I've just received 3 Anodized Bolts from Smoketek - Red, Slate, Black. Woohoo for Black Friday sales - 2 are Christmas presents. I can confirm at least they are all Anodized on the inside. They are slightly lighter and thinner than my old Chrome (silver) Bolt. madvapes sells replacement switches in various colors. There was a guy who replaced his switch with an LED button on UKVapors.com (RIP) - I don't have the original link but I can show you my choice: http://dio.dionext.co.kr/p/bj/p-a64.jpg - maximum width 18mm - when I do it... someday. The picture shows a switch rated at 12V... I doubt that one will work but it gives you some idea of how cool the Bolt can look with a modded switch.

Guys, I am looking to buy a Bolt. However I have few questions if anyone can help.
1- What is the difference between anodized and non anodized? is one better than the other and why?
2- Regarding the kick, does it work on anodized or non-anodized? do I have to sand the body from the inside for one of these versions (let's say i will get the Black Bolt not the metal one)?
3- If I get one now do I have a better wiring since it is supposedly a new BOLT version?

Thanks.

Hi aalwani,
I'll try and answer as best I can:
1. The finish on the new anodized bolt is fantastic, no finger prints, looks fantastic and hard wearing. Apparently the new bolt has thicker wiring, I'm not going to disassemble my bolts to find out. The original bolt is still a good unit, although there have been reports of deterioration of the finish on the gun metal/black chrome bolt.
2. The kick works fine in both versions. If you get the new anodized bolt (which I would recommend), you will need to sand away the anodization inside part of the extension ring for the kick to make contact. This is an easy job which took me about 5 minutes. Once this task is complete, the kick works flawlessly with an AW 18490 battery. The other good thing is the kick will sit in the extension while you change the battery, so you don't have to take it out all the time. People who have owned a kick know that the less you have to move it, the longer it will last.
3. See answer 1.

If you decide to get a bolt, the best deal i'm aware of at the moment is at Hoosier Vapes. They have a 20% off sale going at the moment which brings the bolt down to $27.99 including the extension ring. The discount is automatically added when you add the bolt to your cart (no code required). The have the old chrome and gun metal as well as they new anodized versions in different colours.

Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish.
I got a black (textured finish) Bolt a few days ago and am very pleased with it. Very solid construction and finish. The threads need to be lubricated but other than that it's good out of the box.
I use single coil 1.7 cartos and a tank with single coil 1.0 plated cartos. I got mine from Hoosier e-cig (includes the extender sleeve) for $34. The 18650 3000 Mah batt lasts a full two days for me and I consider myself a pretty heavy vaper.

Something around 100 grit would do well. It doesn't need to be pretty on the inside so there is no reason to go much finer. Power drill and a flapper wheel is ideal, but you could also wrap a couple layers around a fat sharpie marker, wooden spoon handle, socket wrench and/or extension, etc...

On a side note, my Bolt hasn't gotten much use lately. But since discovering 30g kanthal with a Vivi Nova, the Bolt is back in action. For me, 1.4ohms of 30g in a ViVi Nova on the Bolt with a Panasonic CGR18650CH is a GREAT combo.

I've only had my Bolt for less than a week, so I'm not sure how the finish will hold up.

I also have the Gunmetal Bolt. I've been using it for a little over 2 months now, and the finish is pretty worn. It doesn't bother me any, because it still functions perfectly, just like it did on the first day I got it. The button is still "clicky" and hasn't turned mushy at all. It's also never failed to fire. I'm really happy with it, but for those concerned with the finish, I will tell you now, it will not hold up.

I concur! Now that I've used it a bunch, the finish is giving way and it's a bit of a scratch magnet. I thought that would really disappoint me, but it just looks like I've been vaping longer than two and a half months. It's got character now, and I still love it as much as the day I got it.

How long did the Kick last?
Sorry for the delay, I forgot about this thread, turns out the kick didn't die, the inside of the bolt oxidized and it wouldn't make contact anymore, still works great in my telescope, however the I started vaping in the 11-12 amp range so the 10amp max is weak to me.

anyone know where to source a Bolt with the metal button that looks like the silver bullets? I don't think the new anodized versions with the thicker wires have ever been sold with the metal button, but I know a few shops had the old bolts with the metal button. I'd love to get one so I can finally push that damn Silver Bullet button. :p

I have the "slate" anodized Bolt so I will add to this conversation. Its a great mod and I really have no complaints for it. The button isn't exactly "CLICKLY" but it does make a clicky noise and it is pretty easy to know when its pressed far enough to fire. The button itself is a hard, shiny black plastic. The button's housing, which protrudes out of the machined button hole, is a matte hard plastic. There is NO soft malleable plastic used in the newer Bolt's button. This is not a cheap horn switch. Its a nice button. VERY similar in aesthetics to the BB from alt smoke's button imho. Although the Bolt's button is not flat. It is rounded with a flat cut through the middle which feels nice when running your finger over it.

