I love iMessage. Half the time my phone is in my bag and I get all the important texts right in my lap.

I have a CapTel phone but tend to avoid it Before the iPad it was mostly e-mail

Hmmmm, I guess unless the other person knew ASL it might be difficult. The picture is decent, but it can lose the connection from time to time. It probably would be too much work to write notes back and forth while watching the screen.
But you'd get to see each other.

Maybe take one of the local classes like I teach sometime, you can learn enough to have a brief conversation
