I didn't have kids, but I worked in my family's flower shop for about 15 years.
Homecoming/October
Christmas Dances/December (clearly)...some in Jan. if venues are hard to book.
Valentine's Day or Sweetheart Dances/Feb. - not always formal
Proms/May

...I think that covers the major formals, not everywhere will have formals for all of those though.
Yes, they're REALLY tiny dresses these days.