The machining around the button is great. It never stops amazing me how well the hole for the button is machined. In a smoktech mod no less? Unbelievable! lol. I really do like the machining as far as that goes. The machining where the head meets the bottom battery housing could be better on my model. Its not perfect, but its not shabby either. I can feel where the two tubes separate and I can see where they separate pretty easily with it held a foot or so away from my eyes. Further away it does disappear for the most part but you can still see it in the right lighting conditions. You can feel where the two tubes separate on my Bolt, but this may be different for everyone. I say that because with my extender ring, the two tubes fit together perfectly flush. With the extender tube you cannot SEE or FEEL the separation of either side of the ring at all. The two tubes basically disappear with the extender ring installed.

However, the extender ring does stick out in that it is not the same exact shade of "slate" as my battery housing tube and my switch housing tube. It is a bit lighter than the two and I have noticed that the extender ring almost feels like it's outside is made out of plastic, despite the fact that it clearly has aluminum threading. I run my fingers over the extender ring and it just feels like something is strangely different about it's texture and feel. If I tap it with my fingernail it almost feels plastic in nature which is weird to me. The extender rings may be plastic OR the one I got may be plastic on the outside, fitted w/metal threads.

It's size is considerably smaller than other mods in its category. It is considerably smaller in girth and in length when compared to the Silver Bullet, which is another tube mod that closely resembles and is in direct competition with, the Bolt mod. I truly like the length and girth of the Bolt, where-as the length and girth of the Silver Bullet makes it, in my opinion, almost a novelty device in the time of increasingly shrinking mods with the same functions in the Silver Bullet's class. While the silver bullet does seem to be the heavier of the two mods, (with the SB having thicker walls and a metal button) I think the Bolt shines in its compact size and damn-good finish durability due to it's anodized finish. How many Silver Bullets with chipped paint and hair line scratches have I seen, you might ask? Too many to count. Where-as the Bolt has an anodized finish that will protect itself from small scratches more effectively than a painted or coated mod. I do not think the Bolt would stand up to a drop to the hard nooks and crannies of asphalt as well as the Silver Bullet's walls would. But, I do think the anodized finish of the Bolt would protect it from small scratches more effectively than the painted finish of the Silver Bullet. (However, the "silver vein" finished SB is probably on-par or better at hiding and resisting hair-line scratches when compared to the anodized aluminum finish of the Bolt)

Versatility wise, the Bolt wins against mods in it's class. With its small stature and figure, it takes an 18500 battery stock, or an 18650 battery with the extension ring. This allows you to use a Kick with the Bolt in many different configurations. You can use the kick in the Bolt without an extension ring with an 18350 battery, effectively giving you one of the smallest kicked tube mods available today. Alternatively you can use the extension ring to use an 18500 battery with the Kick. OR: You could also use two extension rings and use an 18650 battery with a Kick. This is opposed to the Silver Bullet, which comes stock with an 18650 sized tube, cutting out it's ability to use the Kick with the 18350 battery. (although you could get the SB's extension ring and use the SB with an 18650 battery & the Kick) The Bolt is a VERY, very small Variable Wattage device when using the 18350 battery with the kick, and for that reason I like the bolt's versatility a lot more than the Silver Bullet's. If you really want to get funny, you could always buy up a few Bolt extension rings and use then to make yourself a wide variety of ridiculously long configurations.

All in all I cannot complain about the New- "Anodized Bolt E-cig Mod" Model. It seems a fair bit higher quality than what I have heard about the older model(s) of the Bolt and its definitely a good upgrade. I like mine a lot. I can go to the Altsmoke website and look at the Silver Bullets, but with my Bolt in hand, I can never seem to justify buying a SB, even though it has always been my dream to own one. If I were working and had no expenses I'm sure I'd own a Silver Bullet but the Bolt is a great mod in it's own right, and in it's own category for that matter. As far as the whole picture- The Bolt is a fantastic mod.

Havent seen anywhere to purchase Bolts with the SB button, but you can purchase a SB button and put it in your Bolt....

(not the exact same button because the PV2 series wont fit in a Bolt, but mechanically the same)

My Gunmetal Bolt is what I started vaping with a little over 2 months ago, and it's still going strong. 100%.

I got my mom into vaping, and hers (red anodized) has quit working after only a day or two. It won't fire anymore. Luckily, MadVapes said I can simply return it for an exchange. I'm getting her the Gunmetal one this time, just because mine has been so good to me.

Thats strange that your mom's Bolt stopped working especially considering it was a new anodized one. But they are mass produced devices so it may have been an anomaly. It may have been something small such as a dot of solder breaking loose or the 510 connection's center pin slipping down a bit? Anyway, I really wonder if I could find a colored bolt with the chrome button? I like the chrome a lot so I'm probably ordering that tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Yeah, I'm not sure what happened. I didn't really want to fiddle with it or open it up, since it's so new, and I didn't want to ruin my chances of an exchange.
