Hey guys. Just made a few of of bills blends and tested them in my dripper. The taste was wonderful (key lime pie, Dutch Apple, cream cheese Danish) however the flavor was overpowering. Does anyone else here drop these 30 percent mixes and if so is it too much for you as well? New to diy so wondering if it's just me...

These flavors will mellow a little bit over time dont worry , try the same juice in a few weeks you will notice the differente.

Everyone is different, and so is the taste of each recipes.
Some I lower the % on, and other are just right.
If you want to try a recipe at a lower %, just make sure to lower each flavor equally.
If you find that you lose a flavor along the way, raise that one back up again.
Bill has said many times that he welcomes each of us to adjust his recipes to our own "sweet spot"

Everyone's taste buds can treat the flavorings we use differently.
What's great is he gives us a starting point towards a good recipe.
I like to keep my flavorings around 20%, and with a little "tweaking" of the flavor combo's, it comes out terrific.

Couldn't have said it better than Slots did, also equipment used might effect flavor intensity or muting....easiest example- clearos vs drippers..I do tend to use lower percentages and less sweetener for my tastes in most my recipes, but that is for my tastes and my equipment.

Monica, glad to hear about your mix, Yay!

Been in the wood shop a lot lately, and not in the Vape Lab.

As several of our veterans have said, these juices and their recipes are what work for us individually based on our own taste sensitivities using the gear we vape with. I use a good RTA (Taifun GT), and mix for that application. These juices may well be too strong on some drippers. That being said, I know dripper users who think my recipes are too weak!

So, as others have said, these recipes need to be tweaked to work for you. I can only really make juice that I like. This seems somewhat obvious, but try making a juice that you don't like! I made a tobacco, Brandon's Choice, a few weeks/months ago. Tastes absolutely horrible to me and the missus, Jo. However, daughter Megan and her friends really, really liked it. I don't know to this day if it's any good or not, and there has been very little reporting about it on this thread, so I still don't know, but I know I don't like it, and therefore, can't improve it for others.

Some of you have figured out that I love desserts, sweet creamy vanilla deserts. Did I mention sweet? This is my cup of tea, but perhaps, not yours. So, take what you can and what works for you, and change it to work with you. I have tried to show HOW to make good juices, not a list of all my recipes. For the most part, I have listed only TFA recipes on this thread, though that is only a third of my recipes overall. My blogs mainly have only TFA recipes. It's hard enough trying to figure out DIY without having to also figure out what flavorings from what vendors. As such, I don't mention too often that there are some great flavors out there that are not made by TFA, and for which TFA has no substitute. That being said, remember that it's DIY, literally delicious relatively inexpensive juice that matches our taste preferences. This is more a learning experience rather than merely making recipes, and closer to cooking, than anything else I can think of.

Isn't it true that adding butter and garlic and olive oil to anything makes it better? Maybe not, but it works for me, and everything I cook has garlic, sea salt, butter, possibly cream, etc. in it. Wonderful.....for me. So, no doubt your tastes are different, variety is the true spice of life, and so there is a literal endless variety of flavors and tastes that we can create to match our vaping pleasure. I've also said many times that it is the journey that makes this fun, and not always the result, which sometimes is not so good. So, I've tried to help with a few of the basic things which can make juice really good, and the rest is up to you. Happy DIY'ing, happy vaping, and happy Holidays! Best to you! :D :toast:

Maybe....cut %'s in half and try them that way so instead of a 30% mix, you get a 15% mix, bump flavors up or down as needded...might work, might not? Just a suggestion that could be worth a try to see if it works for you.(Sandron 419)..or not. Seems like an easy way to keep the recipe in proportion?

I hope to mix tonight....gotta stock my mom up on lime coconut and try some other fruity stuff...craving tropicals since it's sooooo cold in PA, and I miss my summer weather. Might tinker on a pumpkin roll type thing though too....maybe....fruits first though

I agree, Bill gives us his blessings mixing to our taste and so much to work with but a LOT of diy is very personalized and reason why I'm loving it, heck, some of my recipes are probably nasty to some being I like some "oddball" flavors, but I love some of them, and am still tweaking to improve them to be even better, it takes time, trial and error to get any recipe perfected to your tastes...small batches, 100 drop tests...tools to get ya' there ...keep playing around, keep notes, experimentation, innovation, have fun and learn from mishaps...I've only been doing this since July or August so am really new myself, but am persistent...Lol.

I am looking for some help on a banana pudding mix that I am working on. I am trying to bring out more creaminess and reduce just a bit of the floral hint .

Here is what I have so far

Banana ripe - 8%
Brown sugar - 5%
Bavarian Cream - 6%
French Vanilla Cream - 6%
Vanilla Cupcake - 4%

A very nice start! I would modify it something like this:

Banana Pudding

Banana Cream - 8 - 12%
Banana Ripe - 2 - 3%
Bavarian Cream - 6
Vanilla Swirl - 5%
Cotton Candy - 5%
Brown Sugar - 2-3%
Vanilla Cupcake - 2%

Keep recipe at 30% or less. Possibly increase vanilla cupcake if you want that flavoring in your pudding. Good luck! :toast:

Bill,

I thought once I read where you suggested a small % of raspberry to cut the floral note, do you think this will help or do you think the Banana cream will take care of it?
This much cream will also do the same. I wouldn't taste a floral note in this mix.Yes, raspberry and strawberry both work wonders on floral notes in flavorings like grape and many others. The right blend of banana cream and ripe will need to be worked out by you to find that perfect banana for YOU! :toast:

I have one suggestion:

If the recipe tastes good, you have a good flavor ratio and don't want to mess with it. One good way to strengthen/weaken the flavor is to premix and THEN add to pg/vg.

For example, if you have a good mix that specifies flavor at 30% mix a batch of ONLY flavor. Then if it's too strong you can use that mix as a base at, say, 25% of total flavoring. Just use the flavor mix with your calculator to mix whatever PG/VG ratio and nic strength.

Great suggestion, and one I use all the time, but not so much too dilute the flavoring, but more to get the flavors fully bonded before adding to carriers and nicotine, and always as a 30% PG mix, even if I have to add PG to get there (for recipes with flavoring less than 30%). I store these bases in 500 ml reagent bottles that look like this:

Often times, these bases will lead to 500ml mixes like this:

1 500 mls of CD.jpg

Yes, my ADV: Cinnamon Danish. :toast:

In fact, I have a blog about this process. Thanks Cliffy for bringing this to our attention! :toast:

I've been making flavor bases for a lot of the recipes that I like but I keep it at just the flavoring so that I can increase/decrease the flavoring percentage at will. For example, I love Bill's pink starburst... if I'm remembering correctly it is around 22% ... where I formerly added 8% pg to make it a 30% base in a 30/70 pg/vg blend I now make a bottle of flavoring mix only... and because I like it a tad stronger ... use it as a 25% base in my 30/70 pg/vg liquid. (of course I let the mixing calculator do the number crunching if you can call it that) ...

Bill, Ive got one for ya!
Does the lemon stick around in the lemon cake if you mix up a bulk type base? Or does it fade the same as it does in the full juice?

Oh and I'm diggin the Peach Danish!!:):vapor:
The lemon does fade a bit. It's such a light flavoring, very delicate to start with. Glad to hear about the Peach Danish. The Peach cobbler is even better, or so Jo tells me. Her ADV is the Peach Cobbler. :D :toast:
