I was asking @jazzvaper about some NiFe48 today and he mentioned you @dwcraig1 because I was talking about getting it from CW. He said you had posted up some things about them lately. Which I'm glad I did get on here because I have some 430ss from there. I actually have put it aside because when I tried both gauges I had the same results as you with SE TCR, hits temp right off no vapor. So what have you found to be correct TCR for CW 430??

What gauges do you have? I have 24, 25, 27, and 31ga. I've only tested 25 so far and like you set it aside because it was limiting out immediately. I was experimenting using a TCR of .00175-.002. I wanted to do a water test but haven't had the time as of yet. I think DW is using .00258 or something like that - it's in here few posts back

Cheers,
Steve

I have "relaxed" it a bit since, now using 0.00238. It's about in range now.

I have 25g & 27g. I tried both when I got it a couple of months ago with a few builds each & tried putting in other coefficients. I used it with sxj chip & the Aulus chip. I don't even remember what I used now other than SE. I thought it was maybe just crappy wire(which maybe it is) but I hope I can get this TCR set & get good results b/c I've got 25m of each. I've still been using Ni & Ti b/c I have the vape I like down with them. I've tried 316L & don't like it for TC. Which I see why now with reading these last couple of pages. I'm really excited to try some NiFe48,52, or 70.

So I guess I can give my opinion on the CrazyWire SS430.
It is soft and winds quite easy, easier than kanthal, about as soft as NiFe52.
I prefer a two strand coil of twisted Unkamen's 28 gauge 430 to single strand CW 25 gauge 430
I would suspect a two strand twisted 28 gauge coil of CW430 would be the same as Unkamen's but a bit easier to wind.
CW SS430 works well.

Do you use spaced or contact coils? Do you pulse/dry burn your 430ss or not?

Yesterday on my Kayfun 5 clone that has the twisted 28 gauge SS430 from Unkamen and SE's 430 curve I closed off the juice control and vaped it dry. It worked as expected, ended up no vapor.
This morning I did the same with my other Kayfun 5 clone that has a coil of Crazywire's 25 gauge SS430 and a using a TCR of 0.238. Same results, no burnt taste just no taste, no vapor (well next to no vapor). My live view of the end.

@dwcraig1 i put a CW 430ss(25g) coil in my Narda this weekend. 5 wraps, 3mm ID, 0.25ohms. I am using it with the Aulus chip and put in TCR testing 3 different values(.0024,.0025,.0026). The Aulus only has 4 decimal places. Vaping at 26.5J and 430f. I can't tell a huge difference but I think I prefer the .0024 TCR. Almost a year ago I started squonking only so I have been somewhat limited on my choice of chips. I hate to say I haven't experimented with escribe yet but hope to be getting a dna75 squonker soon.

There's now a number of mods out, or coming out, that will allow easy vaping with wires other than Ni200.

People are already using Titanium, and some are trying Stainless Steel, with normal DNA40/Yihi devices. But using a standard TC mod with these wires does not give the best experience because the mod expects the wire to be Ni200 and predicts its temperature on that basis. Temperature offsets have to be used in the case of Titanium, and Stainless Steel will burn dry cotton at any temperature setting.

But now new mods are coming out which are able to support TC wire other than Ni200:
  • Joyetech are in the process of releasing their EVIC-VT mod which has a specific Titanium mode, in addition to standard Ni200 mode.
  • Other mods are going even further: Dicodes in Germany, and Infinite in China have both released chips that allow user customisation of the Temperature Coefficient of Resistance.
    • This allows one to achieve accurate TC on any wire whose resistance increases linearly and significantly as it heats.
    • Such as Titanium, Stainless Steel, and a new wire being popularised by Dicodes called Resistherm NiFe30.
  • Dicodes have released a new tube-mod chip used in two of their own mods, and one from a third party.
  • Infinite have released a new DNA 40 clone chip/board, which goes to 60W and includes a feature called 'Nickel Purity'
    • This feature is poorly named: while it was apparently intended for use with poor quality nickel, it in fact does far more than that - it allows vaping with many other wires as well.
    • I own a mod with Nickel Purity and am using it to test vaping with Titanium and Stainless Steel, and soon also Resistherm NiFe30
    • This board is being used in:
      • Infinite's own 40W, 50W, 60W Vapor Flask clones (FastTech link.)
      • Geeco's new 60W Zero clone (thread on this forum.)
      • Other new 60W Zero clones (FastTech link - any of the 60W clones in the dropdown.)
      • New VaporShark rDNA 40 clones @ 40, 50, 60W (FastTech link - not the V2s)
      • And quite likely many more to follow
I've created this thread with the following aims:
  • To explain the principles of using non-Ni200 wires with TC mods
  • To give my findings on Infinite's new Nickel Purity feature, which I have in my new Infinite 50W VF (VaporFlask clone)
  • As a central place to discuss coefficient of resistance modification, in whichever mod it's found
  • To generally discuss the use of non-Ni200 wires for TC with modified coefficients:

I have been testing modifications of the Temperature Coefficient of Resistance on my Infinite 50W flask and will post details in the following posts. I have tested both Titanium and Stainless Steel, with good results

Today I also ordered some of the new Resistherm NiFe30 wire (at the eye-watering cost of €13/10m!) and I will be testing this as soon as it arrives.

Thanks for giving better way of understanding but would you please share some evidence based reference i need it because i am working project like that.

Crazywire's 25 gauge SS430 and a using a TCR of 0.238.

First, I'm assuming you meant 0.00238.
I was curious if I could improve the vape so I tried that TCR on my Supreme using CW430 27g
Here's the result, it doesn't reach temp. Not even close. I see you are at 40W, I am at 45. My temp is set much cooler than you as well. Way different results. I've been in touch with Crazy Wire and 'they are looking into it'.

Yes, .00238...LOL
Or Dicodes 238
Keep in mind I vaped that dry to see if I got any foul tasting hits and I did not.
If you want something to compare to use this one...it's "operational" at least.
2.7 mm id 25 gauge cw ss430 in modified for TC TGTII with tcr of .00238.

When I was experimenting with the 25ga CW SS430 I was going between .00175-.002 At .002 it seemed over done. I was comparing it to the same settings I'm using on Unkamen SS430. I had both of them on different Supremes.

The only differences were wire gauge (Unk 28 - CW 25ga) and TCR setting of course. Was using 35 watts on the CW and 30 on the Unk.

Both were 7 wraps, 2.5mm, set at 420F.

I have so much wire that I just ended up shelving the CW SS430. After the Firmware update my SS316L Clapton wire is working great. If I want SS430, I'm just using the Unkamen

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm using a couple brands atm. I really like the Lightning Vapes 28ss, 36ss(ga) a friend sent me to try. I'm also using MKWS (26, 32 and 28, 32ga) Clapton wire I bought from FastTech. I like them both but the 28ss,36ss LV wire is easier on the batteries ;)
Clapton Wire
$3.69 Authentic MKWS 316L Stainless Steel Resistance Wire for RBA Atomizers - 28/32 AWG / 0.3mm/0.2mm dia. / 9.5ohm / 5m(15ft) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Cheers,
Steve

Sadly, "TheBloke" has not logged on to ECF for quite some time so it is rather doubtful that he'll be providing any 'evidence based reference'.
