About 6 years ago, I weighed 210 pounds. I'm 5'10". I decided I was tired of being fat. So I started working out and changing my eating habits.

Over a period of about 18 months or so, I lost approx 50 pounds. One time, I actually tipped the scales at 159. But I found that I had to work out like a complete mad man and eat like a bird to do that.

Somewhere around 165 - 170 is a good weight for me. I maintained about 167 for a long time.

In the past year, I've gotten really busy at work and in my personal life. Lots of traveling for work and long hours in the office. Plus I bought some land that I'm working on clearing, and that ate up most of my free time. Those weekends I was doing "two-a-days" in the gym are now spent on a tractor or backhoe at my property.

And, worst of all, I got lazy and cocky with my eating habits. And it's really hard to eat right when I'm traveling.

So, I'm up to about 175 now, and I'm determined to get back to 165 - 170. I'm getting back to regular exercise and being more careful with my eating. I'm determined that I will never be fat again. Ever!

I know what you mean. I am determined also. It is amazing how hard it is to get rid of just a few pounds as I age. It seems as though the body doesn't want to let go of those extra few.

You will find that your weight will hit plateaus. You will work out for a while and not lose anything. Then it will start falling off. Then it will stop again. And then it will start coming off again.

It's weird, but that's how it happens for me. And a lot of other people I know have experienced the same thing.

It's easy to get discouraged during those plateaus because you're still working hard, but nothing is happening.

It doesn't feel like it sometimes. For the first time in my life, I'm actually thinking about retirement. I'm just tired of slugging it out every day, but I'm afraid I would be bored soon if I retired. Maybe another 2 - 3 years of working, and then I'm done. The good Lord willing, of course.

Believe it or not, I once weighed 265 lbs. the 235 I weighed last December was not my fattest.

GT, I saw the pics you posted on the mug shots thread. It has been an amazing transformation for you. Great job!

I would say you are now sexy, but I don't swing that way. So I'll just say you look good. For a guy. . . or a chimp. :D

Me too. I went from 245 and a 44" waist to 195 and a 38" waist, simply by changing my diet and eating habits. My triglycerides went from 450 (the reason for the change) to 167 (first year) to 148 (second year).

As people would comment on the weight loss, my reply was "women don't like fat old men, but they might like skinny old men". ;)

Happy Fit Sunday... BK a day at work with you would kill me... Ugh!

Just got home from my hot yoga. Held that stupid side plank for the full count on both sides. One day that better become easy.

Working on meal planning for the week, digging up old recipes. Trying to keep the meals healthy. Roasting some acorn squash.

I avoid the scale at all costs. Had a pretty bad eating disorder in my early 30's and never want to feel like that again (at 5'6" I was trying to maintain 108 pounds, not healthy). Today I embrace my curves. But stay busy enough so the curves don't turn into bulges.

I unintentionally had that weight. Stress with ex (I lose my appetite when stressed that much) and then gallbladder almost right after the divorce was final. I put two and two together that every time I ate....PAIN! 5/6" here also. That is waaaay too skinny for that height. Even with small frames.

I don't mind the curves, I do mind the muffin top LOL. More like a mini-muffin though

Hi Rick! :) I'm glad you found this thread. Stick around and give pointers on what changes you made.

Hi Robin.

I changed EVERYTHING!

Before, breakfast was a Micky D's breakfast sandwich (or 2). Lunch was whatever fast food joint I happened to be near. Dinner was spaghetti, lasagna or something else equally fattening. Between meals was lot's of candy, pastry, etc.

I researched how to naturally lower cholesterol and found that beans, bran and oats would help. So after, breakfast is now a cup of yogurt and a homemade whole wheat bran muffin. The bran keeps me satisfied for several hours. In the afternoon I snack on homemade granola (found a really good recipe) and mixed nuts.

For supper I eat a lot of 15 bean soup (soak overnight in the fridge, rinse and replace the water, add 1 slice of diced ham, 1 chopped onion, lot's of fresh garlic (I use the whole thing, chopped), salt and pepper and crockpot on high all day (at least 10 hours). It freezes well and I get 7 meals from the one crockpot. I also add some cornbread to it.

The rest of the time it's fish, chicken or maybe some homemade pork chili. I try to stay away from most packaged foods.

A while back I decided to treat myself to some chocolate covered almonds. It's been downhill since then and I've added back 6-8 pounds. It's amazing how such a seemingly small amount of sugar can add so much weight so quickly. With the family Christmas get together coming up (LOT'S of sweets involved) I'm not going to worry about it until the first of the year.

Got my 3 mi run/1 mi walk in this morning (brrr it was cold!) , and followed that with a cleaning frenzy to get ready for the workweek. Vacuum and mopped the whole house, cleaned the boys' bathroom, and just finished sweeping and straightening the garage. Oh, and 5-6 loads of laundry. Vape break! Going to vac my car before I put the sweeper away.

Pizza at the in-laws tonight while the kids decorate her tree. I haven't eaten badly today but completely blew it at dinner last night.

Rick- hope you'll stick around and share that bran muffin recipe. I eat eggs most days to keep the hunger at bay, and usually almonds or pistachios mid-morning.

Here ya go.

1 1/2 Cup oat bran (cereal)
1 1/2 Cup Whole wheat flour
2 Cup Applesauce (unsweetened)
1/2 Cup Dark brown sugar (packed and slightly rounded)
1/2 Cup honey (more or less)
2 Eggs
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp Baking soda
2 tbls veg oil
1 tbls Vanilla
1 tbls cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/2-1 cup raisins (if so desired-I never do)

Mix well. Put into 2 cupcake pans. (use cupcake liners-makes 12 muffins)
Bake @ 400 for 18 minutes

They freeze well and are much better if eaten warm (from the freezer, nuke for about 40 seconds).

My downfall is salty foods. Chips, pretzels, nuts. I don't add salt other than when I cook. Man it gets tough staying away from everything :D

At least the nuts are good for you. The snack makers on the other hand are like BT in that they add things to make you eat more. Remember the Lays ad "bet you can't eat just one"? There was science behind that statement.

Recipe copied and printed out! They sound good

Yeah, I have to avoid the chip aisle at the grocery store...or any store for that matter. If I see them, I soooo want them.
I have pistachios and almonds in the cupboard and just take a small amount to snack on.

A "small amount" of pistachios is equivalent to self-torture.
