The Health Nut Thread

YAY! So glad I could be useful in my obsessiveness about my own weight loss. I lost a total of about 66 pounds and I've maintained within a 4 pound range for 1.5 months now. In some ways for me, maintaining is harder. I knew how to lose, but maintaining while not losing or gaining and eating healthy is harder for me. I'm all about protein right now...trying to gain some muscle in targeted areas such as arms and stomach. I use protein bars and shakes and eat lots of eggs and meats. I've been too relaxed on the exercise and with a lot going on lately. I've been running on the treadmill only 3 times a week. I'm going to increase that and shoot for 5 times a week. I want to be able to run 5Ks the entire way. I can easily run two miles. Just need to git 'r dun! I feel sometimes that I was burned out from 9 months of it as my journey began in March. My coworkers and I are also gonna start walking two miles at lunch again in the new year.

CONGRATS on all the great work y'all have been doing!!!

I may start documenting my 3.1 mile run times here...when I get around to it.

Ok, so I had this idea for a thread to encourage us to get healthy. I really wish I had thought of this for RJ :(

I'm not exactly sure if this will fly. I can always delete if people don't think it is a good idea. I guess what got me thinking about it is when Bridget said she did 4 miles the other morning and got it out of the way, I started thinking "I can do that!". So I proceeded to do 4 miles yesterday morning.

Yeah, there is a competitive streak in me  Hubby is not giving me that competition that drives me to keep going.

I am not sure what I want this thread to become or it can be just posting what you have done, how you do it, what your goals are. I absolutely want it to be encouraging for each of us.

RJ, you have been my inspiration to get into shape. My god, what you have accomplished is truly amazing.

Pretty much anything healthy goes here. OR not. This is for all of us. We have quit smoking and now are thinking about our health in a truly realistic way.

So..... what do you think? Yay? or Nay? If you think it is a bad idea, please let me know. It will not hurt my feelings in the least. ;)

And I forgot to mention that for a while now I've been doing 4 sets of 15 reps of about five different arm exercises with 8 pound weights. It kills me but I need more muscle in the arms. I do as many situps and pushups as I can muster. I'll also hold planks until I collapse, then do a couple more. That combined with the treadmill is finally showing some results.

guess holding them is better than walking them ;)

must be the Pirates Booty......

I also went to every doctor checkup I could this year as I hadn't gone in over seven years. I found new doctors I love which is important to me. Regular checkups (several), mammo, female checkups, colonoscopy. The year of health for me I guess. I was put on medication for a problem (hence the colonoscopy) that made my hair start falling out so I'm trying to ween myself from that now. I take a daily vitamin in addition to hair/skin/nails vitamins three times a day. I eat clean...no junk. I ate baklava at my friend's party the other night and it made me so sick the next day. I try to stay away from sugar. I went though my fridge and pantry and gave all the junk to my Mom (LOL). I drink so much water I float through my day. What else? I guess that's it for now...until I remember something else.

:)

RJ!! I was hoping you would show up here! :D

ROFL @BK

The diet program is finally getting it. I have consistently been going under what the caloric intake is allowing yet still eating a crap load of "good" foods, with a side bit of not quite healthy. The program also logs the exercise that you input and adds the calories burned to calories that you have available for the day. It also 'banks' leftover calories not used.

Weight: 138.2 *same as yesterday*
Calories budgeted for today: 1270
Metabolic Rate: 1615. Down from 1662

Goal: 5 miles

Headed to the track soon. It's 43 degrees with 11mph wind and cloudy. I washed my under armour yesterday so I could use it again today.

I may completely ignore the scale until after the New Year. Robin you did pick the toughest time of year to start this!

RJ- I need to go to the gyn soon. I can't remember when I went last. A few years I think. I hate that appointment.

I guess we are helping each other get healthy :)
Can you 'fix', whatever the meds are fixing, with what you eat instead? ACK! your beautiful hair! I know some meds really do need to be taken but the thought of side affects just scare the bejesus out of me.

Unfortunately, pills are prescribed for one thing, then you need meds to fix what the first pills screw up. Pretty soon a person is taking 15+ pills per day. The longer I can prolong taking anything...

This program that I am using is tracking EVERYTHING I intake. I have been drinking a boat load of water too! It tells me when I am low and how much I need to get me back up to where I should be. That's a good thing. I know I didn't drink near enough that I needed to.

I feel like I am maintaining my weight right now Hahahaha.
What is surprising to me is the amount of food I am able to eat and not gain. Points are given for each food. Better foods have higher points. Not so good foods have lower or negative values.

Learning a lot here :)

Just think, after the holidays... it will be a BREEZE!!! :D

I was having issues there too Bridget so I was forced to go really. Had a biopsy and all the other stuff done. I've been deemed pretty dang healthy by all doctors. I waited over 7 years for checkups...too long.

Now you know you are healthy and ready for the world! The unknown adds stress and we all know what stress does to our bodies and minds. I am seriously happy that you took the bull by the horns and got it done. Now you can go forth and conquer anything... as you are proving to yourself!

It was a chronic problem that needed correcting. I'm also against medications but this time I took the doctor's advice. I will be talking to my doctor soon about possible replacements to this medication. I'm still not convinced it could just be a normal Fall hair shed but I've lost a lot of hair lately. I still have some though but I am definitely concerned. This was me yesterday so you can see I still have hair (so far)...and yes old ladies can take selfies too! ;)

Love the selfie! :D
I get cysts in my breasts, caffeine caused it. I had an amazing woman doctor a long time ago and she told me to cut my caffeine to just the morning and to take vitamin e. It worked. Then they came out with the warning to not take so much vitamin e. So I stopped. I haven't had any issues until recently. I have not upped my caffeine intake so it is probably another stage my body is going through. Yes it is being watched/monitored but I have started taking vitamin e again in small doses and the soreness is going away.

RJ you're so gorgeous! (and SO skinny!) :)

Chimp.we need to get smart here and plan out what nursing home we're going to end up in...Some of these beautiful "old ladies" they are already calling themselves need to plan out too. Personally, I'm hitting up Robin's and RJ's family and finding out where they are going. I'm a sucker for the really pretty "old ladies. ;)

If we all ended up in the same one..we'd get booted though I'm sure..Bwaahahaha
