I can tell a fresh coil from a used coil, even dry burned and scrubbed. I can tell a two day old coil from a fresh one. Takes me about five minutes to rectify that, and about five cents.

Just strikes me as funny that folks spend hundreds if not thousands on mods, atomizers, tools, and juice chasing that perfect vape, and then pinch pennies on the two things that actually cost just pennies, the wick and wire.

Got to admit, that's a good point.

For me, making a spaced vs contact coil is the difference of only a couple of minutes though. I'm too OCD about wicking and that's where most of my time is spent. So having a coil that lasts as long as possible is more beneficial. Believe me, I wish I could just stuff some rayon in the coil and not worry about it but I just can't do it!

Man, I've been enjoying Ti lately in my E7 Monster, but I think it might be time to try and step my game up to a mod that can handle more metal types, but still bottom feeds. Might be TMod time; he puts SXJ boards in his mods. What's the consensus on SS430 in an SXJ with TCR firmware?

Also just ordered a ton of Rayon (might have ordered more than I ever need, but that's the beauty of it).

I completely agree. I'll pick up something that I built yesterday and wonder what possessed me to put such an off build in there, even though I know it was flawless when it was initially built/wicked. 100ft of wire goes by in a fury of poked fingers, wire cutters and post screws. Good to know I'm not the only one!

While I've since tried to keep my wire sorted out by brand/model of tank, I'll often recoil because I've long forgotten the type of wire I installed in the 1st place.

Otherwise I'll leave a build installed until it stops performing (usually a few weeks) or I just want to try something else. I have one TSV4 SS430 build that I've dry burned/cleaned and rewicked twice.

Its not about saving $$ for me its about being lazy and I seriously can't taste the difference.

Like I mentioned many times in many places, if I go more than two or three days without yanking a coil and putting in a fresh one on an atty I'm actively using, I'm probably dead, and I re-wick daily. So gunk-prevention isn't a factor for me, nor is any sort of long-term deformation. Therefore, the effort of meticulous coil wrapping is worthless to me, when it's going in the trash in a matter of hours anyway.

Different croaks for different folks I guess.

Well I'm going to try a contact Ti coil just for that reason laziness. Going to try 6wraps 3mm 26awg actually it is about 26.5 according to the Bloke. Sure wish someone could find out what happened to him. I'm lazy with wicks too 2-3 weeks usually. As long as they don't flood or taste bad I'm good.

My FeV V3 I can setup a new coil and wick in a few minutes, so it is never a problem. The two Rose V2's are another story, love the flavor from them but putting in a new coil and wick is a little more involved. :)

Yeah, I make it a point to avoid atomizers with complicated build decks or arcane wicking methods. My current tank/dripper rotation has nothing but two post decks.

Let me join the club and do my coiling coming out:
For me, there are several factors determining coil life spans: e.g taste, wire material /gauge coil type, the atty it is in, liquid, mood etc.
The only things seems to be universal that
1., If I am not satisfied with the performance I change
2., Dry burn cleaning is not really my thing. I do it when I am super lazy but the second run never last too long

Let me also speak out a bit on coiling or re-coiling:

I have never understood the claims about longevity of coils as "my coil lasted for six months". I am inclined to believe that no taste buds are involved in these claims.

Vaping for flavor, I am aligned, at the worst with the claims involving X ml of liquid before a change, e.g., @dwcraig's "50 ml" standard.

Because I squonk, with dual Kanthal, and now tank, with NiFe 52, dry-burning gives me a longevity w/o degradation of flavor.

Accordingly where I most differ is the need for re-wicking (w/o recoiling) the moment I detect a loss of flavor. What is remarkable is when I look at a coil and wick that has lost flavor the signs are obvious: weak/oversaturated wick material, and/or gunked coil. [emoji102]

Bottom line, if you cannot taste it, it doesn't matter. I can taste the difference of an overworked wick or coil and redo the moment the taste degrades, even a slight loss of flavor.

Even at that rate, I'd still be changing coils pretty much weekly. :)
Ya know, I used to change coils all the time until I figured out the kanthal dry burn. I dry burn, quench, dry burn, quench, brush with toothbrush, rinse then dry burn then wick. Unless I am vaping Bob's Bounty or some dark tobacco or coffee vape I can get a long while out of a coil. Building is time consuming. I can build fairly quickly but it still takes so much more time and once I mount a great coil there is no reason to pull it until I really have to. That's my experience. It's made my vape life much easier.

I agree and Ti cleans up really well. Tastes like new when cleaned also.
