Just a quick check in while BF is napping and Princess is busy fighting with her socks again.
We're having a good time. Just waiting on the twins to come by so we can go out for a while. College boy had to go attend to some of his animals in the research lab. He works with rats, mice, and chickens...who knew chickens suffer from depression...well apparently they do!

Sure they do, I would bet that all animals have feelings.
I've heard that chickens are quite interesting and each have unique personalities.

Have my laundry going again, just the loads that are in and I'm all done.
I texted with my friend in Whiteville, NC this a.m.
Guess they had strong storms, rain and wind.
They're without power and may be for awhile.
There is a tree down on their street that took out power lines, but she was also told that their power substation is underwater, and the creek or river that's flooding won't crest until Tues.
...AND, she said she feels like she's getting sick.
She also said that her daughter's school had received quite a bit of damage so they're not going to be able to open back up right away either.

I just heard from her, she said she cleaned out the fridge/freezer and she and their daughter are heading to her parents in Charlotte.
Her husband is the fire chief there and he's working just about around the clock, he told them to *go*.
I think there are a lot of areas that got hit very hard, at least what I saw this morning.

Well...it's kinda of his job...he retired from Charlotte, and before they moved to Whiteville, he'd been doing this since high school.
Emergency personnel/emergency responders live for this sort of stuff...I don't mean that in a bad way, but in the sense that this is what they're trained to do, and they really don't mind when called to serve.

I read an article on the fires.
It didn't say what caused the initial fire to start, but that because of the high sustained winds (during the storm), they're not allowed to take the ladder trucks out.
It said the sustained winds were 55-60 mph, with gust up to 70.
A battalion chief responded to make sure no one was inside, then at some point, the national guard took the firemen to the scene in National Guard vehicles.
This happened overnight last night.
The area was a mandatory evacuation area.
The statement from the fire dept or city said that while they were all frustrated not to be able to take the trucks, that people just have to understand there are times that due to extreme (weather) circumstances, they cannot use all their normal fire fighting tools.
They had to just attach their fire hoses directly to the fire hydrants.
I guess they're being criticized for not taking the fire trucks.
But, there's just only so much they can do, and only so much that can be asked of them. (just my opinion)
If the weather is such that it's not safe for man nor beast, people have to understand that "things", and homes and building can be replaced. People can't.
I understand them not taking the trucks, if a tree fell on it, or something else rendered it unusable, that's not going to help protect anyone after the storm passes.

...oh, the wind carried burning debris across the street, from the original building that was on fire, and that was what caught the other structures on fire.
