Clomped through my 6 miles elliptical at 6 and 5 today, hey, it's Sunday. Felt good. Hubby got me a fitbit for my birthday (because I asked for one that is, lol) It really does help inspire you and keep you moving.

so will a cattle prod hanging on a bracket behind you

Scale this morning said: 137.6

I've been thinking about where I want to be on the scale. I think about 130 will be a good place to start maintenance mode. Right now I am concentrating on weight loss. 6 miles on the elliptical seems to work well for that. After I get the "goal" reached, I will cut back to 4 to maintain.

Goal today: 6 miles and the usual... Planks, lunges w/ weights.

Did 4 earlier today, just got done with another 4. :)

All those helpful, kind people thinking that food and sweets are just the perfect thank you for a job well done. :sneaky: I remember those days... Ugh It's like walking a mine field blindfolded. Yeah, I probably started this at the wrong time of year

Today's goal: Take the day off. Hips were killing me while trying to sleep. They need a break.... that's my story and I'm sticking to it :p

Will get some planks in though, those are easy on joints and I can do them when I think about it.

Are your hips better today Robin?

I did my 4 elliptical miles last night, but I put the ramp back down to the lowest setting. Knees are a little sore today but not bad.

Hips are fine today :)
Leg muscles are still tight though LOL
I know when I overdo things... dancing, walking etc... my hips will bother me for a bit. I have gotten used to this. A minor irritation and worth the price to keep doing what I want to do. I just know to let them rest for a day after. Better to use them than lose the ability.

I am downloading a program that Rick uses. It's called Diet Power. I'm going to try it out. :)

Bridget, have you ever tried taking Triple Omega? It's a Nature Made product. I need to start taking that again. It really seems to help my joints. Contains fish, flaxseed, safflower and olive oils. I don't get a fishy aftertaste from this stuff. Seems to work.

Didn't really workout much lately, but have been doing lunges while waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven. Standing round the kitchen so much is killing my feet and I thought standing round teaching was bad. At least I got to walk across campus to from the staffroom to the classroom a couple times a day plus climb stairs.

Get a thick spongy mat to put in front of the sink and stove. It does help. Also wear sneakers. Bare feet and hard surfaces don't play well together as you age.

Now that's a good idea! I have thick spongy flip-flops for inside and around the house. It's usually customary to take your shoes off when entering a house here, so I did a lot of walking around barefoot on hard wooden floors while inside. That's also why I chose cycling over running, my feet can't take the pounding any more.

Since you mentioned hip pain, Robin, have you ever heard of trigger point massage therapy? It's something you can do yourself, or go to a massage therapist who is trained in it. I've been doing it for 2 years now. I had a wicked shoulder injury that I was able to get through without surgery, or even going to the doctor. I also use it for my hips because of pain that keeps me up at night. Also my neck and shoulders where I carry all of my stress. It's amazing how much it has helped!

Basically, trigger points are knots deep within your muscle tissue that cause chronic pain and inflammation. They can be released with massage. It needs to be done consistently over a period of time, but there is often instant pain relief. The person who developed it has helped a lot of people avoid back surgery, and relieved pain for people who had surgery and still had no relief.

There's an app called "TriggerPoints" and a great workbook about it:

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief - Kindle edition by Clair Davies, Amber Davies, David G. Simons. Health, Fitness & Dieting Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.
