Awwww what a sweet picture. Hope that they had a nice time, all things considered.

Waiting for the boys to get home from soccer and then heading to mom’s to start our canning.

Besides chili, sauce and salsa any other ideas how we can use tomatoes? We have 5 jars left from when we canned in 2017  color is still good and seals aren’t broken or rusted. We’ve been eating them with no issue but clearly not fast enough. Lol

Good morning Dale and Joey

Gosh those breakfast choices look really good this morning. Mm. Great quotes too!! Thank you.

Step dad cans the old fashioned way. Water bath canner with Ball jars, lids and rings. Dh just got the “electric” water bath canner for his birthday. Not a fun gift but it’s what he wanted.
image.jpg He was doing a smaller version of the standard water bath and wanted something more convenient for the salsa and pickles. We haven’t used it yet.

I wondered about the food savers and if they were worth it. But I’m concerned about the plastic waste. I haven’t really researched them to know the ins/outs.

Good morning/afternoon really, Fran

This was only my second time “canning” I use that term loosely because I was quartering tomatoes and filling jars. Lol. Started at 1:30 and finished about 6:15. Tiring and hot. We usually go halfsies. So we brought home 24 jars and those last...well, beyond 3 years.

Dale, definitely give us the scoop on the food saver. I would be interested also to learn more about them.

I have a Food Saver brand and buy off brand bags from amazon. What machine you buy really just depends on what you want it to do. Some have the ability to seal things other than bags, not something I require although my machine does have an attachment to do so. I generally buy mid-range , not the cheapest nor the most expensive.
My machine also has the ability to hold a roll inside for making your own bags whatever size you need, I don’t use it much but it’s a nice feature.
