16450667

He sets the TCR at 0.00725 and the temp at 300C for Grade 1 titanium.

The coil temp is about 600C with these settings.

tchavei sets the TCR at about 0.007 I think to lower the temp a little.

I personally like to lower the temp also but usually do it by just setting a slightly lower temp than 300C,

Egads I'd hope it's ok to talk about our gear and using it!

I'm out of town and did not get a chance to measure the notnife52 so I have something to compare to (other than the Kanthal data sheet) when the German wire shows up.

got my NotNiFethal52 from Unkamen, its in usps's hands now, headed back to him, so i decided i'd take the 200' of 28g ss430 for $10 along with a refund.
went to Steam Engine to start planning a build but there's no ss430 on the list!
If anyone is building with this wire (Unkamens ss430) clue me in on your builds please, wraps #, size and ohms and include twisted if your twisting.. would really appreciate it
also if you're twisting i wonder if it kinks and breaks or if it just breaks when you get it twisted to tight
If you're building with a different supplier im still interested but do want to know supplier
    Thanks
